My dad wasn't an accomplished Harp Player like Don but he was very talented. He could play all of the standard tunes he grew up with in the 30's and 40's on a 10 hole harp and he also played a chromatic harp. My brother also plays but not on dad's level and I never got past the song "My Old Kentucky Home". Camcorders and UA-cam came along too late for my dad or I would post some of him playing for me and my friends around the kitchen table when we were kids. You would have liked it. He was fun.
I think I'm the only one who's commented in like 5 years 😆, only harmonica players have respect for this dude's endurance, definitely not something you do for fun that's for sure.
I had the pleasure of working with Don on a number of occasions in Cork and Dublin back in the late 90's early 00's. Absolute gentleman to work with and a gent off the stage too. Great musician.
Dan O'Riordan did you go with him to Canada, Liam asked me to come along. I could not get my passport in time so I missed out. I worked in the Sheling in Dublin.
Brought my 19 year old son to see him. Quite disappointing on guitar. He's no blues guitar legend. He tells a good story in fairness. Doubt some of them would pass a polygraph. 10 out of 10 for neck though.
wow i love him ....we had met in the (name of the father) i mean i watched him there then i started to know more about him he is great as an actor and good in music too so talented
Thank you Don for your tutorial video which was a Xmas present from my son in 1995 (mine was on vhs video cassette), I had always been a mouthorgan player but had never learned to play the blues - six weeks later, I was up there with a band jamming!! Still playing check out "The Old Buzzard Blues Band" version of the Doors classic Roadhouse Blues. Live Long and Prosper!!!
Opinions are like arseholes.......we all have one. Yours is as valid as anybody's. What is important though is to respect the opinions of others. Little Walter is fantastic and Don Baker is too. Two different people who should not be compared as there is no competition! this is not X-Factor!
@astraboy100 Totally agree with ye pal hate these trolls who think they know it all to the trolls I say if it's that easy post your video of you playing the Harmonica n we'll see how good you are!!! Fuckin eejits man :-P !!
@Gus Barber any chance ye can post up Been alone too long? Another crackin tune by Don,I can't find it anywhere on utube,I have it on me iTunesv but I don't know how to upload it or even if it can be done.. Lol.... Go raíbh míle mhaith agat mo chara :))
Check out Magic Dick from the J Geils band. The song Whammer Jammer let's Dick really pour it on with some rocking boogie woogie harp licks. I like Don too. They are both great musicians.
Sorry People - I gotta Disagree, This guy Is Gooood ! - But ask HIM if he thinks he could take on Charlie McCoy in his Hey Day - I think not - as good as he is I think some people have him beat...
I seriously believe the harp he his performing with has had some very creative tuning performed on it.... Very impressive playing but can the same thing be played with a just purchased brand new 10 hole diatonic harp???
I have not heard much of Don's playing, probably about a dozen songs. I feel that technically sure, he can play a harmonica. Sure he can play fast, but from what I've heard and seen he lacks the charisma that some of the old blues musicians had. Namely Sonny Terry and Sonny Boy Williamson. Anyone, given enough time, can whoop and blow quickly on a harmonica, it takes charisma heart and soul to truely fall in with the harmonica greats.
I listen to everything with a bit of charisma and soul, and I don't enjoy his harp playing. All I'm saying, not to say others don't. No one's perfect, and true, no need to worry what anyone thinks if you truly love what you play it doesn't matter. Doesn't mean I like it. And very true that a unique interpretation of any form of art is what truly makes the artist. Doesn't necessarily make them comparable to any great of the art form however.

Don is amazing .He puts 100% into whatever he does . From music to acting .
Don has played from Chicago to New Orleans and can play with the best if not better in his true blues . That's why he is such a great musician .
Brought my 19 year old son to see him. Quite disappointing on guitar. He's no blues guitar legend. He tells a good story in fairness. Doubt some of them would pass a polygraph. 10 out of 10 for neck though.

i see nothing incredible about positive power, below average singing and playing the same high note nearly the whole way through the song.
No Sonny terry is the best
well that was annoying.
