Just curious about how old you are? I am 51 and converting and when I see young dudes doing it , it actually inspires me tremendously because young people are the future. I am more inspired to push myself and make these changes that most my age wouldn't do.... That's because I know there is a future. I'm an older single woman. My church is filled with married couples with young children -- they rarely talk to me and no one has sought me for help as they like to help each other because the kids can all entertain each other, and they all do mom stuff centered around their children. Not being able to serve has made me miserable as I spend all my time outside of work focused on myself and doing what I want. I have talked much with my priest about this and he pretty much implied that this parish isn't for me. So, now I'm moving to another parish in another town. I pray pray pray that the Lord will give me opportunities to serve my new parish, as it is awful having the feeling of not being wanted in my soon-to-be former one. Thank you for this timely video, Fr. It's true that the only real happiness comes from serving others. Every other kind of "happiness" is just empty and meaningless when it doesn't serve Christ.
That parish didn't have outreach ministries? Adult catechumen classes that need teachers? Sunday school for kids? Prosphora baking rotation? Coffee hour/lunch sponsor team that cooks every Sunday on a rotation? Ladies group? Grounds/gardening/church beautification group? Fundraising committee? Prison ministry, homeless ministry, meals for needy families ministry? Layperson chanters? Whether you stay or move, you need to get involved to get to know people. It's hard to talk to parents who are wrangling 4 kids after Liturgy, they never come and strike up a conversation with me, best I get is a hello. I'm a single young man and this is my observation.
I'm sorry about your experience Ma'am. As a unmarried young man I feel the same way as yourself, people rarely talk to me at church. Everything seems to revolve around families and children, but I have learned to stop caring and to simply carry my cross by myself. I pray that you find happiness and fulfillment.
Hello father Josiah Threnham, I was born in Romania but I live in France and I am Christian. I was born in a Protestant family and now consider to convert to Orthodox Christianity ☦️ and in part it’s due to your great work. Thank you so much. ❤️God bless
how are you dealing with your protestant family accepting your beliefs? I find that my romanian parents have a certain hate against orthodoxy and it's hard to even have a conversation as they are ignorant and not open to hearing more... 😢
Could you please pray for my non-Orthodox dad? Today he was diagnosed with a serious heart issue & is in the hospital. I and my family want the longest possible life expectancy. And I'd like more time to try and have a closer relationship with him than I've had.

Such perfect timing Father, I have continued to endure what has been the most difficult 4 months of my entire life. It would seem comical how terrible events have befallen me, one after another, were it not so painful. Thank you for reorienting my focus to the Lord’s plan. Your blessings father. If our path of salvation and personal perfection and improvement is holy matrimony - marriage then we should try to fight against our passions, acknowledge them in daily basis and try to shape ourselves in they way God asks in order to become the men and women - spouses God wants us to be in order to serve one another Man serves woman, woman serves man. But firstly they have to become real friends as you have already thoroughly explained in another video. This is foundation for an honest, godly relationship. Please pray to God in order to grant us with Patience in this world full of superficial perspective, rush and perversion that real godly marriage is so hardly attacked even from family members
Friendship with in marriage is one thing that we have lost - now a marriage of utility and obligation, but I think its more common with the stoic Orthodox sense, raise your family keeping your nose down to the grind stone, and the fear of having pleasure, happiness, or fun could be a sin?
Thank you for this video Father Josiah, glory be to God! Us residing in the Washington DC area are hungry for God’s Word, and would greatly benefit from a visit from you one day God willing!
I'm as close as I can be to Orthodoxy by joining a Ukrainian Catholic Church because it's the closest to me. In the Adirondacks area. We use the Byzantine Rite St John Chrysostom
I don’t think fr has an accent. I’ve noticed when he speaks of something especially deep in his heart, his speech is affected. He might be unconsciously mimicking one of his former teachers. Thank you Father for your tireless efforts for the faith.
Father, I believe it to be true what you are saying, so why is it a difficult pill for me to swallow? Is it because I am lacking in humility (of which I am)
Recently I've been learning how terrible a sinner I am, far worse than I ever thought possible. In this video, you say that one gains personal happiness when he mourns over his sins. I mourn over my sins but I am not happy. Why? Because I cannot be in the Church. Without baptism, without Christ's body & blood, I have no hope. I am disabled, no job, no car (and insufficient driving experience), no friends, and my Protestant family would never drive me to a church they'd find objectionable. God isn't answering my prayers to open a path so I can finally become part of the Church & He isn't allowing me to succeed in anything I try to do in order to alter my circumstances (including attempting to contact priests near me). What can I do? Without baptism, I cannot be washed clean. Without chrismation & communion I don't have the Holy Spirit or Christ within me, thus I do not have life in me. How can I be happy or content? What can I do? How can I persuade God to have mercy on me & answer my prayers?
Don't fall into despair- that is the devils work. Have hope and have faith in God. He will lead you to purity. Follow and pray to him always 🙏 God has helped me in so many of my failings because I asked for his help. He is waiting for you to reach out and ask too. Don't be afraid to do so. May God Bless you always.
The idea that you don't deserve happiness is sown deep by devils. Much like a weed in the garden you have to uproot it all. However, you can't do it alone. Christ is there, you need to pray and pursue Him. I would be lying if I said it was an easy journey. As someone who also fails God, just know that there is shame in sin, but no shame in repentance. God's love is stronger than your failure. Christ be with you.
Father, why does God never answer prayers? When I prayed, fasted, and went to church regularly do you know what changed? Absolutely nothing. Do you know what prayers I had answered? Absolutely none. Do you know what changed when I stopped going to church, praying and fasting? Absolutely nothing. No help, no answers, no relief, no change. So I gave up and I stopped. I believe in God, but for all practical purposes and intent, it doesn't make any difference.
Don’t abandon God. Have courage. Sometimes when we see other people suffer it puts in prospective how trivial our own worries or misfortunes are. (I think of those suffering in Gaza without food, water, shelter and in pain.) so your suffering may be actually helping many, many others. Embrace and trust God’s timing.
@@irisheyes5890 I not sure seeing the suffering of others is away to elevate ( lessen) your circumstances of personal tribulation - deriving contentment from the misfortunes of others?
