thank you for the info! i have a super large and raggedy pink orchad cactus that i missidentified as a xmas cactus. anyways the craziest thing is my plant was giving me flowers on the most damaged of leaves, i mean were talkinn like fully barked up cactus leaves with holes. you would honestlty think it was dead but they still produced flowers
You have really helped me understand these exotic beauties. Most reading says it doesn't like full sun however you mentioned some sun. Can you specify what kind of sun they like? Filtered? Morning?
I’m happy to hear that :) Thank you for letting me know! They really like full morning sun or a few hours of full afternoon sun. They will do well in shade as well but they aren’t as good at blooming without a few hours of sun. I would just avoid the hot midday sun - that will most likely burn them. Hope that helps!
Hello. I love your videos. I bought one of these plants at a charity shop for £1 I didn't know what it was as it looked unimpressive. However after 12 months it's taking over the kitchen and shooting all over the place. I keep it in a window that gets the sun almost all day and at night it sits behind a draw blind which gets cold. So everything you've said ticks the boxes. It's not flowered yet. How soon into maturity will I expect to see it flower?
Thank you :) That’s so nice to hear! It should flower anytime by the sounds of it- mine started forming it’s first buds when it was still a little rooted cutting but it blasted the buds because I moved it… now I never move it once it starts forming flower buds and it blooms well :)
Do you take the top cup off to mist the cutting while you’re waiting a month for it to root? Great video by the way. I got a cutting 4 years ago from my friends acupuncture teacher. I left it in water for a year and now it’s my favorite plant. It’s doing really well but I feel like I need to chop and prop a bit since it’s lanky. How do I know what variety I have ?
I do take the top cup off to mist every so often to keep it moist inside. It’s hard to know what variety you have unless the person that gave it to you knows what it is - there are so many different varieties!
What a cute dog! You mentioned that some of the cuttings in the group of 10/12 in the water had roots growing out of the top, can't you plant the end with the roots in the soil already and they would take hold? I'm curious why you would keep the ones that have roots already in the water. I have some that I cut but have these roots coming out of the top now and I was tempted to just put them in soil topside and see how it goes, have you tried this?
Thank you :) Yes you could plant them that way and I am sure that they would take hold and grow although I have not done it that way specifically… in this case I kept them in the water without planting them right away because I didn’t have room in my grow area for the cuttings. Keeping them in water keeps them good indefinitely and I potted them up once I had the time and space to house them :)
Thank you :) I buy it at the local garden centres - they usually sell it everywhere they sell potting soil... I’ve even seen it in grocery stores in the plant section!
Do you have a video showing how you transplant to pots? Do you cut the cup off so not to disturb roots and how many cuttings do you put per pot? many thanks
This video does show the process and it’s pretty easy- once they have roots, or even before they develop roots, just stick them in some soil and they should do fine :)
Victoria Brown Frank thank you :) I’m glad you enjoyed it! You should try looking on eBay for cuttings - there are quite a few places in the US that sell them online :)
Hi there :) I don’t think it makes a difference. When I do a bunch of small cuttings I don’t pay attention which side is up or down and they always grow ;)
West Coast Garden Guy Hi there ! 😃 Thank You for replying . I just bought some Epi cuttings and I’m currently letting them dry out . So I’m wondering what to do . 🤷🏻♀️
bonjour je voudrai savoir j'ai récupéré une bouture d'epiphyllum et je l'ai mise dans un peu d'eau pour faire des rassine et se que j'ai bien fait merci de me répondre
Mine had a bloom form the first few months after I propagated it (when it was still a young cutting) but it aborted because I moved the plant so I think that most plants can bloom within the first year if you give them the right conditions
Keep it well watered and don’t let it become too dry for too long. I keep mine well watered and let it dry out a bit in between. Also, Put it somewhere where it gets some cool night temps and warm days. I put mine outside in the spring when the risk of frost is over and leave it out in the fall. If you don’t have a place outside you can put it, try a cool room that gets lots of light. Good luck!
The leaves grow in different shapes; some are flat some are like 3-D, and some are pencil wide and shape. Can they all be propagated? Did you find out any information about the spines growths someone asked about? Also, my plant gets so top heavy and unruly with new growth. Should I just cut the new leaf that is growing on top of the first leaf? I have never gotten more than one or two flowers a yr. I will have to try some of your suggestions about the cooling and I think I might need to water more often. Thanks for all this information.
I purchased a pink flowering variety. Growing mine inside, it's growing a lot. Waiting for it to mature to see pretty pink flowers.
Let me know how it goes :)

That’s amazing! Yes they are pretty resilient plants :)

Thank you for all of your tips & knowledge you’ve been so good to pass on to us. It was so shocking to see they can be rooted in water😜

My cousin's garden. Natural beauty is beautiful.
:)
I love all your different color epiphyllum I only have one it's the pink color one but I'd live to have all the colors you have 💕💗
Thanks Karen :) I have to say that despite having a lot of different colours, the pink one is my favourite out of all of them!
Can I hv some .leaves pls...by post? I m fr Malaysia. I hv white ones only.

Puppy! Thx for video, was informative
You’re welcome ☺️
cutest doggo.
Very good video, I love those plants but I don't think I have enough light for them.
They are surprisingly easy to grow- you should try one and see ;)
Hola que hermoso color de cactus
Hola! Gracias :)
Beautiful epiphyllium orchid cactus, and where do you buy soil cactus succulent mix thanks bro
Thank you :) I buy it at the local garden centres - they usually sell it everywhere they sell potting soil... I’ve even seen it in grocery stores in the plant section!
Thanks you bro
Do you have a video showing how you transplant to pots? Do you cut the cup off so not to disturb roots and how many cuttings do you put per pot? many thanks
You can pull it right out of the pot! The roots are not delicate
This video does show the process and it’s pretty easy- once they have roots, or even before they develop roots, just stick them in some soil and they should do fine :)
I have a question can you put different varieties in one planter?? So you'll have multi colors in one pot????
Wow thank you it was very informative
Thank you 😊👍🏻 I’m glad you liked it!
Thank you for your tips on growing these. I have my first one it's a German empress. I would like to add to my collection do you share your cuttings?
Yes I do - If you are in Canada I sell them on eBay sometimes when I have them available :)
@@westcoastgardenguy1990 so sadly I live in the states. But truly thank you I learned a lot from your video.
Victoria Brown Frank thank you :) I’m glad you enjoyed it! You should try looking on eBay for cuttings - there are quite a few places in the US that sell them online :)
How much do you sell the cuttings for? Loved your vedios.💝
Thank you :) I appreciate that! I usually sell them for between $10-$20 depending on the size…
Thank you I love you vedeo
Thank you 🙏🏻 😊
What does it mean if your orchid cactus starts getting tiny little hairy thorns
I was told it may be a hybrid
Good question but I’m not sure about that question to be honest. Perhaps it does mean that it is a hybrid - I will have to look into that!
Have you given your Epiphyllum a rest period in the winter?
Lily Astley no not really - I just bring it inside from my patio over the winter
Did You stick them in the soil upside down ? Or it doesn’t matter ? Thank You ! 😃
Hi there :) I don’t think it makes a difference. When I do a bunch of small cuttings I don’t pay attention which side is up or down and they always grow ;)

Beautiful is this the same plant as Christmas cactus?
Thank you :) No this is a different plant than a Christmas cactus
Hi I grown but topped one getting dried and you got pink one when did you get from I got white one.
My friend gave me a cutting of her plant.
Do you let the cacti callous over regardless of what propagation method you use
Yes I do try and let the ends dry and callous over whichever way I propagate :)
Do I take cuttings from the flat leaves or flat and three sided leaves ?
In my experience it doesn’t really matter. Both will root equally well.
bonjour je voudrai savoir j'ai récupéré une bouture d'epiphyllum et je l'ai mise dans un peu d'eau pour faire des rassine et se que j'ai bien fait merci de me répondre
Good luck :) hope your cutting put out some nice roots!
Do you water these while waiting for roots?
Yes I always keep the well watered :)
Did you bring your Epiphyllum in yet this year?
No not yet- it’s still outside
I have never been able to make it bloom again.
Try to give it as much light as you can and it needs cool nights in order to bloom
I lije..how to buy??
Try eBay! Or google epiphyllum for sale :)
How long after propagation until it flowers?

West Coast Garden Guy Thank you so much I will try that.🌼
Cacti is the plural.
Wall of Fire thanks :)
Is that a south facing window?
It is south east facing

Cacti. Plural. Sorry.
