1- Black Star Oblivion 2- Ashes In The Sky 3- Crazy Doctor 4- SDI 5- Soldier Of Fortune 6- Red Light Shooter 7- Running For Cover 8- Like Hell 9- No Way Out 10- Get Away
Can't wait to check this one out. One of my favorites. My list: 10. Angel Dust 9. Esper 8. Speed 7. Who Knows 6. Get Away 5. Lonely Player 4. Dream Fantasy 3. Black Wall 2. Crazy Doctor 1. In the Mirror
I love this band from their first album! Influences from Rush in the beginning but very heavy! Akira Takasaki is a fantastic guitar player. Disillusion is my favorite album of them. Law of the Devils Land is my all time favorite song. Their last album has also some great songs.
I love Loudness, but that self-titled EZO album is a absolute metal masterpiece that is sadly a underrated classic that never ceases to amaze my ears even to this day.
I think that talking about lesser known bands is fantastic. It's not all about classic and popular. There is a lot of bands from 70's that were not so popular but amazing and they may be better then some bands that we talk about all the time and of course so many new bands that deserve to be mentioned. Great work Pete.
Great topic! I got every Loudness albums and some of the newer ones with the original line-up are AWESOME! Sadly drummer Munetaka died some years ago, but Loudness is still goin on very strong.
This was a band I thought you either probably didn't like or didn't know about (since I hadn't heard you ever mention them). So glad I was wrong! Thanks for doing this one.
Pete, I really enjoy hearing about some of the lesser known bands such as Baker Loo. Unfortunately, there are so many people out there nowadays that have the attitude if they didn’t hear about the band, then they’re not worth checking out. Really enjoy exploring new music. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Keep up the good work and thanks for introducing me to so many new bands that otherwise I would’ve never heard of.
Just getting into these guys! So solid!!! #PetePardoArmy #PetePardoNation #BigMeatPete #SplashYourSeaOfTranquilityAllOverMyFace 1. Black Star Oblivion 2. Soldier of fortune 3. Crazy doctor 4. Running for cover 5. Ashes in the Sky
My top 10: 1. Danger of Love 2. You Shook Me 3. Soldier of Fortune 4. Red Light Shooter 5. Demon Disease 6. Shadow of War/Ashes in the Sky 7. S.D.I 8. Rock This Way 9. This Lonely Heart 10. Crazy Nights
Great to see a review of this fantastic nippon band. They were pretty big in Europe in the Eighties. Akira is one of my favorite guitar players, top 5 for sure. I fell in love with his ESP star guitar back in the day. Reason why a built a replica recently.
wow! didnt expect this one from PETE! one of my favorite all time Metal bands! I got into them back in 85, i was in the Army stationed in Korea, and a friend in the barracks had a cassette of Thunder in the East . I played it so much, i wouldnt give it back! I loved that album. I bought the albums over the years, until the vocalist left. Got back into them past couple years since he rejoined . Great band. Great choice clip for Today! 1) Shadows of War 2) Heavy Chains 3)We Could Be Together 4) You Shook Me 5) This Lonely Heart 6) Clockwork Toy 7) Let It Go 8)Run For Your Life 9) Crazy Nights 10) Dark Desire
Finally Loudness!🤘🏻 I remember heard them first time 1984 in some various artists heavy metal album and the song was "Esper". I was immediatly hooked! What a great band & what a GREAT GUITARIST!! I buyed "Disillusion" and next year that "Thunder in the East", which is absolute masterpiece. I own almost all their records altough those are very difficult to find. I love their newest albums too, "The Sun Will Rise Again" and "Rise to Glory". They played couple of gigs here in Finland: Jalometalli, Oulu 2014 and Tuska Festival, Helsinki 2015 and 2019. They have so many great tracks so very difficult to choose: This time it goes like this: 1) Heavy Chains 2) Clockwork Toy (that guitar solo.......soooo great!) 3) Crazy Doctor 4) Revelation 5) S.D.I. 6) Dark Desire 7) In the Mirror 8) Ashes in the Sky 9) Run for Your Life 10) The Sun Will Rise Again
1. Run For Your Life 2. Ashes In The Sky (Shadows Of War) 3. Never Again 4. One Thousand Eyes 5. Heavy Chains 6. Crazy Nights 7. Dark Desire 8. Howling Rain 9. Rock This Way 10. Find A Way
Out of the Japanese bands my personal favourite were Vow Wow, Kyoji Yamamoto is another guitarist that deserves more recognition with his fast playing style and monster riffs. Loudness kicked ass too, great band
I've only listened to two Loudness albums - big part of my youth though. Some of my favorites: Hurricane Eyes: This Lonely Heart, S.D.I., Strike of the Sword, In This World Beyond Lightning Strikes: Dark Desire, Ashes in the Sky, 1000 Eyes
Really happy when you said We Could Be Together. My #1 too, partially because the first tune of theirs to hear. Then hooked, and on into the Loudness world after (literally living in Japan now too). Yes, Akira is INTENSE. And RIP Munetaka, a real deal monster on the kit. Yamashita killer on bass too. Soldier of Fortune is a great album and Faces in the Fire is one of their all time great tunes. ありがとうPeteさん. Still hoping for a WatchTower album ranking ;)
GREAT POST PETE !!! I remember being stoked on Thunder in the East back in the day, there just really wasn't any metal bands making it to the U.S. then. i'm sure you and others our age remember the Japan Rising Sun clothing and bandanas, etc. that was the fad back in the day as well, lol.
Great 👍 call PETE/ not gonna lie / probably haven’t played LOUDNESS in a quarter of @ Century. It will be a Loudness themed album day on my 58th! You’ve always pumped out a ton of stuff/ lately it’s like you got a stunt double. Lol. Great stuff !!
The two EZO albums (self-titled debut and the follow-up, Fire Fire) are both excellent. Masaki is the best Japanese singer I've heard. He was initially invited the join Loudness as bassist, and later took over lead vocals when Akira re-birthed the band in the early 90s.
Akira Takasaki is not only fast, but he has a cool style and plays amazingly accurately, even live. He is like the Alex Lifeson or Gary Moore of heavy metal shredders. Amazing player!
Also I don't think enough is said about Akira's incredible guitar tone. The guy's tone is magic. I think a lot of that has to do with the player kind of like a George Lynch where you know who was playing once you hear him. Akira is not referred to the Eddie Van Halen of Japan for nothing. A powerhouse guitar player. Lightning Strikes is in my top 25 albums of all time. I love it! Great top 10 list Pete!
Now i understand... pete is on vacation. Gotta do some binge watching on the Weekend to keep up.. 🤣 My list is growing and growing, but i appreciate that... i dont have to care about the lousy TV Programme Thank you Mr Pardo 👍😉
Perhaps (along with Starz) the two most underrated and unknown great hard rocks bands of the 70's and 80;s. 1. The Lines are Down - Thunder in the East - 1985 2. Like Hell - Thunder in the East - 1985 3. Crazy Doctor - Disillusion - 1984 4. Take Me Home - Hurricane Eyes - 1987 5. You Shook Me - Soldier of Fortune - 1989 6. Dark Desire - Lightning Strikes - 1986 7. Dreamer and Screamer - Jealousy - 1988 8. Running For Cover - Soldier of Fortune - 1989 9. Black Star of Oblivion - Lightning Strikes - 1986 10. Speed - The Law of Devil's Land - 1983
Best Japanese band for sure. Also like Vow Wow and EZO a lot:) "This Lonely heart" is probably the number one for me, but also have a soft spot for "Rock this way". A had a dream about Loudness, and in my dream they was performing "Rock this way". Never seen them live unfortunately.
Saw them open for Pete's favorite band, Motley Crue, back in 1985. Thunder in the East had just been released and I was blown away by them. I discovered a few earlier releases in Japanese and those albums are amazing. Oh, and they blew Crue off the stage that night. After Mike Vescera joined and then left, I didn't keep up with them for a long time. I did pick up a couple more recent albums but I really need to revisit those again. But for me, off the top of my head, Speed, Law of Devil's Land, Rock N Roll Crazy Nights, Mr. Yesman, Lonely Player, Heavy Chains, Getaway are some of my favorites by the band.
Kudos Pete for showcasing this awesome band from the Land of Rising Sun! I’m partial to their earlier albums with Disillusion (Japanese release) being my all time fav. Akira in any other name would have been a household name and held in the same regard as EVH. Japan has produced a plethora of great bands that sadly fly under the radar, for example, Vow Vow with the sensational Kyoji Yamamoto on guitars, Earthshaker, Saber Tiger, Sly, Outrage, 44 Magnum and many more. But, if you could showcase Anthem, whom I reckon, to be one of the best and consistent Japanese rock bands out there and still going strong that would be awesome. Their guitarist Akio Shimizu is a monster!
You buy LOUDNESS, you buy heavy metal. Saw them in concert opening for some big band in 1985 or so. 12,000 plus. They reminded me of the Beatles. They all looked alike. Everyone loved them. I had floor tickets. Still remember that “impact” lol
My knowledge of their music pretty much stops in 1990, so my list will Be early stuff. I saw these guys open for Motley Crue on the "Theater Of Pain" tour and they blew Motley off of the stage. 10) "Odin" from Thunder in the East (1985 - 2005 bonus track) 9) "Black Wall" from The Law of Devil's Land (1983) 8) "Faces in the Fire" from Soldier Of Fortune (1989) 7) "Rock the Nation" from Devil Soldier (1982) 6) "Loudness" from The Birthday Eve (1981) 5) "S.D.I." from Hurricane Eyes (1987) 4) "Dream Fantasy" from Disillusion (1984) 3) "Crazy Nights" from Thunder in the East (1985) 2) "Strike Of The Sword" from Hurricane Eyes (1987) 1) "One Thousand Eyes" from Lightning Strikes (1986) Thanks, Pete!
Yes! Nice seeing some recognition for the 1992 self-titled Loudness album with Masaki Yamada on vocals. And don’t forget EZO had two Japanese albums (Senzo And Esa) as Flatbacker before they changed their name to EZO and signed with Geffen, so they had 4 albums in total.
Great List, For Me: 1. Crazy Doctor 2. Heavy Chains 3. S.D.I 4. Crazy Nights 5. In The Mirror 6. Esper 7. Black Star Oblivion 8. Dream Fantasy 9. Get Away 10. Ashes In The Sky
I've only heard one song by Loudness, "Crazy Nights", but I do plan to listen to more. They are a very good group. I also like E-Z-O. I don't know if you've already done this, but have you ever thought about doing a video about doing a video about groups from unlikely countries, like Japan, Portugal or other countries that most people probably wouldn't be aware of. Some bands I know of include Moonspell from Portugal, Chthonic from Taiwan, Tyr from the Faeroe Islands, and Behemoth from Poland.
“Disillusion” is a Top 10 metal Album for me. Staggering record from start to finish. An amazing, legendary band who still bring it to this day. Nothing but the highest respect for Loudness. 🤟
I read about Loudness in Hit Parader, and like you, Pete, bought Thunder in the East then went back and got the predecessors. Live Loud Alive and Disillusion were my favorites. I didn't like Lightning Strikes so much when it came out, but I loved Hurricane Eyes. I didn't care for the Ghetto Machine era, and I really need to go back and listen to their more recent albums. From the ones I know, here's my top 10, not really in order after the top 3: 1. Ares Lament 2. Clockwork Toy 3. Milky Way 4. Shinkiro 5. Lines Are Down 6. Rock'n'Roll Gypsy 7. Angel Dust 8. Ashes in the Sky (Shadows of War) 9. Burning Love (only the live version) 10. Strike of the Sword
Saw them open for Motley Crue on the Theater Of Pain tour and also as a headline act in a small theater here in San Diego. They were amazing!!!! Picked up a few of their newest albums off Amazon. Still shredding. Saw Akira play at both the ESP booth and the Seymour Duncan booth at the NAMM Show a few years back. Super loud. Still doesn't speak much English. Absolutely jammed. Someone asked him what NZO meant from Crazy Nights. He said nothing, it just sounded cool. Hilarious. These guys were all amazing players in their own right. Pick up their early live album. It kills. R.I.P. Munetaka! In Japanese or English they had some amazing songs. Highly recommended and highly underrated.
'So Lonely' is fantastic, yes! I can remember when I was first learning electric guitar, I would 'jam with Akira' on this song, trying to do some bluesy licks!
Only have a passing knowledge of this band what I remember is the guitarist is an insanely fast soloist which isn’t always a good thing for my tastes but for Loudness it works good band.
1. Firestorm (Loudness 1992) 2. Law Of The Devils Land (Law Of The Devils Land - 1983 3. Slap In The Face (Single 1991) 4. Ashes In The Sky (Lightning Strikes 1986) 5. Sleepless Night (Law Of The Devil's Land 1983) 6. Wind From Tibet (Biosphere 2003) 7. Go For Broke (Rise To Glory 2018) 8. Gotta Fight (Single 1985) 9. Angel Dust (Devil Soldier 1982) 10. The King Of Pain (King Of Pain 2010)
I know that I saw Loudness on their first American tour & there was a lot of hype behind them & the guitar player. I can’t remember who they opened for. Anyone remember who they supported on their first run through the Midwest?
10. Crazy Doctor 9. Rock n Roll Gypsy 8. Black Star Oblivion 7. Loudness 6. S.D.I. 5. Run For Your Life 4. Jealousy 3. 1000 Eyes 2. Let It Go 1. Heavy Chains
Now this is serious! If there's one thing in this country that really bothers me Is the inability of yanks to make a good cup of tea Instructions are printed on the teabag But either they can't read Or they think it's a gag
Ever hear of Anthem and Earthshaker? -two more great Japanese hard rock/metal bands. Anthem is very Priest influenced while Earthshaker is like its namesake, very Y&T influenced with nice keys a la Autograph, and the singer Marcy Nishida has a great voice. They did get poppier as they went on
Akira Takasaki is one of the best guitar players ever! I strongly recommend "Law Of The Devil's Land" top to bottom their best album followed by "Disillusion"
1- Black Star Oblivion
2- Ashes In The Sky
3- Crazy Doctor
4- SDI
5- Soldier Of Fortune
6- Red Light Shooter
7- Running For Cover
8- Like Hell
9- No Way Out
10- Get Away
I love Loudness! I never felt that they received their due here in the US.
I agree, they never did. Most people I speak to have no idea who they were/are.
Can't wait to check this one out. One of my favorites. My list:
10. Angel Dust
9. Esper
8. Speed
7. Who Knows
6. Get Away
5. Lonely Player
4. Dream Fantasy
3. Black Wall
2. Crazy Doctor
1. In the Mirror
Akira Takasaki is a criminally underrated guitarist. Loudness absolutely blew Motley Crue off the stage during that infamous 1985 tour.
I love this band from their first album! Influences from Rush in the beginning but very heavy! Akira Takasaki is a fantastic guitar player. Disillusion is my favorite album of them. Law of the Devils Land is my all time favorite song. Their last album has also some great songs.
Love the album "Disillusion" !
"Dream fantasy", "Ares' lament" and "Crazy doctor" are awesome !
My fave from them !
@@user-lq1ph9zo2q Totally agree!
Loudness from 2001 to date....you're missing out. A slew of stellar albums. Criminally underrated band. :-)
All the top Japanese bands are criminally underrated
I love Loudness, but that self-titled EZO album is a absolute metal masterpiece that is sadly a underrated classic that never ceases to amaze my ears even to this day.
Thunder in the east was on constant rotation with me learning guitar in my teens. Heavy chains and we could be together were my favs to learn
Awesome Edition! I love Loudness!
Great show Pete ! Loudness Rules

Pete, I really enjoy hearing about some of the lesser known bands such as Baker Loo. LOVE Loudness! Longtime fan... thanks for giving them some 'airtime' here! Akira's solo album, 'Tusk Of Jaguar' was good too!

Perhaps (along with Starz) the two most underrated and unknown great hard rocks bands of the 70's and 80;s.
1. The Lines are Down - Thunder in the East - 1985

As the access I would recommend Live -Loud -Alive
Loudness supported Saxon on the Rock the Nations tour. They were really good live.
You buy LOUDNESS, you buy heavy metal.

2) "Strike Of The Sword" from Hurricane Eyes (1987)
1) "One Thousand Eyes" from Lightning Strikes (1986)
Thanks, Pete!
Some of Loudness' early work in Japanese actually has some proggy elements. You can even hear a bit of a Rush influence
Munetaka and Masayoshi are very talented,To Be a Demon sounds like early Rush...
Mr. Yesman and Butterly are pretty proggy.
Heavy Chains! That tempo change into Akira's solo is absolutely spine tingling!
Great List, For Me:
1. Crazy Doctor
2. Heavy Chains
3. S.D.I
4. Crazy Nights
5. In The Mirror
6. Esper
7. Black Star Oblivion
8. Dream Fantasy
9. Get Away
10. Ashes In The Sky
Loudness from 2000 onward have some badass material. You should really investigate their material from the past 20 years.
Moonsorrow is from Finland😀 Maybe you mixed it to Moonspell which is from Portugal.
@@zachary1966 Yeah, I did. Thanks.
Great band. Law of devils land and Thunder in the East from top to bottom. Arigato
Akira Takasaki is a hell of a guitar player .. very underrated !
My favorite is 'Strike of the Sword', I think. Awesome that you're doing a Loudness video! That's bad-ass!
“Disillusion” is a Top 10 metal Album for me. Staggering record from start to finish. An amazing, legendary band who still bring it to this day. Nothing but the highest respect for Loudness. 🤟

I didn't like Lightning Strikes so much when it came out, but I loved Hurricane Eyes. I didn't care for the Ghetto Machine era, and I really need to go back and listen to their more recent albums. From the ones I know, here's my top 10, not really in order after the top 3:
1. Ares Lament
2. Clockwork Toy
3. Milky Way
4. Shinkiro
5. Lines Are Down
6. Rock'n'Roll Gypsy
7. Angel Dust
8. Ashes in the Sky (Shadows of War)
9. Burning Love (only the live version)
10. Strike of the Sword
Nobody bringing up Never Change Your Mind? Beautiful melodies in the verses as well as the solo.
I saw them open up for AC/DC on 1986. They were cool!!!!
First song I heard from Loudness was played by Joe Anthony on KMAC AM radio in 1983.
In the Mirror from Law of the Devils Land. Hooked me forever.
Let It Go my No.1.. A studio albums ranking of X-Japan would be awesome !
You know i totally forgot about loudness. I listened them a lot back in the day and I just have to dig out a few of their albums now.
Underrated band. "Hurricane Eyes" I love. So Lonely is a great ballad.
'So Lonely' is fantastic, yes! I can remember when I was first learning electric guitar, I would 'jam with Akira' on this song, trying to do some bluesy licks!
9:56 I thought Pete was going to break into the theme from Cagney and Lacey. Great introduction to a band that I hadn't come across.
Only have a passing knowledge of this band what I remember is the guitarist is an insanely fast soloist which isn’t always a good thing for my tastes but for Loudness it works good band.
Loudness rules!!! SDI is my favorite.
'Crazy Doctor' was always my favorite Loudness song.
1. Firestorm (Loudness 1992)
2. Law Of The Devils Land (Law Of The Devils Land - 1983
3. Slap In The Face (Single 1991)
4. Ashes In The Sky (Lightning Strikes 1986)
5. Sleepless Night (Law Of The Devil's Land 1983)
6. Wind From Tibet (Biosphere 2003)
7. Go For Broke (Rise To Glory 2018)
8. Gotta Fight (Single 1985)
9. Angel Dust (Devil Soldier 1982)
10. The King Of Pain (King Of Pain 2010)
Hi Pete ! can you please make a top 10 songs edition from these artists : Bee Gees, America, Eric Clapton. thank you.
There is an Akira protege rising in the east as we speak named Hal-Ca, her band is Asterism.
Shadows of war/Ashes in the sky is my favorite song Akira is shredding out of his mind.
My introduction to Loudness was through the "Odin: Photon Sailor Starlight" anime.
Gotta Fight", "Eruption", "Odin", and "Flash Out"
Loudness is an awesome band!
My top 3,
1.Heavy chains
2.shadow of war
3.like hell
I know that I saw Loudness on their first American tour & there was a lot of hype behind them & the guitar player. I can’t remember who they opened for. Anyone remember who they supported on their first run through the Midwest?
10. Crazy Doctor
9. Rock n Roll Gypsy
8. Black Star Oblivion
7. Loudness
6. S.D.I.
5. Run For Your Life
4. Jealousy
3. 1000 Eyes
2. Let It Go
1. Heavy Chains
Heavy Chains
We Could Be Together & Dark Desire
Crazy doctor will always be no1 but in a top ten I would also have the two singles: Road Racer and Gotta fight (the live aid shocker).
Hell Fire - from King Of Pain
The End Of Earth - from Spiritual Canoe
Why and For Whom - From Rise To Glory
It would be great to get some feedback!
Mike Vescera is such a beast, the soldier of fortune album is top 5 hard rock album all time to me.
1. Soldier of Fortune
2. Crazy Samurai
3. Crazy Nights
4. Milky Way
5. Hellrider
masters of reality show
Now this is serious!
If there's one thing in this country that really bothers me
Is the inability of yanks to make a good cup of tea
Instructions are printed on the teabag
But either they can't read
Or they think it's a gag
Ashes in the sky. ❤
I think Heavy Chains is one of their coolest and least talked about songs
Ever hear of Anthem and Earthshaker? -two more great Japanese hard rock/metal bands. Anthem is very Priest influenced while Earthshaker is like its namesake, very Y&T influenced with nice keys a la Autograph, and the singer Marcy Nishida has a great voice. They did get poppier as they went on
Have you heard Seikima - Winner? Awesome song
Before Ido the list....I wantto go through every album again
Akira Takasaki is one of the best guitar players ever! I strongly recommend "Law Of The Devil's Land" top to bottom their best album followed by "Disillusion"
