    I remember a moment in the first book where House Mars goes to negotiate with Mustang's house and Roque makes the grave mistake of speaking without Darrow's permission and Darrow shuts his "friend" down so soundly it's jarring. I think Pierce has done a great job portraying a character that is duplicitous and power hungry, but still likeable. The Darrow we meet in book 1 is him in his most 'honest' (as much as he can be) form. He's always been sly and power hungry, but we as the readers have obvious justifications for those characteristics. Yes, he's sly - he needs to be so he can deceive an entire society of slavers and help his people escape bondage. Yes, he's power hungry - but it's necessary for him to acquire the resources and influence needed to carry out Ares' plans and once again, free his people from bondage. We've always been able to justify his actions because they haven't been _that_ bad in comparison to his reasons. But then this scene happens and it brings what some might consider his worst traits to light.
    As a Slytherin fan, I think it's great. Hail Reaper!

    I was thinking on this earlier today while doing a reread of Iron Gold, but you guys should definitely do a dramatic reading of the part in the book where Lysander and co see the Holo of Darrow where he destroys the Docks of Ganymede.

      As the destruction rains, the Reaper turns from the viewport, his face a death mask of grief and pain, and I feel as if I hear his heart beat across the years, across the space, and know how far he’s come from the man he wanted to be.
      He reminds me of my godfather.
      While the room disintegrates into fury, I marvel at the boldness of Darrow’s charade, even at the shrewdness of his cruelty. In the last moment of his victory, he saw an opportunity to win a war against the Rim that had not even begun, and he took it with as bold a maneuver as I’ve ever seen. But it is certainty I feel, not respect or horror. This is the man I once idolized. An unpredictable gambler of savage intellect with a limitless capacity for violence. I respect his capabilities, but I do not respect the man. And here, in the wake of his destruction, I understand beyond a shadow of a doubt that to protect mankind, the Reaper must die.

      This is a great scene and a great suggestion. We'd like to bring a few more scenes to life!

      Hi Marlen, Absolutely! I've activated them and cleaned up the transcript so it should be translated a bit more smoothly for everyone.

      @@HailReaperPod is that a dramatic reading that you guys made or is it officially from an audiobook version of Morning Star?

    • @HailReaperPod
      @HailReaperPod  2 роки тому +3

      No, it's not from any of the audiobooks. It's all original voiceover work and sound design we produced to make the scene come alive the way we hear it in our heads.

      @@HailReaperPod that’s amazing, holy shiit. Would be insane if the audiobooks of Red Rising had that level of quality voice-overs and sound design. Are there any other podcast episodes where you guys have something similar?

    • @HailReaperPod
      @HailReaperPod  2 роки тому +3

      @@hafiz7611 Yes! We have a few. You can find our podcast wherever you listen to pods but also most of our episodes are on UA-cam. Check out the end of our Gala episode. The end of our Tactus episode. And finally our Nero episode. We do lots more sound design other than re-enactments but those episodes have pieces similar to what you already heard. Thanks so much and enjoy!
