Great video Leonard. When using the screwdriver to release the retention mechanism - mine released by inserting the screwdriver in the same location but instead of pressing downward, I pried against the black plastic shield which released the catch. BTW, unfortunately there are different PNs for driver's & passenger's sides (the retention key is clocked differently). To locate the offending door, my lights didn't flicker at all when testing the doors (probably because the switches are inputs to the digital BCM as opposed to being an analog circuit). Autozone sells a connector that can be used in place of the vehicle' connector to test each switch (Duralast Door Ajar/Int Lamp Switch Connector, Autozone PN: 238); it fits perfectly but it's $16.
Probably the BEST video I have seen on this subject out of "ALL" these others-!!!! well planned out, concise & to the point with excellent viewing angles, (no asinine music or other irritating noises in the background) and it helped me fix my own related problem after spending too much time searching. Can't THANK YOU enough-!!! Do "YOU" have anything on the dash light LED replacement techniques by any chance-?
After replacing the one on my front drivers door for the 3rd time, I wrapped a paper clip in electrical tape, and super glued it into the plug you unplugged from the switch to create a jumper to actually solve the problem! This crap is the worst engineering feature I've come across in my 2003 Expe. When it shows "ajar" it keeps your interior lights burning and drains your battery. I hope they fired the idiot who designed these features. I've also replaced 1 on the passenger door. From now on when one goes bad, I'm jumping them out and removing them.
Great video! My RR door suddenly started showing ajar when closed, but the warning turns off when the door is open, ie acting in reverse of the way it should be. Any ideas on what's going on?
@spiritualak5147, My dome light stayed on so what I did was open and close each door to see which door made the dome light flicker or dim a little. The bad door switch wouldn’t make the dome light flicker or dim.
Hello Myers Auto Exchange, if I remember correctly, you have to look at the dome light while opening and closing each door. The dome light should flicker on the doors with the good switches. The bad door will be the one that doesn't cause the light to flicker when you open and close it. Thanks for watching.
Question: what if you simply unplug it? Is it possible to bypass it? Because I'm pretty sure I can tell when my damn door is open better than it can. I really dont need it. Unless my door is swinging open wide into oncoming traffic, I door really care if my door is ajar. Believe me, if it makes any kind of noise, I'll be aware of it and stop immediately. I certainly dont need a switch that tells me there is something wrong when there isnt. I dont know why ford goes so overboard with their warning indicators. My boyfriend's truck chimes incessantly because the airbag bulb is burned out. But you have to pull the dash out to fix it and who cares if the bulb is burned out? The airbag works. It is infuriating. I will never buy another ford as long as I live.
@@LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard Got it…I installed it back and figured out why my door wasn’t closing. Accidentally knocked the latch backwards. Took me a while to figure it out but got it done! Hey ... I think my latch release is broken off so I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to replace my door light ajar switch back together. Any suggestions you can help me out with?
@@LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard yes... It started raining on me so I put it all back...together to close the door.and now the window not going up or down.... When it rains on me it POURS.... Anthony Rice, you can try to do a google search on your problem. If you can’t find a solution online, then you may have to cut your door panel off from the inside to access the door linkage.
Is there a way to just disable it all together? cut a wire somewhere or short it together? I do not want to take the door apart for a door ajar nonsense... cars today have too many dang sensors - who ever needed this to begin with...

I had to replace the door ajar switch on this same door on my 2003 Ford Expedition. This was very helpful. Thanks.

Are the door jams different from the driverside and passenger side?
@Big Brad, yes they are.

how did u took off tha green clip. i cant take mine off
Hi Jose, the green clip doesn't have to come off. You just flip it over/up and then you can remove the rod.
Leonard Brown what do you mean by up flip it up/over? Bc I can't get the green thing off.
Hi Tyson, use a flat head screwdriver to move the green clip away from the rod. You don't have to remove it all the way off. It's on a hinge. Thanks.
