I started to do heavy lift low but quality rep since i followed and understand him. He lectures a lot about increasing the quality of my rep first instead of my rep or quantity. I'm ever more stronger to do my lifts since then and the progress i made in looks are the bonus of it. Thanks sean
Personally I like putting my hands on the knees for the concentric and taking them off for the eccentric so I can do supramaximal training. But always, always max range of motion.
Similarly, on the 45 degree leg press I put my hands together in-between my legs in a kind-of dive pose, and catch my knees with my elbows at the bottom of the ROM, but then remove them to push the weight back up. Why? Because I've injured my adductors on both sides trying to be seen to be doing the right form and full ROM in the past, so I don't give a F now if someone thinks I'm cheating; I'm protecting myself as I work hard. I also sometimes properly touch my thighs as shown (albeit very lightly) on the Cable leg press, but only if I'm doing slow, slightly limited-ROM finisher sets, where it helps to maintain the tension. My legs kill absolutely afterwards, so you decide whether it's a valid practice or not.
Leg press is the only workout I use strictly light weights (40kg) because I only focus on my upper body, I know my legs aren't that strong even if I wanted to ego lift I'll most likely break my very thin legs.
