I finally bought some spirulina awhile back that I add to the food when there are babies in the tank. It’s easier for them to get to and digest and it’s helped more babies to survive.
@@SeaMonkeyDudeJon : Same. I feel slightly disloyal but it does work well for the newborns. And you pretty much have to supplement your brand food with something else due to the sheer volume. I’d love it if Yolanda would release a new packet of baby food. People would “eat that up.” 🤣🤣🤣
@@gulliblesbabbles that's exactly how I feel. But I'm also caring for living animals and want to do the best I can for them. This mix of spirulina and Sea-Monkey food is working really well. I'd love to see a new food from Transcience! You seem to be connected with the right people to push that along. ;-) I get it though. There are two main customer types for the Sea-Monkey brand; kids (or parents/grandparents) and the serious hobbyists. I'm willing to bet that the hobbyists account for ~1% of sales is all. They need to market to the kids and parents and make products that appeal to them. I totally get it.
You might consider Astaxanthin Powder added once a week to the tank to increase Baby survival rate and also add a hint of red color to the shrimp. This powder is even finer than the green and does not tend to settle on the tank floor over time, generally staying suspended in the water current, and thus is easier for the babies to feed upon as they develop into adulthood, when the use of green Spirulina Powder is still a good option.
I use all 5 food types (including the plasma). I rotate through each type each week. I dump out the packets and put them in plastic containers. I usually leave the empty packet in the containers so I know which one is which. I've had pretty good luck with that setup.
Very cool! I put the specialty foods into tiny plastic canisters. They work really well! You can see them here: ua-cam.com/video/Dc72Snco_zw/v-deo.html
This is a couple years old. At the time, I was using equal parts. Now I'm using SM brand foods and live phytoplankton (liquid) mostly. I rarely use the powdered spirulina anymore.
I do big feedings twice a week and use about 12 scoops. I usually feed 2-3 scoops of powdered food on other days. I adjust based on how cloudy the water looks.
@@travisjohnson6358 I've heard people say that too. My opinion is that is inaccurate though. I have several colonies in glass containers now, including a large vodka bottle. Also, the Sea-Monkey brand has official sets made of glass: Sea-Monkeys Executive Super-Sized Suite and Sea-Monkeys Super Set. I have both of these and they do incredibly well.
I usually use Sea-Monkey brand packets. Each set of #1 & #2 is good for 12oz of water. There are lots of different marine salts on the market too. Each one will have it's own directions on how much to mix with water.
use sea salt (dont use salt that has any additives like iodine or anticaking agent!!!) make sure the ppt is the same as your sea monkeys aquarium and the ph should be 8 (use epsom salt!)
so glad the big tank made a successful come back.

Definitely. I feel like I should be using Sea-Monkey brand everything but this simply works better for the babies.

Clearly, the Sea-Monkey's bake loaves of banana bread with the banana treat.
Haha. Wouldn't that be something?
hahaha

Great info! But, are you using equal amounts of the Sea Monkey Growth Food and the Spirulina or some other ratio? Thanks!

How many scoops you have to put in the big aquarium each time? Looking great

If my colony keeps thriving the way it is I'll have to get me a few more pouches of food
What if you put the seamonkeys brand food in a blender at high speeds it may make it finer for the babies?
Would seamonkeys be OK in a 1l jack daniels bottle?
Should be. Make sure to clean the bottle really well with hot water and without soap.
@@SeaMonkeyDudeJon it's made out of glass I've herd other people say not to use glass because it won't stay at a stable temperature

Please help me!! I’m trying to transfer my sea monkeys into a tank but what am I supposed to do about the water? Do you have a water recipe?

Are the ones swimming on top of each other mating ? Lol , it’s just so casual . 🤣
Yep! That's what they're doing. I didn't put a cheap motel in there for them.

@@100poundsdownandcounting3 yeah. These guys will mate like crazy if they like their environment.
