My Max was a domestic longhair. When I needed to trim his bottom, I would wait till feeding time. He would have his head in the food and I would hold his tail up and trim the back. He would sidle left and right while he ate. I would follow along, left and right. Never a problem! 😃 It's been many years. I still miss him.
I never knew about cornstarch for knots and snarls. My female MC was brushed every day after her supper. If we forgot or became busy, she would trill and chirp and dance around until the brush was brought out and Sassy got brushed every day. She had one of my old hair brushes that she loved. She would carry it around and would sleep with it. I miss her.
Molly is beautiful and such a wonderful girl keeping so still for so long. My Maine coon girl is constantly busy and hardly sits still so it's lovely to see Molly so chilled out.
Sooooooo much hair lol, giant cotton ball of fun 🥰🥰🥰 I loved how she's like thanks ma, yes I'll help myself to a treat. Y'all are awesome, take care and totally love these furbies 💙💞💙💞💙💞
Watching this and realizing how much of a good kitty boy our Chewie is and how naughty Reny is. We haven't bathed Reny in a long, long time, but he loves having his ears cleaned. Chewie, however, endures chronic IBD and receives a bath following a flairup. So, 3-4 times a year.
My 11 month old kitten has been highly agitated every time we’ve tried to either clip her nails, or brush her anywhere except her face, neck & chin. This has been aggravated by surgery on her back leg, which, of course, was painful & very sensitive. I have to sedate her before I can have her claws clipped, which our vet does (yes, it costs, but you’d have to see how she actually cries & screams!). I’ve clipped the nails of dogs & cats for many years. I have never had this problem before. Apart from that, she is so sweet & affectionate, & no trouble at all. Thanks for your video!
I had a long hair Calico like Molly I would brush her at least twice a week with the slicker brush and cut the mats out. I would give her a bath once or twice a year after she sheds. I never thought about a sanitary cut but I will keep that in mind for the future if I get another longhair cat Molly was a good girl💞🐈👍
When I had Maxwell Smart ( a super intelligent domestic longhair and not a Main Coon ), I would trim his butt when I fed him. He would eat and I would pick up his tail and snip snip! 🥰 watta CAT!!
Thanks for the demonstration. Molly is a good kitty. 😻 I predominantly use a comb to get down to 2nd layer. In my opinion, brushing causes more mats, because the brush cannot effectively reach this layer, where mats tend to originate.
Where did you get the pet clippers?? I need to buy one because my Main coon has some bad matted fur under her chin that I've been slowly brushing out 🤔
Here is the one we have. It’s very affordable compared to others I’ve seen and it works great! www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01LW145RS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image
Show them you are responsible. Help with chores and maybe try to get a job to help pay for your Maine Coon. My dad was allergic to cats so we never had cats growing up. I had to wait until I moved out to get a cat. Good luck!
@@lifewithmainecooncats thank you! But i maybe gonna have the Maine Coon kitten from a really goid and responsable Friend for free... But my Parents are not convinced to keep them inside the house😢
Lucky you. I have a very non-compliant cat when it comes to nails. Have to bring her in for that. I can brush her so avoid many bezoars which I found one of the other day on the carpet. It was small and I called her Miss Bezoar (=hairball). Treats: that's something my cat knows by name!
I’d never cut my cats nails as she’s an outside cat and always has been- indoor cats are completely understandable but please-! Don’t cut your outdoor cats nails! They climb things, they defend themselves against other cats and things they try to catch that fight back- They’re important tools that your cat uses
Mine are indoor cats and I never trim their claws; they seem to keep them at the same length by using their scratching posts I have throughout the condo
My guy the climbing and such is gunna sharpen em back up within a day. They'll be fine a promise. Mine are indoor outdoor. Trimming their tips so they dont kill each other if they play rough inside doesnt make me a monster lmao
Older cats even when they go outside can use their claws less and they can grow so long that they are painful to walk on because they can no longer retract. So you should cut a cats nails if they are growing too long that they won't retract. The better advice is to NOT declaw your cat EVER !
We give ours sanitary trims to try to avoid the 💩. However, it still happens. We use cleaning pet wipes to wipe it off, but it it’s really gross then a bath is needed.
Thank you for making this vid. This is part of my research before I take in a Maine Coon. Molly is such a beautiful and good girl! In your opinion, does a Maine Coon do well on their own (if their owner [or staff, I should say]) works from home?
You’re welcome and thank you for watching! 😺 Our Maine Coons need to be with us or they act kind of crazy. For example, if we are in the same room as then they cuddle with us and act calm. But if we go into another room they follow us and if we close the door they meow or yowl through the door (especially Molly). They just always want to be with us! They are very needy cats. Hope this helps answer your question.
@@lifewithmainecooncats - that really helps, thank you. As a work-from-home person, they will definitely get my attention pretty much whenever they want it, as well as lots of love, space and playtime. Thanks again.

I didn't realize I had sent a comment till after I ended my current comment! Oopsie!! 😁😁😁
Thanks for the inspiration! Molly did a great job at being a role model for all lovely Maine Coons around the world!

No joke! Molly is like, hey, a little more to the left Dad. Lmfo
Have you ever tried a glove brush?

Yes she is! Especially when she wants something (treats 🙊) ❤️

In springtime you can throw the clumps of cat hair outside and birdies will use it for nests ^-^
We do that sometimes 😸
Can you please give tips on how to convince the parents to have a main coon?

The shaving of the back end is my fear
You could always have a professional groomer do it for you if you’re scared.
What if they get poop stuck on back end

I have one he is six years old and neutered
