I was equally surprised to discover LAGOS, Portugal on our motorcycle tour through Portugal. It was obvious to me the connection with our own Lagos in Nigeria. But that ends only with the name and the location (sharing the Atlantic Ocean).
We enjoyed it so much we’re considering moving there…

Really enjoyed this. Visited Lagos like three years ago from Germany and we loved it so much. My Jamaican German family felt right at home. Also loved Madeira the Portugese Island and we just got back from Lisbon some weeks ago.

That's the original city with the name. The Nigerian city of Lagos was named by the Portuguese after the one in Portugal

Do Nigerian students study history. The Portuguese did trade a lot in Africa.
Exactly! The Portuguese were one of the first Europeans to trade around coastal west Africa in the 15th century and Lagos, Nigeria was established as a trading post. After that the British which was a stronger naval power than Portugal took it over and the trade in slaves began. Unfortunately as Nigerians are not taught history they are ignorant of this basic history.
