    I grew up listening to Dead Can Dance. I was in love with the album Aion when I was 10 years old. Still my favorite album of theirs. I also love Into the Labyrinth. Yulunga (Spirit Dance) is one of my favorite songs of theirs. My boyfriend thinks the music is weird... lol. I don’t really share this band with many, because most people think I’m weird when I recommend this type of music.

      You are totally NOT weird for liking and enjoying this music. Their music is beautiful in its uniqueness and spirit, which I think we all may hear differently, but it calls none the less, for those who are listening with open ears to their humanity.

    My son was in the womb the last time we saw them. It was at the Hollywood Bowl in 2005. I was standing behind my wife and holding her belly throughout the show. Every time Lisa sang, my son would kick and kick and kick. For his 15th birthday I bought tickets to see them again on my wife's birthday, which happens to fall on Mother's Day every few years. Covid cut that short, but I'm waiting and hoping they'll go on tour one more time so I can bring him and her to experience it again, now. Either way, thanks for the 30 years of being the soundtrack to many of my life's great memories.

    For a long time DCD follower like myself, the journey of their music is one of spiritual evolution. This record is completely different from Anastasis, but still part of the continuous exploration that Lisa and Brendan have shared with us for the last 30 yrs. It does take time to soak up the different musical environments that they create, but that's what the DCD experience is all about. Before you know it you're completely entranced!

    Dead Can Dance is a band for social and cultural awakening. We are blessed to have them among us and to celebrate the release of Dionysus in November 2018. The video touches some (maybe all) of their previous artwork in some mystical mixing of symbols. It invites us to return to ourselves and to reconnect with nature. There isn't "technopolis" in this song, and it sounds just like a logical continuation of Opium from Anastasis. I am proud as Bulgarian that Lisa used the Balkan/Bulgarian folklore way of singing not only in this track but in other parts of the album and in some of their previous albums. Her collaborations with The Mystery Of The Bulgarian Voices is well-known and fruitful. The harmonies between Brendan and Lisa's voices in this particular track " ACT II - The Mountain" are hard to be explained, they have to be felt. There is a huge amount of energy, catharsis and enlightenment in this track. The video is a dramatic representation of a life cycle. You feel you are collecting parts of some previous lives here. You are invited on a journey with: sources (water, sun, light), sacrifice (goat), death,(flower cut with a knife), connection (stone-faced humans), eyes, spider, hearts, colours, birds, circles, reflections, all connected in a trance-like dream. What a unicum of hyperreality!

This album is very cool, probably the best thing they've released since reforming, but their 80s-90s release are on a whole different plane of awesome. I particularly recommend 'Within the Realm of a Dying Sun', 'Serpent's Egg', and 'Aion'.

    Don’t mystify what doesn’t need mystifying. Great music doesn’t need the “divine”. Music is divine all on its own. Years of hard work and artistic preservation, exploration and dedication is why their music is so good. I have listened to their music change over many, many years and it’s wonderful because it’s made by humans, not gods or spirits or the divine.

      and what privileged position do you imagine you occupy to make such a pronouncement about the ultimate origins of their creativity?

    • @GrootsieTheDog
      @GrootsieTheDog 5 років тому

      Dream Delirium lol I absolutely agree. I guess that is my point. The universe as it is is incredible and truly “magical” without attaching gods or mysticism to the mix. I choose less poetic words than divine such as beyond comprehension, mysterious, unknowable, but yes, I understand just how amazing it is that the unthinking universe created beings that would ponder its existence. Or that a ball of fire we call the sun that has no mind is responsible for life that is capable of sending spacecraft to study it. Or that the universe doesn’t give two dog shits about us and the human race will most likely be a magnificently insignificant fly on that dog shit in the history of its existence.

      Bong Gnostic There is actually a lot of good science out there as to where and how we cultivate creativity and it’s both fascinating and at times, just boils down to hard work. As far as your straw man argument, I never alluded to knowing the ultimate origins of creativity but if I had to pinpoint our artistic genesis, I would say that it roughly occurred during the evolutionary process when our creative foraging and hunting skills that were essential to survive merged with our newly acquired intellectual capabilities.

    I’m quite convinced that the videoclips narrow the greatness of this incredible duo. Unlike most of the musicians, they are simply above this form of visual expression. No video can match their musical level.

    This is definitely a different album from what they have made. It’s an evolution though, it’s not a cut with the past, it’s just like an operetta, an academic exercise that came out as the finest example of what they are able to do to astound us. I believe they are not intending to play this live for that would only make sense if they played the whole album. Instead they plan on making a tour through their nearly four decades of genius, which is all the longtime people eagerly waiting for them would wish for.

    Cuesta realizar una crítica a Dead Can Dance, pero siendo muy objetivo, me quedó la sensación que fue demasiada producción videográfica en desmedro de la musical 📹 Sinceramente esperaba más para 6 años de silencio. Aunque para «Anastasis» esperamos 16 y tampoco se condijo su producción ni conmoción para tan larga espera. En rigor, Dead Can Dance no evolucionó más su sonido ni atmósfera en más de 20 años. Pero con el solo hecho de haberme cambiado la vida en los años 80s y comienzos de los 90s, cuando crearon esos mundos y esa impronta sacadas de una dimensión paralela, me doy completamente por pagado :’)

      Magie qui fait référence aux anciens cultes à Mystères de la haute Antiquité Grecque qui pratiquaient des rituels de sacrifices d'animaux et parfois d'etres humains . On retrouve dans le clip le phénomène de dissociation mentale présent aussi dans les anciens cultes à Mystères . L' image du bouc sensé représenter le dieu Pan est récupéré actuellement par les adorateurs Lucifériens qui pratiquent des abus rituels avec sacrifices d'enfants et du controle mental (Dissociation mentale avec création d'un Alter ou esclave ) Ces Lucifériens sont aussi de farouches partisans du N.O.M et de la Nouvelle Religion . Esthétiquement ce clip est très bien fait . Mais ma question est ce clip est-il une critique de ces rituels de sang ou une certaine forme de complaisance ?
