Doheny jr.’s “friend” who committed the murder-suicide was reported to be the husband’s lover. Quite the scandal decades ago! This beautiful estate is a HIGHLIGHT in the L.A. tour I give friends and family, along with The Broad, Huntington gardens, and a Point Dume hike at sunset.
Another fun fact….. that entire upper (now public) parking lot is above a massive water reservoir that has its own little row boat at the bottom of the entrance to the cave like reservoir.
Just as with manor houses in England and Hudson River Valley estates on the east coast, events and film production are two of the most lucrative ways to keep these beautiful properties current. Public use is best for these vast estates, best to be shared by all.
Little known facts; there are two lights on top of the home that no longer work. One Blue and the other Red. They would shine to the police and fire station in case of emergency. They also were the inspiration for the bat signal. Other fun facts; the walls are poured concrette and are three feet thick. The shingles are 3-4 inches thick and never once in 100 years has the roof leaked. Oh and theres a massive reservoir behind the home under the parking lot; you can actually take a canoe down there its so big. And there have been 7 murder and or suicides in the home. Its absolutely haunted.
Wow I did not know that, I can't wait to go and visit, thanks Desmond Shaw for one of the most entertaining bits of TV.
It's a nice little park and grounds. Check the schedule for times when you can go inside the mansion. It's typically closed for entry.
WoW!!!
Desmond, WoW!!! 😍 What a dream…🍃🌹🍃

I was just thinking that I haven't been there in awhile . I live only a few miles away.
@@mizzury54 It truly is an INCREDIBLE park in Beverly Hills!! (with clean, newer restrooms even!). Such a beautiful spot, and incredible history!!
