Bunny is a stunning evolution of Beach Fossils' sound throughout the years, pulling elements from the jangly melancholy of What a Pleasure, the lush arrangements of Somersault and the gritty, post-punk inspired tracks from Clash the Truth.
The record has Dustin Payseur's most vulnerable lyrics by far. He’s pushed himself to be honest and give insight to his emotional world. From poignant words about a family member’s cancer battle, the joy of being a father, to smoking a cigarette out of a car window with friends--it’s the band's most vivid and personal work to date.
Beach Fossils have spotlighted at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Primavera, and Posty Fest, in addition to sold-out headline dates at venues like Brooklyn Steel, The Wiltern, and Thalia Hall. The Other Side of Life: Piano Ballads hit No. 3 on the Billboard Traditional Jazz Albums chart and the band recently cracked two million Spotify monthly listeners and seven million monthly listeners total across all platforms. Bunny will be released June 2nd on Bayonet Records--a genre-expansive indie label he co-founded in 2014 that has served as an incubator for a diverse roster of developing artists since its inception.

i really respect that beach fossils are able to use their style/old elements to craft stuff that still feels fresh & modern... all while feeling true to their signature sound. can't wait for this new era boys

Man, Somersault brings back so many memories of summer nights in 2017.
6 years later, they drop the follow up and I'm about to have a kid. Feel like I'll have even better memories associated with this one. Very excited to hear the full thing! Solid track.

I love it! I'm 52 and a sucker for jangly guitars and this is a great sounding song and the lyrics have meaning and that's a rarity these days.

I found Beach Fossils on Spotify two years ago and they instantly went into the permanent rotation. Such an easy listening but emotionally charged vibe.

I moved away from NYC a few years back and left someone really special behind- our favorite all-time concert was your Halloween show at Brooklyn Steel back in 2017. Still miss that life everyday, but at least Beach Fossils will always port me back. Love y'all.

I discovered Somersault last summer and I still listen to it on repeat. This song is a grower. Gives me the same good vibes. Looking forward to the tour, make sure to come to Montreal please!
What I love about Beach Fossils is you can interpret the lyrics in multiple ways:
"She's novacaine" --> 1. She's out of it: potentially 'out of reach'; 2. She's on novacaine
"It's all I need to ease the pain" --> 1. Lead singer could be mocking the other person; this leads to multiple sub-interpretations: 1.1 Lead singer recognizes novacaine (or presumable subsequent drug use) could be addictive; 1.2 Lead singer does not think other person will get better; 1.3 Lead singer might not think drug use is the best way to 'regulate' 'pain'; 2. Lead singer could be singing the other person's common reason for using novacaine: we don't quite know.
"Don't fade away" --> 1. Don't use novacaine (to 'fade'; common term for getting 'high'); 2. Don't lose yourself (ie, ability to control oneself or personality); 3. Don't get high
"I knew you would, anyway" --> 1. Again, this could be a mocking tone such as that in "It's all I need to ease the pain" lyric (see lyric references 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3). A mocking tone suggests: 1.1 the alternative person told the lead singer they would stop their drug use but: 1.1.1 the lead singer did not think the alternative person would stop their drug use. 1.1.2 the leader singer believes the alternative person has a drug problem. I state the lead singer could mock the alternative person in 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 (1. more broadly). There still is room for interpretation. Without interpreting a mocking tone the lyrics could suggest: 2. the lead signer believes the alternative person will use drugs again 3. the lead singer recognizes the alternative person struggles with a potential drug addiction.
I love how they ended the song to how they used to on their Clash the Truth's songs, awesome touch!
