    Marc,
    I can't wait to try this. Thanks for taking seemingly difficult projects and making them look less daunting.

      I wish I could LIKE this video more than once! excellent detailed explanation of the processes. I love the idea of using the pin to secure the slide. I love puzzle boxes. I hope you create more, with additional hidden lock ideas

    The more I watch you the more I just wanna spread the knowledge and good techniques you have. Also I like how u implement the comedy sketch into the show. I'm surprised you don't have more views. I know you get a lot of praise but it's well deserved. I'm still looking for someone local that would want someone around just to help build and needs an extra hand for free so I can pickup on some skills. I'm just a hobbyist and they may never change my trade by day is a Flooring Contractor.

    Hi came across this video by chance, at first with the silly genie i thought OMG! but when it kicked into the box making, I was captured. I want to say Thank you. Your instructions and explanations were very clear, and Precise, and the whole video was easy to follow, and i enjoyed watching it. I also like the fact you explained about other alternatives, ie sanding and planning, which was excellent too!. So well done for an enjoyable video and i will be watching more, BTW the keep sake boxes are a great idea, for gifts and i think i will be trying to make a few of these myself... Once again Thank you!....

    Beautifully simple. One suggestion, instead of cutting the male out of the bottom blank, cut two female dove joints one top and one bottom, with an hour glass shaped piece to use as a joiner. Might be able to match the wood grain then, since you could use a thinner blank. Also you could use a darker piece of wood to highlight the joint. Just a different take...

    @mightywombat Never owned a DeWalt. But I started with a Makita. That was actually stolen from my garage. Jet sent me their saw which was nice for a while, and then Festool sent the Kapex. So I bounced back and forth between the two and ultimately settled on the Kapex.

    Hey there Marc. To drill the hole for for the pin and its hole in the corner bit, you only need to tape the corner bit to the lid from two directions and drill it all in one go ;-)

    @TheWoodWhisperer It's the Makita I was thinking of. That's crazy that someone straight up stole it out of your garage! I need to make friends with someone who gets really nice tools like Jet or Festool sent to them so that I can get their hand-me-downs! Or get myself sponsored by some company... somehow.... Gotta get my blog working for me!

  • @robira1313
    @robira1313 10 років тому

    To make the contoured box, did you shape it first, before the dovetails? At what point do you contour the sides or was it contoured after the box was "done".

  • @HairyButticus
    @HairyButticus 11 років тому

    Very cool, I was thinking you could inlay a Tic Tac Toe pattern on a square box and keep some wooden X's and O's in the compartment or even a basic Peg type game or both and give it as a gift to a child.

  • @bobbg9041
    @bobbg9041 5 років тому

    dumb idea but adds more pop to a box, cut a lot of parts glue them back up in a pattern or randomly then use that full size 12/4 blank Mix wood a lot of scrap pieces 1 and 2" thick parts that are over 24" long lay the parts at a 45dgr and hide the dovetail that way.

  • @gamerman6405

    FOR THAT HEART SHAPED PIN YOU COULD CUT IT ON THE ROUTER TABLE, JUST MAKE SUPPORTS THAT EVENLY HOLD THE LID AT THE CORRECT HIGHT OVER THE BIT AND RUN IT OVER. I'M SURE THERE IS A BIT THAT MAKES THAT SHAPE. OR YOU COULD CUT IT SQUARE FISRT THEN HAND SHAPE IT WITH CHISELS AND GOUGES. I'M SURE YOU ALREADY KNOW ALL OF THIS .

    Cool project! I'll have to remember that for this year's Christmas gifts. What you could do to spice it up is add some inlay banding. It isn't hard to make, even if you don't have a cnc, you could fairly easily do this with a router table and/or a table saw. Check it out (ua-cam.com/video/RkXjWW76FrY/v-deo.html).

    • @snickelman
      @snickelman 8 років тому

      Unfortunately i do....
      This "real" feminist nonsense is just funny, the majority of internet feminists follow the stereotype, but it is certainly wrong to generalize, though, i am fairly certain that if the tumblerite feminists saw that certain comment he made in the video, they would be pertty mad.
