Well, not even Triakis can get away with cheating at the end of the FX300 because of their reverse-inertia deceleration system, which was illegal. So much for everyone trying to catch the strongest-shielded ship which suddenly became so fast and agile. Literally “chasing the rabbit”.
Worst part is that it wasn’t even initially illegal. There was no rule against it. Triakis just thought: hey this tech could be useful in AG racing. Instead of encouraging other teams to experiment with similar technology, the league outright decided to make the tech illegal out of the blue, robbing Triakis of what I see as a pretty legitimate victory for a first timer
I honestly would love to see a movie based around the rise of AG Systems, it wouldn't be beyond Hollywoods abilities to make a good movie about Pierre Belmondo (it might be beneath Hollywood but it's definitely not beyond). if i'm honest I just want to see the Wipeout ships made with Hollywood standard CGI, just imagine it! or better yet imagine if they made a physical model :O
Nah, would be dumbed down to oblivion to appeal to as many people as possible. Hollywood is one giant cash-in lol. European or Asian cinema would be far better suited.
Honestly, I don't think a movie would be the way to go; a Netflix series would probably do this more justice, because it gives you more of a chance to really go in depth with the lore of the world Wipeout has crafted.
I just love how you got the music from the games very much matching each teams' personality. Especially AG S, Qirex RD, Assegai D, Triakis I and Mirage were very good fits, top job!
Still coming back to this every now and again. I love WipEout lore so much, and the fact that you've summed it up in such a great way, just makes it all the more enjoyable to watch/listen through.
Fantastic video, I'm completely obsessed with this series right now. The backstory is so completely in-depth that I'm starting to think the series was actually created by a time traveller... or someone from a parallel universe.
Feisar has always been my favourite since entering the franchise with HD Fury because of it's accessibility and ease of use. Although Goteki 45 is my favourite to say (am I the only one who likes to say "Feisar. Auricom. Goteki 45. Triakis." every once in a while?).
I love how the Quirex ship represents the aggressive nature and financial muscle of the team. While it's not a top-contender in any particular discipline, their ship has practically no flaws. The sold top-speed coupled with good acceleration secures a good mid-field position at the beginning of a race, the handling allows them to tackle even highly technical tracks with no real issues and the heavy weight together with effective shielding makes it very difficult to stop a Quirex ship in its advance.
+Seth Abercromby I've always enjoyed the older, bulkier models, you really feel the aggression through the handling, their high speed low handling build makes you feel unstoppable once you master it.
The different leagues represent the different eras of AG racing, like the F3600, F5000, etc. Racing seasons occur annually within these leagues. The one that collapsed was the F9000 (Fusion era) following mass corruption within the league organisation. There was actually an amateur league set up after Fusion called the FX150, which led to the FX300 being formed in Wipeout Pure. The upcoming fan-game SlipStream GX is set in the FX150.
So, I just found this video while looking for the soundtrack and boy, am I glad I did! This feels fresh and so informative, especially considering that the info does not get through from the game itself. This sounds like a proper documentary, the voice and delivery doubles that feeling and I love it! Also, the video itself does Not feel 12 years old at all, this feels like it came out a few days ago and to me, that really shows the quality of the production!
I always thought AG-Systems was one of main contenders in the league, their aircraft handling is agile and feels intuitive, its special weapon that brings opponent's shield down is a stroke of genius, one sneeze and you're out of the race.Anyways, this is a top notch presentation, your narration has done an excellent job to make it believable.
This would have meant that AG Systems were just as violent as Goteki 45 and Tigron, despite the weaker shielding. In fact, their superweapon in 64 (a missile that completely destroys all their shield energy and will leave even a solid ram to eliminate them), inspired that of Tigron’s in the F9000.
I just started playing WipEout Omega Collection on the PS4 a few weeks ago. It's my first WipEout game and I had no idea what I've been missing out on. Thank you for making this video and compiling all this lore!
I ordered Wipeout 3 on Amazon (yes I said Amazon. More reliable than EBay any day so if possible even if it’s more expensive I get my retro games from Amazon) That’s gonna be my first game. Was thinking of getting Fusion until I saw how ugly the ships are. Still thinking of getting Pulse now
I absolutely love watching your coverage on the Wipeout series, Hellfire. I always liked the series before but your wonderful videos (and your presentation being so nice and interesting) really make me appreciate the lore and work put into this futuristic racing series. Glad that you're back to doing videos with the PS4 Omega Collection being out (in fact, it reminded me to buy it in the first place since I forgot about it over the course of the year). I'll be sure to check out whatever content you may bring out.
Haha, geez. I only played Wipeout 2097/XL and 3, but knowing all of this is awesome! I really had no idea that there was this much to it all. Then again, my last PS system was the PSX... This really makes me want to go out and grab a PS2 and 3. Great video man, I'm not even halfway through it and I'm loving it all. Really had no idea that others knew/cared enough about this game to do something like this for it.
Gaster77 That’s more of Tigron. Triakis would be like: “Catch me if you can”, considering their ships are very fast, have the strongest shielding, and were unbeatable in the FX300 until it was discovered that they used an illegal device on their ship, which disqualified them.
This game is one of my all time favorites, I can remember in 1996 playing it at a booth in Cream, didn't need to hear the game sound with Paul Oakenfold playing a massive set downstairs. I wish they would bring it back on next gen.
When it's about Wipeout, I tend to take things a bit too seriously. ;) This video you've made, my goodness, I've spent so many nights thinking the teams' backgrounds up. I only learned about the series in 2008 but I've played all entries from Wipeout to Wipeout Pulse. To this day I still didn't get a chance to have a go with HD, Fury and 2048. But I've never let go of the inspiration that Wipeout brings to me. Only those truly in love with the spirit of racing can make a game series like that.
never heard of wipeout and only got the game after that period of time when the psn went down and they offered hd/hdfury for free. I am so glad I got a chance to play that amazing game. after besting hd I went ahead and bought pure and pulse on my psp. Later I got a vita and 2048 was my #1 game I wanted above all else. When I learned the fate of Liverpool I was furious. I keep hoping that one day we will get another game. thank you 4 the video hard to believe there's so much history in such a simple game.
.. I.. didn't know that about the teams. I only knew a small smidgeon, as I jumped into wipeout with pure and pulse for the PSP.. this was very educational in the fictional world that is Wipeout.. I wish they made a new game! more racing games like this need to be made!. Thanks for the vid!
Thank you very much for your Videos! I love Wipeout and played HD very much as a kid on my PS3. Everything looks so Beautiful, and the sound design is AAA. So sad, it had to die
With the Omega Collection heading to PS4 and the return of Van Uber, you might have to add in their re-emergence to the FX350. Always love watching this video!
The good thing is, unlike Tigron and G-Tech who were completely wiped out by the fall of the F9000, Van-Uber's disappearance was much more ambiguous. The idea of the company folding was simply because there was no official explanation, leaves plenty of room for speculation :)
Half way through, and I have to say this, FANTASTIC VIDEO! Can't praise you enough for how well edited and thought through you have done this! Great job!
Excellent video. I love hearing about the world that surrounds a game. Makes me wish for some tie-in novels though. There's certainly enough machinations to write about. :)

@@gbalao8885yeah, me too, waiting for a Thailand AG Team, i can imagine team's name as RTAGRO (Ar-Tag-Ro) (short for Royal Thai Anti-Gravity Racing Organization)

Just a quick note, sure Omaar Kumala was offered a bonus for aggression on the track and destroying auricom ships in F9000, but wasn't his manager saying that he get's his own diamond farm if he manages to make "Daniel Johnson lose his stupid smile." Just referring from the original manual. Otherwise, really nice history lesson, helped me fill a few gaps I couldn't explain on my own.
It's the other way round. Direct from the manual: "Omarr Khumala's aggression bonus should be in his account by Thursday. Further money will be coming if he can wipe the smirk off Daniel Johnson's face and we'll buy him his own diamond farm if he puts Auricom out of business for good."
I looked up the original english version of the manual, you were right, my bad. But in the german manual, it was translated like I wrote, funny. But by the way, what is your favourite AG-Racing team? I myself, can't help it to be a FEISAR pilot, though it is always considered as the rookie ship/team. Really the Piranha too, but but overall, FEISAR.
Great video. I'd never bothered researching Wipeout's mythology because of the websites and manuals being scattered about-- it all seemed a little overwhelming. Thanks for bringing all that great backstory together and in one place.
Am I the only one here that thinks the F9000 season would make for a good movie? I mean, it is technically possible now that Studio Liverpool has been shut down
some of the people from Studio Liverpool are now making their own game, which is heavily inspired by wipeout called Formula Fusion :-) so that could perhaps happend.
R8 Games have nothing to do with Studio Liverpool. A few of their team once worked on Wipeout 3 as part of Psygnosis Leeds, that's their only link to Wipeout.
This was an awesome video man well done, i wish the game itself presented this kind of history and importance as it would make such a difference in the gameplay in my opinion. Instead of just ship skins essentially, each team/company has weight behind your allegiance. Love It.
The stories finish off with essentially the predictions for the future, based on statements from each team which will obviously be biased. Flaubert and McQueen both worked for AG Systems and were dismissed at the same time, but it was always Flaubert's intention to start her own AG team when she left whereas McQueen only did it in response to her after finding Qirex Industries were willing to accommodate him. That took a long time. Their rivalry manifests in the teams they left behind.
First of all, amazing video man, good work! As a massive fan of all of the wipeout games, I thought this video was brilliant, and I’ve watched through quite a few times now. Great to have the story put together like this and it really gets the imagination going. I just really wish wipeout could continue on to the ps5. I have loved the games ever since the original on the playstation 1. I have always thought a film or series animated or live would be amazing, or even a graphic novel or comic book series. I’m surprised someone hasn’t already done it something like this even as fan art. I’m currently playing wipeout omega collection vr, which is what brought me to this video in 2021, and the vr is one of the best be experiences I’ve had yet and definitely does justice for the game.
Gods, I love these games so much, but still... FEISAR FOR LIFE! AG Racing as pure as you're gonna get it! ... With props to my boys in Auricom. Because they ensure that AG Racing is still pure.
the amount of expanded lore this series has is incredible i always enjoyed reading through the manuals. I wish they tied it into gameplay though a arcade mode for each team similar to how fighting games have for each character would have been amazing.
The Icaras / Pir-hana rivalry was always bittersweet for me. I ran Pirhana in F9K exlusively, but when the F7200 league came around I had to jump ship to Icaras. I still looked fondly back at the red crafts as I passed them, though.
The way you tell the timeline and lore makes it feel so tangible, I'm very excited for the 2040's when Pierre finally invents AG technology in real life
thank you for posting this(i know its an old video) sadly due to not having a playstation since the playstation 2 its been hard to keep track but since i am getting a playstation 4 soon and Wipeout Omega looking this up has been interesting and helpful
@@KnjazNazrath You mean that tower in New York that was omitted due to limited hardware power at the time of release and the in-lore reason was because it went down in a terrorist attack which just so happened to be 9/11?
I've always thought it ironic how the characteristics of Auricom's and Qirex's ships swapped around Fusion and Pure. In the PS1 games Auricom was the well-rounded, jack of all trades in performance (with an emphasis on mass), while Qirex emphasized top speed and shields and lacked maneuverability. However since Pure, Auricom is more of a top speed and shields ship with less agility while Qirex is more well-rounded with an emphasis on shields and mass.
Was wondering if you would update this video series with the recent Omega Collection ships from Van Uber and Tigron. Also do a parallel story on the BallisticNG teams :)
It’s funny how Auricom was hated by every other team in the F9000 league, but got the last laugh. The only thing not mentioned is Pascal Rouser got them a season win in 2168 before they backed out and focused on public transport in North America. This move allowed them to survive the Fall of the F9000 better than anyone. Most everyone else either folded or merged, even juggernaut Pirahna had to lose Assegai to stay alive
Lets just take a moment of realization, Pier Bell mando founded AG-Systems(best team :D) in 2017, and according to this video he died around the time of the F9000 which is in like 2160!!!! How did he live so long?!?!?!??!! Unless Hellfire is just mentioning it, during the part when he's talking about G-Tech

***** to be honest it is unlikely that Hollywood will do it, but just imagine how great it'd be if they did!
Hollywood wouldn't do it justice. An indie project of passion would be far far better.
Splozy Hollywood could but they would need to find a clued in director and a studio that won't just see it as a giant cash-in
Nah, would be dumbed down to oblivion to appeal to as many people as possible.
Especially AG S, Qirex RD, Assegai D, Triakis I and Mirage were very good fits, top job!
any idea what the triakis song is?

Still coming back to this every now and again. I love WipEout lore so much, and the fact that you've summed it up in such a great way, just makes it all the more enjoyable to watch/listen through.
I really love this as someone who also likes Formula 1 racing
I like F1 too xD
Somebody should make a movie with all this plot, there's so much potential =OO
- You're bloody well right ! I've been pondering on the idea for some time now

lol please let me know if you get anywhere, I'd be most intrigued to see your first trailer lmao
I wrote a great screenplay about WipeOut but lost it through the years.
camron cravaughn you should try recreating it that would be awesome!
A series would actually be better
I like the guy who founded icaras. He died in a balloon accident. He swallowed one at a children's party. I cracked up the first time a heard that.
Sam Garncarz I like Goteki as well. just cause carnage and don't give a fuck before they reformed and decided to become more serious.
Goteki is my favorite personally, I like their craft the best.
I have a hard time deciding between Feisar and Piranha. Qirex I have always had a difficult time with.
Dylan McKaig when I first started playing WipEout on the PSP (Pulse), I chose Piranha just because of the ship's looks.
@@mental263 I like about every team, but I would main Triakis in Battle Mode because it has the strongest shield.
Seriously great stuff in this vid, you've given me a new appreciation of Wipeout. And my appreciation was already pretty damn high.
Dam, i had no idea the Wipeout lore was so well thought out XD
I mean for a racing game, it's really well done i'd say
Just had a terrible day at uni, I sat down at my laptop and saw this masterpiece. You're my hero man.
Spirel Phea I learned to love the brawly nature of the newer models, but the old ones had their charm as well.
Wasn't Aurocom formed in 2048 cause of WipeEout 2048
Antonio Benitez
Auricom was founded in 2046, two years before the inaugural season of the AGRC in 2048.
+Spirel Phea It was 2025 actually
The different leagues represent the different eras of AG racing, like the F3600, F5000, etc. Racing seasons occur annually within these leagues. The one that collapsed was the F9000 (Fusion era) following mass corruption within the league organisation. There was actually an amateur league set up after Fusion called the FX150, which led to the FX300 being formed in Wipeout Pure. The upcoming fan-game SlipStream GX is set in the FX150.
I knew it!
I like how the FX300 in the lore was founded by Natasha Belemondo
Bro I am watching in 2021
This would have meant that AG Systems were just as violent as Goteki 45 and Tigron, despite the weaker shielding.
"He died in a bizarre balloon accident"
"Oh no! What happened?"
"He swallowed one at a children's party"
That's my favourite part 😂
Van Über: racing the right way
Triakis: destroy everything
Gaster77 That’s more of Tigron.
Triakis would be like: “Catch me if you can”, considering their ships are very fast, have the strongest shielding, and were unbeatable in the FX300 until it was discovered that they used an illegal device on their ship, which disqualified them.
More like F7200-era Goteki-45
I just noticed how you incorporated the Triakis glitch in Pure as reverse-inertia deceleration system. Love it.
That was actually official backstory put in for Pulse! it was a good bit of lampshading :)
Whoa.
This game is one of my all time favorites, I can remember in 1996 playing it at a booth in Cream, didn't need to hear the game sound with Paul Oakenfold playing a massive set downstairs. I wish they would bring it back on next gen.
+Richard Oliver If you've not heard of formula fusion, it's looking to be a valient effort to bring AG racing back to the new generation.
+Spyrelle Phea There's also Slipstream GX
BloodstainDew
Slipstream GX has slowed it's development to a near hiatus extent.
I know this is late but you know Pulse was meant as a PS3 title right?
@@wieldylattice3015 Pretty sure just about every Wipeout game past Pure is a refried taco.
.. I.. didn't know that about the teams. I only knew a small smidgeon, as I jumped into wipeout with pure and pulse for the PSP.. this was very educational in the fictional world that is Wipeout.. I wish they made a new game! more racing games like this need to be made!. Thanks for the vid!
It's 2019 and there STILL isn't a Feisar or AG Systems to be seen xD
Thats because FEISAR is planned until 2036 and AG systems is now planned to be funded at 2040.
Yup
The founder of AG Systems drops out of college this year.
Thank you very much for your Videos! I love Wipeout and played HD very much as a kid on my PS3. Everything looks so Beautiful, and the sound design is AAA. So sad, it had to die
Imagine Wipeout adapted into a novel?
With the Omega Collection heading to PS4 and the return of Van Uber, you might have to add in their re-emergence to the FX350. Always love watching this video!
The good thing is, unlike Tigron and G-Tech who were completely wiped out by the fall of the F9000, Van-Uber's disappearance was much more ambiguous. The idea of the company folding was simply because there was no official explanation, leaves plenty of room for speculation :)
We should get some theories goin Hellfire!
SOswim1 Wait, Van-Über is back in the Omega Collection?? I haven't heard of that
BurnoutSonicGaming Van Uber and Tigron have been confirmed for the Omega Collection
SOswim1 Oh, I haven't seen anything about Van-Über, all I've seen was the trailer about the new Tigron K-VSR ship. Where was Van-Über mentioned?
It just kills me that we seemingly won't get another Wipeout game :/ Makes me as sad as the fate of the Motorstorm series..
There exists rumours of a reboot given a listing
Half way through, and I have to say this, FANTASTIC VIDEO! Can't praise you enough for how well edited and thought through you have done this! Great job!
man, you deserve a gold medal from wipeout team for doing this outstanding video.
GOOD JOB.
You know the history behind that one, right? It was pretty clever of them slipping that into the backstory :)
Feisar and AG-S Founded 2017. Keeping a look out for hover tech development
Emily HellKat If you watch the WipEout 2048 AG Feisar doesnt exist till 2048
They don’t exist until 2036(FEISAR) and 2040(Anti-Gravity Systems
Excellent video. I love hearing about the world that surrounds a game. Makes me wish for some tie-in novels though. There's certainly enough machinations to write about. :)
+Pedro Lambrini Tie in novels or comics would be pretty sweet, honestly!
+Spyrelle Phea Yeah, it really would be pretty sweet. :)

I always thought harimau was one of the badasses of the teams, knowing they are kind of outsiders makes me love them even more XD
39:38
It just dawned on me, but I LOVE that you've added lore to why Triakis was absolutely busted in Pure, as well as the nerfs it received in Pulse
Direct from the manual:
"Omarr Khumala's aggression bonus should be in his account by Thursday.
Greybox48
If youre throwing the favourite team question out for anyone to answer.
My Favorite (actually "favorites") would be Mirage and Goteki 45
Greybox48 Not a split-hull fan then.
Spirel Phea Whoops, sorry! replied to the wrong person, my bad!
Great video. I'd never bothered researching Wipeout's mythology because of the websites and manuals being scattered about-- it all seemed a little overwhelming. Thanks for bringing all that great backstory together and in one place.
Am I the only one here that thinks the F9000 season would make for a good movie?
I mean, it is technically possible now that Studio Liverpool has been shut down
+Spearka Perhaps.
Yeees you bet it would !
some of the people from Studio Liverpool are now making their own game, which is heavily inspired by wipeout called Formula Fusion :-) so that could perhaps happend.
R8 Games have nothing to do with Studio Liverpool. A few of their team once worked on Wipeout 3 as part of Psygnosis Leeds, that's their only link to Wipeout.
What is the soundtrack on the background while you cover the Mirage team?
I like triakis better
Pfft... FEISAR peasant... AG Systems for life.
The Auricom Way! 💪
I like how you think
@GunlockerGlock Auricom*
the amount of expanded lore this series has is incredible i always enjoyed reading through the manuals. I wish they tied it into gameplay though a arcade mode for each team similar to how fighting games have for each character would have been amazing.
I wish you mentioned the 2164 temtesh bay disaster. I got pretty interested in it when i read it on the wipeout wikia.
As a film student, I plan to write a concept script based on that.
The Icaras / Pir-hana rivalry was always bittersweet for me. I ran Pirhana in F9K exlusively, but when the F7200 league came around I had to jump ship to Icaras. I still looked fondly back at the red crafts as I passed them, though.
Pierre Belmondo was born in January 2004. Since he formed AG Systems in 2017, does that make him the world's youngest international project manager?
It wasn't actually founded until 2039.
If he was born in 2004 as real, then in 2020, he would be 16 years old.
This is amazing quality for a 2012 video, impressive, and very informative.
The only one I ever played was Pure, but that didn't mean I didn't have a ton of fun playing.
P.S. Feisar for life
Watching in Dec 2020. Great series!
Feisar was founded this year!!! WOOHOO!!!
16:29 oh this was my babe, I remember the shape and color of this vehicle and I used to play with it alot! Such memories!
Its typical F1 drama style stories ;p
The way you tell the timeline and lore makes it feel so tangible, I'm very excited for the 2040's when Pierre finally invents AG technology in real life
About time that this game gets a major Release again. Until then there's RedOut.
thank you for posting this(i know its an old video) sadly due to not having a playstation since the playstation 2 its been hard to keep track but since i am getting a playstation 4 soon and Wipeout Omega looking this up has been interesting and helpful
I think it's fitting for Icaras to break away from FEISAR in the WipEout universe. Given that they broke away from the EU in the real world.
It's called "prescient storytelling". Anyone who's played the original Deus Ex will go on aboot that for ages.
@@KnjazNazrath You mean that tower in New York that was omitted due to limited hardware power at the time of release and the in-lore reason was because it went down in a terrorist attack which just so happened to be 9/11?
@@bluesrikeMoreso the Daedalus conversations and Grey Death tbh.
Great vid.
Coming from Australia I am supposed to be Team Triakis but Feisar has always been my fave!
Well, Qirex in the FX-300 is not the same as the F-7200 team, okay
Great game, great music, and *Deepest Lore.* I love this game series ❤️
ThaPlaya28 possibly, due to advanced medical technologies increasing life expectancy.
Or... he could have just been drinking alkaline water his whole life.
The world may never know. (But I'll put my money on medical advances)
Healthcare and the advancement of medicine through technology has evolved in the WipEout timeline, therefore allowing for longer lifetimes.
Excellent work man! great music, cool back stories, great visuals. and solid delivery. If I were one of the people working on the games at SL i'd be as proud as hell to see something like this, not to mention impressed.
feels that icaras was a bit of a joke with the game writers poking fun at GB
That seems to be a running gag in history, even Shakespeare gave the audience a laugh at themselves in some of his plays.
Emma Robinson considering a lot of the devs were British, that's probably the case.
Yep and the eccentric founder of Icaras dying in a 'balloon accident' was definitely a jab at Richard Branson!
HΣSPΣRΛXΛ The writers even predicted Brexit!

As an aspiring writer i would love to write a Wipeout movie (or TV series) featuring a young British woman competing in the FX 300 League (taking place around the year 2198) as an Piranha pilot
Is... Is Auricom's Fusion craft flippin' open cockpit?!
Yeah. Along with other craft that were in WipEout Fusion. As I remember, G-Tech and Piranha's craft were both open-cockpit. Fusion was a weird game.
Piranha wasn't, G-tech was
Tigron was too
TheLaXandro But it's OK because force fields
Same guy here, the thing is; Fusion had different upgrade tiers of craft, depending on your upgrades they'd look different, I'm sure Piranha's early vehicle had an open cockpit, and transitioned to a closed cockpit.
