    There seems to be a resurgence in comments complaining about the quality of track and whether it’s safe to carry nuclear waste on... first of all, there’s a 5-10mph speed limit on the line for a reason and secondly, a variation of this train has been running on this line for more than 40 years with absolutely no issues as far as I can recall. They wouldn’t be running it if it wasn’t safe to do so people!

      The long zooms make the track look worse than it is....

      You should link the old test video where they smashed a locomotive into those waste containers, even if something happened and the train slowly derailed or the wagon tipped over the container would be fine.

      From a basic physics principle, as long as those rails are held down at 1435mm between the vertical surfaces of the inside of the rails, and there is no danger of landslips (none evident) or sinkholes (unlikely), those containers were judged "good to go" and the whole video makes me proud of safety methodology.

    Dungeness B is still very much generating electricity, the flasks are under the white cover you can see on the vid, these trains carry spent fuel from the reactor to Sellafield up in Cumbria, all the low level stuff go's by road to Drig, don't worry about security as the lid on the flasks needs specialist kit to remove and weigh several tons, if you were daft enough to try and get in one the civil nuclear constabulary would be very interested very quickly and they are armed, if you did succeed in getting the lid off it would be all over even quicker.

      I don't think it is, but people still work there and the trains still need to take their low-level nuclear waste (gloves, hazmat suits etc.) to be disposed of.

      It branches off the mainline at Appledore, so if you follow the main road from there to Dungeness you will cross it, but there are a few quieter roads you can see it at.

      As a train driver, I can tell you that the loco is showing the correct frontal lights as it has it’s marker lights and daytime headlight illuminated. During the hours of darkness, the headlight on the other side would instead be illuminated. This is so if you are stopped at a signal, the nighttime headlight would light up the signal identification plate. I believe that newer trains may have both headlights on at all times, but am happy to be corrected on that point. As for the condition of the track, it would be in line with the permissible speed. A low speed branch line will not be to the same tolerances as a high speed mainline. Love the armchair expert comment. Very funny!🤣👍

    I used to think that they used 2 locos on such a short train because nuclear flasks were unusually heavy. Actually it's because the spent fuel cannot be left for too long so 2 locos reduces the possibility of train failure.

    State of the nation, infrastructure in tatters as we comply with euro commie demands.....Transporting highly radioactive spent fuel on tracks that look like they belong in sub-saharan africa. Overgrown and barely usable above a walking pace..... Class 37s look and sound fantastic though, great examples of British engineering. I’d feel better if they were traveling a bit quicker though. Used to listen to them at night moving coal from the Durham coast mines to Sunderland docks when I was a kid. I still love that sound. Highlight for me though was the once daily Intercity at 8-45pm using the Durham coastal track. Tracks were repaired properly then, and we weren’t relying on Norway for fuel for power stations. We should be on the streets protesting.....Bread and games people, or more accurately beer and television.

    Rail in Kent are you seriously saying our roads are better?! Lol they wouldnt spend all that money on moving suits and gloves by rail and then send the far more dangerous rods by road. I know this country is upside down and inside out but thats just silly and totally ilogical. Great vid though 😀

    Can anyone answer this question please: When two engines are pulling, how do the engines match their power output? Are these two engines working together? Thanks in advance.

    • @bignaughtydog
      @bignaughtydog 6 років тому

      Thanks for the reply Willie. Why do we need two engines to pull such a low weight load? Rail in Kent says its only low level stuff and therefore i'm guessing low weight so why two engines? How do i tag Rail in Kent in my posts? Thanks Willie. Love Rail in all its glory. Thanks for all your help in my communications. How do i tag Willie also :)

      Steve Carr two engines purely in case of a loco failure. These things can’t be left static on the line as a security risk and yes the locos are connected
