I've never commented but I found your channel a while back and 'binge watched' the homestead project. And I might add you're dong a wonderful job on the new home, keep moving along! This boat project is looking good also. Don't forget the pin stripes.......lol. ....13 PS I live near you, I might stop by when I see you "out and about".
You have air in the line in the pint sprayer. Open the priming valve up until you see the air come out and the paint is running through good. It should work after that
Another option would be to expanding foam the hole in the chine then get some of that aluminum welding rod, use a couple of beer cans & weld it down. That stuff is rock solid. Also, put 3 coats down. That's why you had aluminum showing through. And yes, the sprayer IS worth it.
You have the right idea about painting the jon boat. Using a sprayer is a better idea. That way you can devote yourself to working on other issues on the boat.
It looks like you used aluma hawk ? Did you reduce it at all it seems like it sprayed ok when the sprayer was working I’m asking about reducing or thinning the paint because I have one I’m about to do the same way !
So many of these boats come in green. If I were going to paint one I think I would go with a different choice of color. But to each his own. Think I would go with orange 🍊 you could see me coming a mile away!
guy from up North told me about the expanding foam trick for fixing rusted out running boards on trucks . . . I "guess" you could also do it on a boat.
Hi, just starting to paint my boat, I'm going with this brand paint. what color did you use? it looked like when it dried it was more tan. (which is what i want) thanks!
OZARKS brother- I never have liked those spray guns. I use to gel coat small parts once in a while for Ranger Boats years back & it's always a mess. I've seen those hand held 2gln sprayers for weed & grass killing used to spray on varnish sealer for decks boards work pretty well however. Other than that I'm getting lazy with using a spray can for everything else.....lol As a matter of fact, my brother n law painted his whole car he got out of the junkyard for $60 with $30 dollars worth of red spray paint! We took the old coil springs out of my wagon & installed them in the rear axle supports making the rear end raised up about 6" higher than the front. He then drove it for about 2 weeks & when stopped @ a gas station a young man offered him $200 for the car which he sold. Crazy things u do.....(30yrs ago)... Before u install the internal console & steering system try adding several bags of concrete mix or sand (400-500lbs), let it float out in a pond for a few days & you'll get a good idea of any leaks @ least where the water level applies constant pressure. So, do u have any future plans on building a tiny house? That's the latest craze. Be blessed.
Kurt, I was really just using the airless paint rig to get familiar with it. I am probably going to paint the house I am building with it and thought this might be a good chance to practice with it. I have a little 8 hp four stroke outboard for this boat, its tiller operated so there wont be a console. But putting weight in it and letting it sit in a pond is a good idea console or not.I wouldn't mind building a tiny house, but there just isn't any time in my schedule for a project of that size right now. But I do have an older 5th wheel that I have thought about clearing off to the frame and building a tiny house / toy hauler for my RZR on. But like I said, I don't know where I would find the time. Maybe after the house, garage, shop, and homestead are built I will give it a whirl. Your brother in law sounds like me, a sucker for a good project!
i have to admit i might paint my 1961 lonestar boat this color. im into that army green. but im trying to figure whether to use good car paint or just krylon. bad thing about car paint is its expensive. but gives a better result. plus you need to get a paint sprayer and compressor. both are cheap at harbor freight. but i wouldnt do the foam and bondo method. its not a car. that shit is gonna crumble but he dont care he probably just intends to flip it.
Man ....you should have strained the paint and thinned it a bit .your catching trash and air in your line. Take it from a painter. Other than that it looks good hate the paint gave you trouble wasn't the rig.
WOW! How to paint a boat in 5 minutes....never seen anything like that. I need me one of those! LOL.. thank you for the video!

Would have been nice to see how you mixed and prepared the paint gun.

I did not reduce it, and it has held up well. I just recently sold the boat, but it looked good still.

So whats the latest on this boat? Lets see some videos of it in the water!
What paint is that? I like the color

Did you ever finish the boat project?
sure there is something you can do with the bad section of rail. cut it out and rivet in a new section. fast, simple, and right.
Rosie the Riveter! I think 2 more rivets and it will be aerodynamically correct!
Your paint gun sounds like a 1970's dodge with a bad ballast resistor cranking over but failing to start.
What is the priming paint did you use Sir,thanks
Is there a part 6? I don’t see it
Nice color. Maybe a 2nd coat on the exterior, the boat could really use it.

Did you ever replace the foam in the bottom of the boat and what did you use? Thanks
name of the paint sprayer

I'm thinking that paintsprayer doesn't like the color
Wheres the follow up vid?
I like the brown color.
never trust a guy who tucks in his shirt into pants without a belt.
Dmitrik Guajardo lmao
Lmao
Never trust a guy who tells you who you can trust based on clothing choices.
my brother-in-law does also & he's from Oklahoma - lol 😆
what color is it?
Its Alumahawk paint. Jon boat green on the outside and jon boat tan on the inside.
Your sprayer is making that noise because there is air in the line.
No primer?
Fumes didn’t get to you at all without a respirator ?
Is this project over? I cant find episode 6. Thanks for the series so far
I haven't finished it yet. I still have it, I just have to get time to work on it is all.
i have to admit i might paint my 1961 lonestar boat this color. im into that army green. but im trying to figure whether to use good car paint or just krylon. bad thing about car paint is its expensive. but gives a better result. plus you need to get a paint sprayer and compressor. both are cheap at harbor freight. but i wouldnt do the foam and bondo method. its not a car. that shit is gonna crumble but he dont care he probably just intends to flip it.
Dmitrik Guajardo I know your comment is old but if it's not gel coat you're waiting your money.
Use a 411 tip next time.
That is a v bottom boat. Jon is a flat bottom.
If you skip to 4:50, you will see it is actually a flat bottom boat and not a V bottom.
You didn't even spray any primer down.
Sean Chastain i believe what he used was an all in one aluminum boat paint such as aluma hawk
Bad idea putting expanding foam in that gap it will make it corrode. need to weld that shit
No mask? LOL. Could you tell me what kind of paint?
Its Alumahawk paint.

Something was clogging your paint suck up.
