    that play at 8:06. notice jordan's awareness of his defenders and how quickly and naturally he reacted to them. this has not be stressed enough in popular sport media these days. aside from most other aspects of the game that jordan did better than any stars in today's nba, these two attributes of his are far and ahead of anyone else came after him.

  • @IanLEAU
    @IanLEAU 6 років тому +35

    This guy was so ahead of his time, no one in the 90s knew how to deal with this kind of skillset. There was a vast gap between him and whoever number 2 was due to the fact he had every facet of the game covered from head to toe. The way he played then would still be a HUUUUUUUGE problem to guard even today, no one knows how to guard against a pinch post player, backing down from 15 feet and there are very few players that have excelled as the best offensive and defensive options as well - M.J has not only be efficient on both ends, he's also been the best on both ends in the same year (probably more than once in his career too).

    • @boogieloo1831
      @boogieloo1831 5 років тому +7

      IanLEAU - nobody would be able to deal with him today. They would have twice as hard a time today trying to stop him. Today's defense has zero chance.
      No physical defense, wide open paint with no shot blockers patrolling the middle and non stop foul calls on even the illusion of contact - these things today would make it 10X harder to defend MJ today.

    • @unknowndriver6652
      @unknowndriver6652 5 років тому +2

      Woow great explanation , nobody today or before jordan hS had the same talent and arsenal of moves that jordan had.. i dont find nobody that come even close today to play like him he was super gifted

    • @mskidi
      @mskidi 5 років тому +7

      Purely objectively dropping this 35 year old version of MJ in modern NBA would be unfair for the league. Jordan was putting on the whole display for a reason. When he got past his marker, there would be a double coming and after that there would be a big guy waiting under the rim. So he had about 40 moves and about 20 variations for each and then there would be his instict and on the spot craftiness. Now place a modern NBA defensive setting against him. He grabs the ball and gets past his defender instantly with his first step....well that about ends it because there is nobody else waiting for him.
      Now a 1984-1993 version of MJ would have gotten banned from the league for being too much of an animalistic savage.

      Mitch Jr Where did this narrative that Jason Terry/Jason Kidd "locked up LeBron" in the 2011 Finals come from? If you watch those Finals, not only was Marion (great defensive player) James' primary defender, the Mavs also did a really good job of playing zone against Miami, because at that point the Heat didn't have the type of zonebusting sharpshooters that later iterations of the team did (think Mike Miller, Shane Battier, Ray Allen). NBA fans tend to revel in stupid, baseless, reductive narratives rather than actually thinking about the X's and O's of the game in an intelligent, nuanced way. The game and your fandom/consumption of it would be a lot healthier and frankly more enjoyable if you started thinking about the game in that manner.
