    hi Darren , great vids on the GC. I also have a Spice Orange and i'm going to language mod as in your video , i didn't know it was possible and that easy. Btw watching you over time you inspired me and i bought the same Stanley Screwdriver Set thanks mate.

      haha thanks. The Stanleys are nice to hold as they are wide with rounded handles. I have the whole set from Bunnings with the smaller jewellers set inside the lid of the box. Cheap and they absolutely do the job.

      @@RetroSalesAustralia yes i got the same set as you mention , i was going to get the cheaper Stanley set but after watching your videos i saw the handles and magnetic tips so i picked them up. Btw i don't know if it interests you but my mum saw at the Supermarket double strength vinegar , it's clear and double the strength over regular vinegar. I got her to grab some for corrosion and rust removal , you may want to pick some up yourself.

    Super simple and to the point. I have seen a few other tutorials with a switch to go back and forth between regions but, honestly I'm never going to play a japanese GCN. Pair this with an ODE and your golden. Have you looked at doing an hdmi mod?

    Hi. I just recently did the language mod on my Japanese Gamecube but it was my first time to solder so I ended up lifting both pads. In my frustration, I decided to remove the other two bridges (R5 and R39). I tested it out and was pleasantly surprised as the language was changed to English.

    I recommend putting Kapton tape in the areas close to where you are going to solder to prevent from accidentally desolder or adding solder to the wrong spots or surfaces.
    I worked with Gamecubes and Game Boys and messed things a lot before knowing about it.
    Also, I recommend adding a piece of Kapton covering the soldered areas just for additional protection before rebuilding the Gamecube back.
    Please, be very careful.

    Hi.
    I bought a spice orange GameCube.
    It does not have a switch on it.
    It plays USA games but the menu is still in Japanese.
    When a memory card is inserted, it asks to initialize format the card.
    Also sometimes the error code will pop up "An error has occurred Turn the power off and refer to the Nintendo Gamecube instruction booklet for further instructions".
    I want the system to play USA games, keep an English language menu and want that error to stop showing up here n there.
    Can you tell me what might be going on and how to fix it please ?
    Do you think it's a half way done mod gone wrong ?
    Thank you.
    Anybody knowledgeable please reply soon.

    • @voltazkai
      @voltazkai 2 роки тому +1

      If I were to guess, the console is NTSU-J console with a Xeno chip installed (allows drive to read all disk) AND no region change. This is why the menu is still Japanese. ANOTHER reason people do the region mod in addition to Xeno chip (plays all disc) is that the memory card save is also region locked...why Nintendo decided to region lock memory save...I dunno. So that's why you 're getting the memory card error.
      Easiest solution is to do a region change in this video if all you're playing is US games. Other is to do a switch to go back and forth between region.

      I know I'm pretty late to this comment but to answer your question yes. It doesn't matter which model it is. As long as it's either Japanese or US Gamecube, they can be modded to flip one way or the other or both. The only system you cannot modify is the PAL GameCube

    If you perform this mod, does it change the language or the region? Ie: if you have a NTSC-J Gamecube and you perform this mod, does this then stop the NTSC-J games working?

    • @RetroSalesAustralia
      @RetroSalesAustralia  3 роки тому +2

      So if you do this to a NTSC-J console like in the video, it effectively converts it to NTSC-U. Japanese games will no longer work. USA games will boot as normal. A
      Simple switch on the rear case allows you to toggle back n forth which is a nice solution.
