UA-cam recommended "drummer hears enter sandman for the first time"...not understanding how this was even possible I clicked thinking it would be a fun forgettable 6 minutes. It's been 2 days with no sleep and I can barely remember what life was like before Snarky Puppy.
Yep, all of the Snarky drummers are unbelievable. This is Sput Searight playing here, and they also rotate Larnell Lewis and Jason "JT" Thomas in and out depending on who is available at the time. All of them are great.
Jose Vazquez Use that jazz tuned ear to listen to ALL music. My son is a drummer who makes his living banging out pop covers, but his passion is Jazz and he'll often slip in a riff or two into some "standard", just to keep his hand in.
Yep, there's no denying that Cory's solo in the live studio recording was nothing but otherworldly, but Mark absolutely owns this thing, too! It's so cool to hear this solo section on a different instrument.
It's a percussion section. 1 dude on the traps & the other creating a rhythmic sound that's solid.. Indonesia? Sorry to say , across the pond anywhere but this country ( USA) so many still live a modest & mysterious lifestyle..
You know it's really good to see a group of young and very talented musicians tearing it up. I now feel more comfortable about the future of music. Keep it up fellows and get back to Charlotte, NC asap.
I miss these gentlemen so much. Mikey and the gang, honored to know ya and can’t wait until the shows are rolling again and we’re back at San Francisco Jazz Center. Missing you and all the world of live music, lucky to live and have these concerts to revisit.
WELL, THIS BAND MUSIC ENTERS INTO THE FUNK, JAZZ, BLUES AND ROCK CATEGORY, THAT MIX IT IS KNOWN AS F U S I O N........GREW UP WITH IT AND IT WILL NEVER DIE.....
It's so unbeliveable how they manage to play with such a confidence, strenght, and love for the music. It seems that the crowd didn't get what is going on in front of them. I would scream my throat out out there...
Tom Floor I agree. But this is so much more than 'just' a jazz, wouldn't you say? Ok, let me put it this way, thay didn't applaude much and yell 'bravo' neither. :-) Anyway I would be a fan with the worse manners at their concert, I couldn't help it.

I'd heard most of these tracks before today, and was so excited to hear these live takes, but then Flood just smacked me in the face with how gorgeous and groovy it is. What a treat.

I cannot get enough of this. I've been listening to it about 2 times a day since I discovered it about 4 days ago. I'll call out the guitar solo trading starting around 6:30. At one point the drummer can be seen with a huge grin. I think he may have been enjoying it more than anyone else. Typically not a fan of guitar wank-offs; I think it is fair to say this is anything but. Also at 59:10 when the rhythm section modulates tempo is just masterful. These guys have achieved a level of musical mastery hitherto unknown.
Right, some great stuff. As long as it's not just technical masturbation. Love the Van Halen t-shirt and the Jaco ending "shave and haircut". The piano right after cool too. Having two guitarist seems right here ;>
I agree with all that! He gets weird enough to stray from the straight 16th note or 32nd “watch how much metronome I have played to” a lot of guitarists fall into. I’m only about 15 min, so now you’ve got me primed for 59:10. Much love to other Snarky Puppy fans. These guys inspire me all the time.
34:30 if you wanna hear a bass solo that's fun to listen to, without any showing off, fiddling or shredding. just a nice bass solo. makes a great intro to the amazing song that follows!

Glad that fusion is alive and moving forward. The old generation are nearly all gone. Glad the young dudes are doing much more than just a nostalgia trip.
There are so many influences you can hear. Allow me to direct your attention to King Crimson's "Red". Not that I have any problem with that. In opposite I enjoy every reminescence I discover. Absolutely fabulous. Saw them this summer at Womad festival here in England. They are new favourite band. Accessible, groovy, virtuosic, melodic, funky Jazz at it's best.
I can't get over the part at 56:43 where Sput drops a stick, catches it mid-fall, and continues to play, all while not taking one step out of the pocket.
He didn't drop the stick , he had a towel on his left knee and it was slowly slipping off , he tried to catch it before it hits the ground but he didn't :) , still amazing for doing all of that without missing a beat !!!
My favorite classical composer is Bach. His melodic/lyrical writing makes him special to me. If i could some how bring JSB to 2022, once i got him to stop hyperventilating about...well...everything, for obvious reasons, id put a very good set of headphones on him. Id play Awaken by Yes first, the opening will give him a little familiarity. As soon as Awaken is done, we'd take a snarky trip down the rabbit hole. I hope 100 years from now these guys are given the God Tier recognition they deserve. Its criminal how often i have explain what they are. They should be a household name!

Fabulous! I was going to single out the guitar playing for "wow," but I can't. The entire sound - all of it- EVERYTHING is musical genius~ Thank you! I'm so glad I found you. Late to the party, but who cares! I'm here now!!!! Mind blown, thanks to the incredible sound that is Snarky Puppy.
I accidentally found them on UA-cam. The guy on the bongos is one half of the founders of Ghost-Note. And it was through him that a stumbled on this beautiful awsome band. Lingus is my favourite
I'm gonna say that to my partner. Anywayyy... I saw the band Bokanté in Gothenburg summer 2018, the band includes Michael, Chris McQueen and Bob Lanzetti from Snarky Puppy. From what I experienced then, all members were at different points in the concert blown away by what their fellow musicians came up with. Ace concert! Also saw Ghost-Note which includes drummer "Sput" and Nate Werth from SP, also in Gothenburg and also very funky and totally Ace.
a cross between return to forever and average white band without vocals my first time hearing them hope they tour the dirty south good to hear a Band actually playing instruments
I think I first heard Celebrity the other week at the Historic Scoot Inn...I think it was the same interesting timing, clap, bass line, scat with crowd, etc that totally grabbed me. LOVE this band!!! So fantastic! (:
It’s 2021 and I’ve found Snarky Puppy. I feel I’ve been living in a freezer all these years
Same feeling
You're late to the party man!
Very impressed, the one dude just got his own sig PRS
I just found them too

Apology for the audio quality....
we are remixing the audio, and we will reupload the video w/ the new audio very soon...
That's really cool. Thanks a lot.
awesome i was sitting here wondering how in gods name was this the only thing not recorded in HD in the last 3 years ha.....
karl murphy It was produced in HD... it was intentionally not uploaded in HD... we have our reasons...
JavaJazzFest which are?
Are you any nearer re-uploading the new version with HD sound?
Can't WAIT to see/hear it!!
So nice that the percussionist is good and loud in this mix. That dude is slaying all over the place
I was thinking the same. I love his playing, and he is way more up front in this mix than other SP stuff I can find.
Yep, all of the Snarky drummers are unbelievable. This is Sput Searight playing here, and they also rotate Larnell Lewis and Jason "JT" Thomas in and out depending on who is available at the time. All of them are great.

I wonder if Eric Moore ever plays for them. that would be a wonderful gig.
@@jawshoowa эы
@@gustafsone I think he was talking about Nate Werth. He's always so locked in with the drummers!
I love how their audience was universally able to sing in time appropriately while the band was playing in 7

@@gustafsone Cory's Lingus solo it's one of the best things I ever heard in my life... UNMATCHED!
i completely agree, but that empty space at the outro of the solo hurt my feelings :,(
Agreed but how do we explain to him that a Van Halen shirt is not particularly cool? Not the first show in which he wears one> Meant to be ironic?
@@David-iv6je Maybe he likes them, so he wears the shirt. He's great, so that works for me. :)
The drummer really drives the whole performance. They're all exceptional musicians, but the drummer is the engine behind it all here.
always. Without a good drummer, it's not the same gig.
It's a percussion section. 1 dude on the traps & the other creating a rhythmic sound that's solid.. Indonesia? Sorry to say , across the pond anywhere but this country ( USA) so many still live a modest & mysterious lifestyle..
No money to be made here anymore.. skinny social media retards that support a retarded corrupt government.. pos.
Totally. Noting the percussionist as an essential part of the drum sound.
How refreshing to see and hear fusion being played by youthful musicians. What a talented and tight band.

Its a cultural thing. American audiences are really the only ones that get rowdy when they really dig something.
Matt Wiles You clearly haven't been to Portugal.
Sérgio Castro
clearly not... For some reason, every artist falls in love with Portuguese crowds
Matt Wiles DC area crowds suck, for the most part, so it must be a regional thing.

Mark's solo in the beginning of Flood is amazing.
51:52 is soooo gooood
51:04 onwards reminds me of The Fearless Flyers' Swampers, which is funny since Mark went on to record it 4 or 5 years later, haha
