    Great video , I was looking for someone showing how to replace the actual pcv valve hose. Now that I know how easy it is, it makes sense to change it rather than try and clean it or just re-install the old one. Thanks again!

      @NameItBuildIt  6 років тому +1

      Yes I would replace the hose too if you are over 75,000 miles or close to 100,000. Not only will cleaning it be hard, the old hose will dry rot and crack after the 15 years it was on your car! I left a link in the description for all the part numbers you need. And you are correct- the matrix is the same engine. Thanks for the awesome comments, it feels so good to know I helped someone.

    Thanks for your reply. I particularly like the use the use of the 20 mm deep socket for removal of the PCV valve and the careful hand start threading method such as turning the new valve counter.clockwise until it clicks before hand tightening. I just bought a 20 mm deep socket today.

    I have a 2003 Vibe which is the same as the Matrix and Corolla. I just went to my GM dealership in Toronto Canada and they knew exactly which PCV valve I needed based on my cars VIN#. The part they gave me was the exact part needed and it already had the right tefflon color "GREEN" that the OEM one on my car had and it only costed me 13$ Canadian. Had I went to a mechanic they would have charged me 60 to 80$ for the entire job and most likely used a cheap generic part instead. The entire job took me 5min. My old pcv valve was completely full of carbon and gunk but the ball inside still rattled a bit. Now that I know how easy this job is, I feel stupid all those times in the past with other cars that I went and paid someone to do it for me.

    • @NameItBuildIt
      @NameItBuildIt  6 років тому +2

      Awesome. Comments like these make all the hours I spend filming and editing worth it. And you are 100% correct. They always use generic parts which is a huge no-no for a part like this. It’s not their fault, they can’t stock every genuine part for every car, but some generic parts are very dangerous because they fail early and this can ruin your engine. I also would recommended mobil one synthetic oil and filter for this car. I’ll be uploading a video for this soon! Subscribe to see when I upload it :)

      I have 229,100 km on my 2004 Matrix XR and notice oil leaks along the valve cover and below. I just hope it's just the old valve cover gasket and not the head gasket gone bad. Oil consumption is like a liter over an 8,000 km oil change interval for Toyota synthetic. I don't think the PCV was ever changed. Hope changing the PCV and hose plus the valve cover gasket will resolve oil consumption issue.

    • @NameItBuildIt
      @NameItBuildIt  6 років тому +1

      I hope it works out for you. Try the PCV valve and the hose like I showed in this video because you hose will be clogged too. That might fix it and if not the after that the valve cover gasket should do it. Try the Right Stuff gasket maker I used in my other video also for the 2 parts that will need RTV gasket also. ua-cam.com/video/epxdfEOkSXs/v-deo.html You will see when you take it off and just make sure to scrape it off before reapplying and don’t score the engine block or valve cover whatever you do! Don’t use a razer blade if you have never done this Before because you will most likely scratch the engine then it will never seal properly. Good luck!!

      No I just meant to see if there were codes. If you can see live air fuel ratio then that might help. It could be a bad maf sensor or a bad O2 sensor. It could also be a problem with throttle body. Change your air filter also. I have other videos on the best one to get on my channel. That’s where I would start. These cars also are notorious for bad computers. By now your grounding cables are probably bad also. Check and replace them all including one under battery and a bad ground could cause a problem for the ECU or computer.

      Not sure if you’re asking me if changing a PCV valve would trigger a code, or if a bad PCV would throw one. Either way, all you have to do is look up that code I’m not familiar with it.

    I bought mine at Toyota .the one in my car uses 22m to pull it . They gave me one with pink lock .3\4 m pull the one they gave me .. can I put it in ?

      Absolutely not. That could ruin your engine by causing an air/vacuum leak! Bring it back when you can and exchange it for the right one but don’t go aftermarket. Make sure you get the correct OEM Toyota part. Usually they look it up by your VIN number so they should have got it right at Toyota. I believe the 22mm PCV valve is bigger, so you don’t want to put the smaller one you got in and air will go thru the opening around it.

      Oh man I’m so glad to hear that! Check out all my other Corolla videos. You will want to do an oil change, air filter, clean mass air flow sensor, and cabin air filter. It will be running and idling like new! Mine has 230,000 miles and it’s perfect. Let me know if you have any other questions 😎

      Awesome! 3 things these cars are known for failing - intake manifold gasket, fuel evap canister and the ecm ( computer). Your computer may have been changed out on a recall. If you get a check engine light and it thrown engine code for (charcoal) fuel vapor canister then change it. Double check the vin for your correct intake manifold gasket but you need the Orange one. The black one from factory rots and breaks. Orange is for life! While you have intake manifold off you can clean throttle body but DONT open the butterfly by hand, it will break it. This is only part you should need plus CRC throttle body cleaner. Like I said make sure the check VIN # for correct
      gasket and get it only from Toyota not aftermarket. amzn.to/2L9poVT only other thing serpentine belt and see if there is airbag recall while you talk to dealership. 😎

      I feel your pain, I have to take the wheel off and get under the suspension to do the PCV on my 2015 RAV4. I miss the old engines that ran forever, never had problems and we’re so easy to work on! 😎

      I don’t know if the threads are the same size so I would call Toyota and ask. Was it very hard to tighten or very loose?
