I traded in once from Lycoming Stratfort a TF 35 to design and supply a CODOG propulsion system for an existing chemical tanker. Gearbox was made to reduce to 1000 rpm. Bridge, ER control and cp propeller were modified.
Ship was certified by Bureau Veritas of France. Inlet and exhaust losses were 200 hp.
Should be mentioned that the TF50 (and the the TF40) is derived from the Lycoming T55 helicopter turboshaft engine. With it's centrifugal high pressure compressor, the TF40/50 engines are notably shorter than all axial designs of the same power class like the General Electric LM500 (which is based on the CF34 turbofan). This helps with packaging within motor yachts and high speed patrol crafts with limited machinery space.
Interesting ! do you know how many spools the TF50 has ? I cant find it anywhere.
@@matthiasknutzen6061 It depends on how you count. The T55/TF50/TF40 has a single compressor spool -- the 7 axial stages and 1 centrifugal stage driven by 2 high pressure turbine stages sits on a single rotating assembly turning at the same speed called N1. However, power is not taken from the compressor spool but rather a separate power turbine with 2-stages that drives the output shaft called N2. You can say that it is an engine with a single spool compressor or you can say it's a dual spool engine in terms of the total number of rotating assemblies. This contrasts with modern 2-spool turbofan engines which typically have high and low pressure compressor spools rotating at different speeds.
@@dwightlooi Thanks for your comments. Yes the TF50 and well as the TF40 and related ETF40B engines are all called two spool or two shaft, free turbine engines.
Very good video...thanks for sharing
4:53 - World Trade Center in the background, I haven't seen this in quite a while.
Not quite new PR-material...
Lightweight package.
how many spools(axels) does this engine have ?
How do you guys convert the turbines to diesel
Put diesel in the fuel tank.
That's cool af. Why dont they call it a diesel turbine engine then ?
Because Diesel is the Engine Cycle and not Fuel. The Fuel Oil just happened to be named after its most common Use.
Is it okay for me to share this in LinkedIn?
Hi Norsham, please feel free to share.
Remove that air input screen and gain an extra 10% power output.
Turbin..... Its turbine "bine" 😂
