- New Jersey Transit - Conrail Heritage Unit Debut Weekend
After making its first public appearance on the Conrail Shared Assets Holiday Train the previous weekend, New Jersey Transit's Conrail Heritage Unit, GP40PH-2B NJTR 4208 (ex-CR 3191, née-Penn Central 3191, EMD, GP40, 10/1968) was assigned to make Port Jervis Line trips over the weekend. On Sunday, December 29, 2024, it led Train 71 with MNCW 4906 (GP40PH-2). The train is seen passing through the Black Rock Cut in Port Jervis, New York with the remnants of some recent snowfall still visible in spite of the drizzling rain. Service to Port Jervis is operated under agreement with MTA Metro-North Railroad. From 1976-1983, Conrail operated all of the passenger rail commuter service for what is today both New Jersey Transit and MTA Metro-North Railroad, making this an appropriate place for a revenue debut.
