This is a video from the last day of business at the Higashiyama Zoo this year.
After the gorillas finished breakfast, they went back to the basement as usual and spent some time in the basement.
Before lunch, the gorillas came outside and while the keepers were preparing lunch, Shabani and Kiyomasa were playing happily for the first time in a long time.
This may have been the day that Shabani and Kiyomasa drummed the most this year.
The visitors to the park were enthralled by the sight of both Shabani and Kiyomasa playing 😊.
This is the last video I will be posting this year.

Their drumming together is harmonious. Kiyo has gotten huge, he's getting almost as big as his Pops.

This is why commenters need to relax a little when they see Shabani and kiyo having a bad day. There are troops in the wild where silverbacks allow their black back sons to stick around and rely on them as second in commands. Yes there will be drama, but that is the nature of things. Shabani will NEVER hurt kiyo badly. He adores his son.

As big as Kiyo is getting he is still just a little babyback wanting his dad to play,, This is why I love all gorilla’s ….. I my not like their personality or what I think is bad/mean but if I could I would take them all home with me 😮😮😮❤❤❤❤
This is the kind of day we wish for them across the year. One where the males can harmoniously get along. To see them playfully thumping together and tossing that hay around was a much needed reprieve in the tension. The happiest day in a long time. Thanks for sharing the ups and the downs of Shabani family this year.

Look at how annie ushered kiyo to the door in case of trouble with shabani then sat in front of dad to then get between them when shabani went outside.

I think the gorillas - being naturally very social animals, and so habituated to humans - must know how much the human visitors like them drumming their chests, so when they’re in a good mood they do it to show off because they enjoy the positive attention. They likely understand human behavior more than we give them credit for, and know what their laughter means.
The fastest druming silverback ive ever seen has to be lomako hes also a crazy athlete.

Any updates on Nene? I haven't seen an update in quite awhile.
GL Ryan said on a live stream last week that Nene is being kept separate from the group but they can see each other at times. She's just too old to be amongst the rough housing play, and the occasional fights.

Kiyomasa is getting really big
The gorillas at this zoo do not look healthy. Their yard is filled with dead plants. Not enough greenry for them to eat. They look bored. The M family look happier and heathier. Sad to me.
This is pure animal abuse. The silverback's son is now old enough that the silverback no longer sees him as his son. He sees him as competition for the harem. Meanwhile, the son has no opportunities to form his own family. This imposes a huge amount of stress on both gorillas. Why do Asians love hurting animals so much?
