    There is something enchanting, almost magical about your ability to know your tinder bundle well enough that you can pause, encourage content engagement, then go back to it and have it catch on the very next breath. That level of skill is truly aspirational.

    • @DavidWestBgood2ppl
      @DavidWestBgood2ppl  Рік тому

      The challenge of figuring out when one more breath will bring it to flames is enjoyable and satisfying. Smoke that is streaming up out of a tinder bundle quickly means that it's right on the verge of igniting.
      It also keeps people watching longer. My Analytics show that as soon as I start to say my outro, 25% of the people still watching, leave.

    With all those coals you need some burgers or a couple of steaks to use up that heat. Great video. Your Fatwood baton reminds me of pulling out roots of old dead pines and splitting them into tiny strips for firestarters. The old man always had his eye out for fatwood...

    Can't beat a good stick of fat wood for just about anything, I like the aroma of it when sawing or shaving it. It was a building wood in the old time Cracker Homes here in Florida. No rot or insects and turned gray with time , just be careful with the matches.

    Thats a nice fatwood stick. I was using a homemade deer antler as a bearing block and it still blackens. I watched one of your vids a little while ago and tried just using a small round fatwood block and it works great. Im going to scout the property for a nice piece and make a homemade block and attach cord to it. Thanks again for the instruction-

    Well David, I know how it is to try to squeeze the most out of your fireboard but, why not try using a bit larger/longer board from now on? A good fireboard won't set you back any money and if it was anywhere around a quarter inch thick, it would probably last you 10 time longer. You realize that you are diminishing the thickness of the board each time you use it and if you start out thin, you will end up with a fireboard in 2 pieces that much sooner. ... Just one ol' ourdoorsman to another, mind you ... 👍

      @@DavidWestBgood2ppl I always wanted a BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, etc. The closest we ever came was an Audi A4 and it was primarily my wife's. These luxury brands have one thing in common and that is unrealistically high maintenance and parts costs. We are driving a Ford F150 base model, a VW Beetle and a Subaru Forester when we need passenger space. I have no need to keep up with the Jones's or with their credit card bills. I really enjoy the heck out of your videos and will try soon to extract some heartwood from a dead pine that is collapsed on the line between my neighbor and me.
