What Happened to Talen Horton-Tucker?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лис 2024
- Talen Horton-Tucker went from being touted as a future star for the Los Angeles Lakers to most recently signing a 1-year deal with the Chicago Bulls. The former second-round pick from the 2019 NBA Draft has had a bizarre career trajectory that's been marked by his inclusion in nearly every single Los Angeles Lakers trade rumor since 2019.
Ultimately, the Lakers ended up trading Talen Horton-Tucker to the Utah Jazz, where he spent two years before moving on to the Chicago Bulls this offseason.
But how good was Talen Horton-Tucker, and was it ever good enough for him to be put in some of the young player conversations that he was included? Was he ever actually one of the NBA's best young players, or was it just the Lakers using smoke and mirrors?

Ill never forgive that the lakers let caruso walk, kept him, then traded him for pat bev, then traded pat bev for mo bamba, and then waived mo bamba
In my community, we call him "little Westbrook".
He showed some flashes of Point Guard potential. But his physical and ball hogging style are like Westbrick 😅
And I never understood why they chose to keep him above everybody else. Only reason I could think of is because THT is signed with Klutch sports
They have nothing on the Cavs. They declined an offer of Amar'e for JJ Hickson, then traded Hickson for Omri Casspi
Lakers have the worst front office that handle the team roster.
Prime Rob Pelinka 😂😂😂
Being named Talen instead of Jalen in today's NBA was a debuff
😂😂😂
😂facts
Definitely not hes fault he was named that and Ik its a joke..

i know we are in the dead of the offseason when i get excited to watch a THT video
It’s ROUGH out here
Need some NBA before i faint
Get out of my head 😂
We’re starving out here. Thank god there was at least Olympic Basketball
Its dry out here 😭
All I want is to be the Talen Horton-Tucker of my career - overhyped, overpaid, not too harshly criticized, and mostly forgotten to enjoy my money in peace. Shout out to the legendary THT!
Lmao the goldilocks zone of being paid more than what you're due
Don’t forget that he won a championship as well! Great nba career if we being honest 🫡
Wait till you learn about Tobias Harr😂😂
THT never got his bag though
@@dapo11 he lowkey spends a lot of that money to help the community tho from what i hear which is cool
He’s a victim of “he’s not that good he just played for the lakers” like most of their non-superstar players
He got a bag! He's no vicitim. Too bad for the teams that traded for him though.
@@je5406 you shouldn’t be mad at him you should be mad at the lakers front office for being a garbage franchise
😂😂😂😂😂
Bros a casual
As a Lakers fan, we though THT's floor is a 3D player. 24M/ 3y is not that expensive for that exaptation.
Rob getting Russ spoiled everything. There was no need to choose between Alex or THT as there was no need to get Russ ( I love him btw). It just wasn't a good fit. We could've run it back, if we were making any trade it should have been for a centre as Gasol was aging
Facts
Westbrick was arguably the worst Lakers personnel decision ever.
guess you weren't around when they got Karl Malone and he shattered the team
THT had all the skills, the size, the length, and athleticism to be a great player, but he never improved from his rookie season.
What? Im a laker fan so I know he definitely improved every year
@@anubis4032he slightly improved just not enough to really meet the expectations
@@MrDuckman0852 the expectations were delusional to begin with! that's what happens when you put that laker jersey on! he's a solid NBA player!
@@MrDuckman0852 he peaked at like year 3 it was wild to see, he would make a really good move and then brick an open shot/lay a LOT lol
He really just needed to get his shooting percentage up. Other than that he was worth the hype he got
Watching him play on the Jazz was a challenge. All I remember is driving into the lane and either turning it over or chucking up a circus shot
Facts 😭
B2B videos massive W, probably my favourite basketball UA-camr, should be way bigger man keep it up.
Appreciate you 🙏🙏🙏
I’ll always remember the Lakers not trading for Kyle Lowry because they didn’t want to include THT in any trades
He’s only 23??? Holy shit.
Hairline of a 42 year old
@@TannerGoatedit aint easy getting to the nba
2:16 criminal puttin that poster as blurred b role footage haha
I really appreciate the nuance you bring to your analysis and overall tone (not just in this video but others as well, like in Trae Young one for example). It's refreshing compared to other nba content
Dude not even bad he can ball! I fw him 💯
Fr!
For a 46th pick he low key did amazing. He got a big deal and should have enough saved for a good life
He's looked great so far this pre season. Much improved defense and more poised and in control on offense.
Factss. He's still cooking in his 4th preseason for the bulls
As Laker fans we overhype nearly every young guy who can score more than 10pts once in a while. Xavier Henry, Ryan Kelly, Jodie Meeks, Kendall Marshall. Laker fans thought those guys were steals at the time they played for the team. Right now its Max Christie, the kid look like a solid player but i've seen some ridiculous comparisons made by Laker fans for him.
Dont forget about Vando. He puts the Lakers to the top😂 Hell even Reaves gets dangled as trade piece for a 3rd star.
Ryan Kelly 💀
Now it's Dalton Knecht💀
you deserve far more subs, one of the best basketball channels here!
As a jazz fan who's watched him for the past two years, he's shown flashes and made some impressive plays, but unfortunately the expectations put on him by the lakers haven't helped his perceived value, it's not impossible that he develops better passing and a somewhat decent shot, he just needs to show it reasonably soon in Chicago.
Alexhoops been asking all the right questions lately
Being a Jazz fan I know exactly how this video is gonna go 😭
💀
Great video man, keep it up!
He's young and still developing. Like most young players who enter the league developing a consistent 3 pt shot can make or break a career. Other than his poor shooting THT has all the tools to last in the NBA.
His decision making is also very suspect. As a jazzman, if he ever got the ball, the possession would end in a shot or a turnover like 70% of the time. Could he be good? Sure, but if he didn't improve on the actively tanking jazz, I think he's cooked.
He's 23 and is still on an nba roster. He can still do something in the league although each season it gets less likely.
He can still recover but the guy was so overhyped.
He can't even breakout on a rebuilding Jazz team. He's an end of the bench player and will never be a star or starter.
@@euroteknique12how he would break out when he don’t start and they got Collin sexton
@tbupnexttruths1355 If he can't even outplay an inefficient scorer and defensive liability whose not in the Jazz's future, then he's not ever going to breakout. At this point, he wouldn't even take Cam Thomas's spot in the starting lineup or even Gary Trent jr. He's a career reserve and there's no team in the league he could start for
@@tbupnexttruths1355 Let’s be honest, if he can’t start in front of Collin Sexton, he’s not starting anywhere
Lakers overhype all their mediocre players just because they are on the Lakers for example THT, Kuzma, Reeves, Shannon Brown etc
When you get matched up with lebron you are forced to sacrifice
Kuzma and Reaves are good role players that can good pieces on other teams. Noticed that you left out Caruso, who people like you thought he was just an overhyped bench player until he showed his skills on a different team, then y'all switched your tune all of a sudden lol
@@TheHuskyK9 Oh yeah, totally forgot about Caruso, it's easy to forget since he's constantly injured. I forgot but remind me how many all star and all nba teams he's made?
Jared Vanderbilt and Rui too
@@opiniononion just because he hasn’t made those doesn’t mean he’s not a good player. No one was saying they are gonna be superstars. But they have help lead their team to a championship
I remember back then, those social media haters were saying they should had traded Bron away instead of THT and develop THT because he's younger.
Haterade or Lakers fan really something else.
He looked amazing at times. I thought the future of the Lakers backcourt was THT and Caruso. His touch right around the basket with those super long arms reminded me of Ceballos.
"He's still young, He's got time to develop his jumper" ... get used to hearing this
Lakers Office: “Everyone is on the trade market except Talen Horton-Tucker”
Crazy how things change.
Great video!
As a laker fan i honestly never really got the hype
Not a Laker fan, but I remember THT from finding out that he has the highest wingspan-height ratio in the entire league. Dude's arms are seriously long.
That’s what’s messing his jump shot up unfortunately he should take notes from Wembanyaba
@@marcxdjomoI doubt it. D.Mitch has a 6'10 span and shoots very well, Kawhi's is 7'3, and KD also has stupidly long arms.
Great vids Alex🤙🏽🫡
I really appreciate the video, was just wondering a few days ago what happened to him to have such a weird career evolution
I saw a bunch of articles hyping THT up after his rookie season and didn’t know much about basketball back then so I picked THT in like round 3 of a fantasy draft and spent the rest of the season trying to trade him. He was so bad 😭😭😭
The good news is I highly doubt you were the only one lol
I think I remember they compare him to kawhi
1:19 no way that wasn’t a lie 😂
As someone that followed lakers , he was pretty young with great strength in a good lakers team .
Yes we all thought he will be great
This guy looks like he’s been repairing hvac systems for the last 10 years
Talen has a long career ahead of him I really don’t see this aging well.
Dont know why lakers fans was hyping this dude up😂
Lebron also said Shabazz Napier was the best pg in that one draft class. Lebron is clearly not good at identifying talent
Lol, love it when players try to be GMs. Such a good track record. :D
Stop judging In hindsight coming out of college that was a fair statement. Spencer dinwiddy is fair but again hindsight and that’s one. Go back and look who was better at that time. Marcus smart wasn’t even a point guard at the time.
He also was high on norris cole. But saying that ruins the narritive right?
@shorewall yeah Jerry west n Larry bird were straight up bum gms😒🙄
He says his son is good as well 🤦
I was over the moon when the magic drafted him that late though
THT was definitely love hate relationship but casuals never got over his post season performance. Hope he’s doing well !
i remember his 20 assists in one game
I don't think he was ever going to be a star but definitely thought he could be a REALLY good starter. His build and skills are so unique
I’m a big laker fan and was on the tht hype train before it took off, that being said I’ve yet to see him make a left hand layup to this day. Bro would rather pump pump reverse step through and get blocked using his right when he had a wide open left hand lay
Another upload yay!!😮😅
He attended Simeon HS in Chicago, after D.Rose and Jabari Parker. Also it was a down year for Chicago hoops, he stood out and had the spotlight. However, if you have eyes, you knew he wasn't burgeoning star. Love the kid and his family, but LeBron built this monster hype and tried to justify it.
He seemed like a crafty finisher because he would do absolutely anything to not use his left hand.
Idk but I’m glad he’s home. 🥰
To be honest, he's like a bigger version of Eric Gordon, with long wingspan. I hooe he could develop more of his outside shooting and be a much better defender so that he could last long in the league.
Good point.
A bigger version with lesser skills
He did leave with a championship ring.
He started to get creases in his neck and belly. Some pro athlete.
He had a lot of potential. Now a lot of these "bad" decisions or "he only averaged X" discussions will all sound ridiculous when comparing to what's going on NOW with Bronny James.
i will never forget lakers fans and players, especially kyle kuzma, saying that he was as good and could be better than anthony edwards lol.
Hyped by Klutch. Ain’t heard Rich say his name since he got off the Lakers.
Y'all know why the Lakers didn't want to let him go? He's with Klutch.
He wasn't overhyped .. he was a late first-round pick who's had a late first round career
Hey just a heads up, you actually wouldn’t have even needed to google this because I mention it in the video that you’re commenting on, but he was in fact not drafted in the first round
@@AlexHoops😂😂😂
Most improved player next year
🙏
Good luck with that
i used to love getting THT on every team i used back in 2k20 myleague and see him develop haha
Yeah, that happened with marshon brooks in Brooklyn.
I’ll watch anything you put out but a THT video is crazy😂 is this a social experiment to see if we’ll watch anything
That clippers pre-season game will not be forgotten
I rmbr he was good on the lakers and than got traded and everyone thought it was a bad move but ever since then I haven’t rlly heard of him
I’d love a video on late-career championships, and how realistic it is for someone like Bron or Steph or KD to get another ring
He was a flashy scorer sometimes, that's why. He reminds me of Shannon Brown on LA, but instead of dunking, he dribbles and does layups.
I remember lakers only wanted to trade him for superstars lmao
We need more playmakers in the world of basketball not just scoring usage heavy guards
if I'm being honest when he was a Laker I really liked his game and his play
I'll help you out here, the reason the Lakers stuck with THT was because LeGM thought he was the next big thing
Also represented by KlutchSports.
A contract for their representation is a paycheck for bron and rich Paul.
It was all Lakers media did at that time and it was annoying since it's pretty obvious that THT is no Manu or any other second round steals. It was unfair to him also but that's how the Lakers overhype almost all their young players.
I compared him a lot to Luguentz Dort but Lu's defense was so great to beginn with and he his so compatible to everyone on the field. So its difficult for such a mostly non-shooting versatile player that can do everything but isn't great in nothing. So I think a low profile player like him need to have at least one special skill to stay in the league.
Talen needed to have the ball in his hands. But he played with Bron. So he stood in a corner until bron kick the ball out to him for a three
It’s not just him man. Stop it. That’s just the laker effect. Lonzo, Ingram, Kuzma, talen and even Austin. Mfs really think Austin is gonna be elite🤣🤣🤣hell no, he’s a solid role player and that’s all he will be. When ur a laker ur popularity shoots thru the roof and there is so much expectations and pressure put under you because ur in one of the greatest sports franchises in history. And the huge bandwagon fan base it has perpetuates and exaggerates it even more.
Dude was just unlucky he landed on Lebron and Rich Paul’s radar.
I feel like THT would have benefitted a lot from a couple more years in college. It would have given him time to polish and develop his game (especially his defense and three point shot). If he had come in a bit more polished in those areas, I think he'd be a great roleplayer/rotation guy.
1 minor thing you missed about Trade Him Today is that he was the youngest player in his draft class, which further fed into the endless potential overhype.
Welcome to the bulls brotha 🐂
Laker fans love overrating guys who are just guys who benefit from system/coach... but somehow underrate and refuse to acknowledge the true greatness of legends who overcome bad coaches such as Magic and LeBron.
Brother have you heard of pat riley, never said magic had to deal with bad coaching
I remember when laker fans would go crazy talking about tht and not wanting to trade him for no one. Now most laker fans probably already forgot that he exists. lol😭😭
As a laker fan who watched the lakers closely. I was so confused what rob pelinka saw on these guy the only upside i was seeing is his fancy layups. Still mad that they let caruso go to save money and pay THT
My issue with the THT situation was that they let go Caruso in free agency to resign him. Terrible move by Pelinka.
i’m convinced he was only in trade rumors cause lebron said “Who the fuck names their kid Talen horton tucker”
THT doesn't have the quickness to be a starter but still has the talent to be a great sixth man or a superb rotational player.
Quickness?? Like Luka and Jokic?? Silly take.
We knew, here in Celtics land, that THT was being overhyped by the Lakers. He was a credible player who was sold high, as in 'high value.' I don't blame the Lakeshow for trying. It's part of the business.
When as a sophomore he thought he was too good for summer league was one of the funniest and most humbling moments I’ve ever witnessed
He looks good so far over here in Chitown...just give the man some time!
Bro called 41%FG Abysmal lol
I was thinking the same thing when he said that lol
that off-season content got y’all struggling
Are you kidding me? every average Laker player are ALL OVER HYPED!
saying that the lakers gassed him up to trade him is is giving the lakers to much credit and implies that they had an actual plan.
The lakers mismanaged that so bad, he was overvalued at first but then totally undervalued by being traded for pat bev was a terrible trade
I’ll never forget Jay Williams listing Talen Horton Tucker as a reason why Giannis would never win a title in Milwaukee. Never trust Laker hype trains. Only real exceptions have been Alex Caruso and Austin Reeves.
On the plus side, he looks 37 so most people just assume he got old.
i remember lakers fans saying that he would be the next lakers star
Sad thing is Lakers could've gotten something great in a trade for him when everyone was fooled but LeGM wanted to keep this guy
still 23
Once he got the hype he started ball hogging and won't facilitate, he always drives inside even if it's difficult to score he cannot see his teammates outside who are ready to shoot
Lakers are legendary for over-hyping players. Does anyone remember Devean George?
The problem with him is he’s not consistent, never has been. Probably will never be that’s about it sadly 😢
