Which of these golf shots was the most iconic? Let us know in the comments below.
#1 That shot has been done lots of times at the Masters. The only reasons why this is #1 are because A) It's Tiger Woods and B) Verne Lundquist is a blowhard.
Louis was on 2 not 12. the same place as the shot heard around the world. Matt Kucher holed out from a bunker to win the RBC Heritage, Speith had another holed bunker shot and an even more impressive chest bump a few years go. for the Masters Phil from the pinestraw on 13 should definitley be on this list along with Larry mize. 16 is iconic i can't fault it, but it's the way the hole is made, and it almost happens every year, for tiger his double breaking putt on the 17th at Sawgrass was more impressive.
The very 1st hole in one in the U.S Open. That shot hopefully made this list.
But I will understand if it didn't. Out of thousands of unbelievable shots over the years, how can anyone put a top 10 list. I guess I'll watch and see. Lol.
Do your research on Justin Leonard please. Olazabal still had a putt to tie the hole and go all square to 18 with a chance to win the match for the Euro’s.
This putt was an embarrassment to golf. Reverse the roles, maybe Tiger has that putt to tie. And the Euro’s do that celebration early. It would be a national outrage! This selection is just horrible its the opposite of “the greatest ” and I’m American.
Tiger Wood's chip, of course.
And Tiger's chip shot made the perfect commercial for Nike at the time too, lol
That Nike ball and tiger in his red Nike shirt was like having all the super bowl commercials
bet nike was happy they sponsored him 😂
Tiger's 6-Iron from 210+ yards out of the sand, over the water, and just past the pin on 18 at the Canadian open (to get home in 2 on the par 5 and set up the win) is still his best (or at least possibly tied with another insane fairway bunker shot from below his feet at the PGA Championship).
DAMN U BEAT ME TO IT!!!!
not having it on this list is a crime
the shot at the PGA was way more difficult of a shot. He didn't even finish on the green at the Canadian open.
Agreed. I've even heard Woods himself say that's his best shot ever
Absolutely. Either limit this list to shots from majors, or put that shot in the top 3.
Jon Rahm practicing at the Masters and getting a hole in one after skimming the ball on the water is by far the best to me
It's a great you tube moment...also a lifetime moment for any golfer. But other people have done it I heard. Love the video.
Yeah, that should have made it!
it wasn’t in an actual tournament just a practice round before the Master’s
Vijay Singh also did a water skip hole in one at that same hole.
Birthday as well?
That Happy Gilmore one better be on this list!
Good call!
"NO NO! YOU HAVE TO PLAY IT WHERE IT LIES! I HAD TO HIT IT OFF OF FRANKENSTEIN'S FAT FOOT!"
Are you too good for your home? ANSWER ME!!!
But Grizzly Adams DID have a beard….
My buddy and i were 20 ft. behind Tiger on 16 in 05. The place exploded! My only trip to Augusta and what a memory.
That has to be the greatest golf shot of all times. It's due to the ball "posing" on the edge before dropping in perfectly. I've never seen a shot where the ball literally posed on the edge then dropped in.
6:01, correction needed, Louis Oosthuizen shot was on Augusta’s par 5 second hole, not par three the twelfth
I was going to say, I thought the 12th was a par 3. Glad you clarified that!
Thank you my friend
I just said that above too, it’s not even 13 either which is what I thought they meant but that wasn’t the hole they showed lol.
The amount of mistakes, errors and mispronunciations in this video is incredible.
It's like they did 10 minutes of research for this whole thing. Jordan Spieth's bunker shot in 2013 is better than Larry Mize's chip in to win the Masters?? I've never heard of or seen that shot from Spieth until this video.
I was gonna say the same thing. Calling Bubba’s 9 iron a chip shot. 🤦🏼♂️ Saying Oosthuizen’s albatross was on the 12th hole at Augusta when it was actually hole #2. Anybody that knows a thing about Augusta KNOWS the 12th is the iconic par 3 over water. I quit watching after that flub. The shots were great, but they shanked the commentary. 🤣
@@alexanderh2345 Yes, that was total luck. Would have finished far from the hole.
Americans…
Who cares
Larry Mize’s Masters playoff chip in deserves more than honorable mention!
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. All ten are great shots, but my God, Greg Norman had that Masters playoff sewn up until Mize's miraculous shot. I remember watching it live on television, and could not believe my eyes. Mize's shot is second only to the Tiger chip in my opinion.
ABSOLUTELY!! In a playoff. HAs to bounce it off the riough.
Early 2000’s Tiger Woods was a force of nature.
He was untouchable from '97-'09
The camera operator on Tiger's shot was just as skilled.
He had a tripod. 🤣
He was told to move his camera to tiger for his reaction as the ball dropped but he decided not to listen to his order and he kept the camera on the ball dropping in. This is one of the best camera man decisions if all time. As it captured the ball barley making it to the hole and showing the Nike sign in the process. Had he moved the camera it would have nearly ruined the best shot of all time. The camera man deserves a Presidential medal of honor for this decision
The #1 shot of all time was more than just skill, it was utter perfection.
Lots of better “shots” of out there but not too bad of a selection. The top pick is perfect. Not only is it a great shot, but the dramatic tension it created as the ball slowly came down and paused for a second before falling into the hole.
That Tiger Woods shot made me quote Bill Murray in Space Jam: "It is alive."
A couple points of context:
1:04 Renner thinks he’s signing the winning card. There was the chance of a birdie to head to a playoff, but Aoki snatched the entire thing right there. Brutal.
3:00 Leonard’s putt didn’t win the match. He’s against Olazabal who still has a shorter put to tie the hole. The entire US team and their wives trampled the green in celebration before Olly could putt. It’s widely considered some of the worst etiquette ever displayed in competition.
4:10 Bubba’s shot was one of the hardest to pull off in the history of golf. The target is directly to his back and completely blocked by bushes and trees. Not to mention he’s trying to make that 90° turn out of pine straw, in a sudden death playoff, with a club that’s not meant to be turned that much in that short a distance. IN-SANE.
6:02 It was the second hole, not the twelfth. Plus he was the one Bubba beat in the playoff with the other shot.
6:52 This putt was more than just his first major win. Phil Mickelson won his first professional event in 1991 while he was still an amateur. He was going to be the next star of golf. Then a guy named Tiger Woods showed up and stole the moment. Phil played second fiddle to that guy for nearly a decade before he broke through. That’s as good as it gets.
7:47 Mize’s shot not being ranked is laughable. He was born and raised in the same town where the Masters has been held since the 40’s. He’d only had one win in his career to that point and was basically a non factor on tour. He made this shot to win a playoff against two of the best players of all time in Greg Norman and Seve Ballesteros. This shot is the completion of one of the greatest underdog stories in golf history. Should be ranked 2nd.
This is an underrated comment, thanks for informing some of us that are not as knowledgeable about the game!!
After doing some research I wholeheartedly agree about the Mize shot
The people who rushed the green on Leonard’s putt were nowhere near JMO’s line, that’s just salty Europeans talking
great post, very informative. Thank you!
AND he had took 2 bounces on the fringe.
Louis Oosthuizen's albatross was on the second hole, not the twelfth. Apart from that, great video. Would have loved to have seen Sandy Lyle's bunker shot on 18 in the 1988 masters, given the occasion an incredible shot.
Oosthuizen nailed that shot . . . then totally shanked the high-five with his caddy . . . 6:32
@@andrewpereira9271hahaha i was looking for someone else who saw one of the whitest high fives in history. Lol
I get it, you have to include others' shot's to make it interesting, but Tiger easily has 15 shots greater than these.
Nah, Bubba’s hook shot at the Masters is better than any of Tiger’s greatest shots. Tiger is the GOAT, but Bubba’s shot defied physics and was done in OT at the Masters
@@ladystoneheart8155 Yeah, No.
Name a better Tiger shot
In the first round of the 2001 Phoenix Open, Andrew Magee made the first ever hole in one on a par 4 in a PGA TOUR event. It was the 17th hole. He shot into the group in front of him and they had to move out of the way. It was 332 yards.
Tigers shot gives me chills
For once the number one for me is spot on, I can’t think of a more iconic moment in sport let alone golf that is still played 18 years later, also Nike got the best advertising they could ever have asked. A favourite for me though was Tiger’s iron shot at Hoylake in 2006 where he holed a 220 or so yard iron shot on bone dry greens, after he hit a stinger tee shot with his 2iron, it was just magical.
Was just waiting for Tiger's shot the whole time. ❤
Thank you for the golf list! 😄
I think this is awesome. Never expected WatchMojo to post anything like this!
Watch mojo. Can we get a narrator who plays golf next time. Thank you
And someone who knows how to pronounce their names.
@@classicerynn8452 and the word tournament.
Best mojo narration ever
How can you leave out Tom Watsons chip in on 17 in the 1982 US Open, incredible shot
Tiger's 2005 Masters 16th hole chip ("The Chip") is the best golf shot ever. The pressure, the course, the moment (DiMarco close). 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Davis love the third smashing 480 yards or Phils backwards no look from the bunker 👏👏
The shot heard round the world…Gene Sarazan albatross on 15 at the Masters! Didn’t see it but must have been incredible to see.
Tiger Woods was a human highlight reel in his prime! I sure do miss those days. 😎
Woods' shot, that was something else man.
I love Golf. Great video love you WatchMojo 💖😍👍🏾
At least these videos are satisfying to watch and not cringey because of losing!
I like the way Tiger's ball hangs up on the rim with the Nike Swoosh showing......!
boy I love Golf!!!! Yayyy Golf!!!
i agree
you're a weird ass person
Gene Sarazins Double Eagle.
Tiger’s chip is historic and elite, but Verne Lundquist’s call for CBS made it that much better. If you’ve never heard it, go listen. It adds another degree of amazingness to it.
Great choices, but the first shot I thought of when I saw the subject was Christy O`Connor Jr`s 2 iron to the 18th at Belfry that clinched the 1989 Ryder Cup.
The way the ball hung on the edge, just to keep us in suspense !
I'll never forgive the USA team for what they did after that Leonard putt at Brookline in 1999. Jose Maria Olazabal still had a putt to tie that hole and the US team completely spoiled Olazabal's preparation for that putt. Complete and utter lack of sportsmanship on their part.
We got our revenge at Medinah........that one was for Seve.
@@marksims3904 Hear, hear.
stop crying. It was an emotional moment that no one saw coming. No team had ever comeback from a deficit that large in the current format and a near impossible comeback was topped off by a near impossible putt.
@@johnnybgood7442 Yes it was a magnificent putt but the reaction was totally out of order. When Martin Kaymer rolled in his putt in Medinah in 2012 to win the Ryder Cup was there a massive green invasion? No. Europe celebrated in the time honoured fashion, hugs and handshakes. (And we saluted our dearly departed Seve.) The only time I can think of when there was a massive green invasion in Europes' favour was 2010 at Celtic Manor, that was after the game was conceded, not before Hunter Mahan (I think!) had a putt to halve the hole. Only celebrate when the match if over, NOT before.
@@marksims3904 2012 wasn't the same. The Euros weren't on home soil with thousands of amped up fans. When that kind of energy is flowing, I couldn't blame anyone for that type of reaction... That's what make sports so great. If it was something done intentionally or planned, then I could understand. It was merely a knee jerk reaction of something that was never seen before.
How is Mickelsons putt to win the masters better than Mize’s chip in a playoff to win the same tournament.
#7 was the one that I remember the most. I remember watching that on TV and the reaction for sinking that seemingly impossible put given the pressure, the distance and the breaks. Justin Leonard's name will forever be remembered by me for that putt.
Tiger can have a top 10 by himself....
9:24 yeah, you guys nailed #1
That Speith bunker shot is a perfect example of how much the flagstick can help you out. If Jordan even hit that flag stick just a bit off center that ball likely would have been off the green.
thanks'
9:53 golf ball: "wait for it."
The shot from Woods at the 08 US Open had to make this list, and there are about a half dozen more of his that could have made this video, the same could be said for Jack.
Speith shouldn't have made the list, he was lucky the shot hit the flag pole or it would have been overpitched and we all know he wasn't aiming for it so I couldn't call it a great shot - just a lucky one.
@@poocrayon4588 Big time lucky you are correct.
I agree with about 2 picks.
Honestly, Tiger should have been half the list.
Woods chip in was terrific….but a chip shot number one? I have to go with Nicklaus’s 1 iron into a twenty mile an hour wind in US Open conditions to an inch
A better chip than Tigers was Larry Mize 1987 Masters at the 11th hole in playoff with Greg Norman. Chips in to win it all.
Bubba Watson’s Driver-Driver-Putter for eagle is maybe my favorite.
Others worth mentioning:
Craig Parry's Eagle at 18 to win the 2004 Doral Open
Robert Gamez's Eagle from the fairway at 18 to win the 1990 Bay Hill Invitational
Seve Ballesteros 3 wood out of sand for an eagle putt at the 1983 Ryder Cup
Colin Montgomerie's driver off the deck over water to 10 feet at 18 1996 Dubai Desert Classic
Tiger Woods 6 Iron out of sand and over water to 10 feet at the 2000 Canadian Open
Tiger Woods 7 iron for an eagle putt at number 6 at the 2000 US Open (it's not a fair fight)
Jack Nicklaus's 4 iron at 15 at the 1986 Masters to set up eagle
Phil Mickelson 6 iron out of pine straw to 5 feet at number 13 2010 Masters
Phil Mickelson over the trees second shot into 18 2008 Colonial
Tiger Woods double breaking putt at number 17 TPC 2001
As an Australian I feel Parry’s shot at the Doral open is underrated.
Their list is awful. Complete poo.
Let us not forget Kim Jong-Il's perfect game the first time he ever played the game
On an actual note, the hole in one Alexander Ovechkin pulled off his first time playing is pretty iconic too
🤣
I'm glad they put jack nicklaus's one iron shot in here because I consider that to be right at the top of the greatest shots.
Nick Taylor’s 72-footer to win playoff at RBC Canadian Open 2023 will be on this list in the future.
70s announcer hilarious 😂
Phil and Tiger are amazing
How could u ignore Larry mizes chip to WIN the masters, and highlight Michaelson 18 foot putt
This could be a video just of Tiger and no one would be upset and no one could argue with it 😂
Tigers pitch on the 16th at Augusta.
Rory McIlroy’s hole out eagle at the 2016 tour championship should’ve been on this list, allowed him to force a playoff and eventually win
facts
Ok I’ll go try it on the course then lmao
I was hoping Tiger's shot at 16 was going to be number 1!!!! We are in agreement sir!
Alright, I was skeptical, but you included Bubba’s hook shot at the Masters. For me it’s the best shot of all time, but number 5 is fair
Does anyone remember the albatross at The International around at the turn of the century? My memory is too fuzzy, but I remember that it was electric. Best tournament that I have ever seen.
Tigers chip was remarkable. But the greatest golf is the super shot that WINS a tournament. That would be a tossup between Jamie Byrd and Tom Watson. Personally I would say that as Watson won a US OPEN with that shot he has the edge. Both Tiger and Bubba hit fantastic shots. But Bubba followed with a two putt and Tiger had to overcome bogeys on 17 and 18 to beat Demarco in a playoff. This is just my opinion what do you guys think.
Going by your argument that the greatest shot should be one that wins a tournament, then it has to be Mize's shot at the Masters. Add the back story of Mize being a hometown boy in a playoff against two giants, then nothing comes close.
Also: Watson did not win the Open with that shot. As great as it was, it was on the 17th hole.
Impressive skills! Would be great if you make a list of the greatest football (soccer) free-kicks of all time.
Oosthuizen's albatross was on the 2nd hole, which is a par 5, not the 12th, which is a par 3.
Impossible to have an albatross on a par 3.
What about Trevino's bunker shot in the '72 open? Or when he his the flag in the '71 US open? I agree with the best shot though
How did Spieths lucky bunker shot at a low tier event, get in here over Mize’s chip in at the masters, or Craig parry’s hole out at Doral!!
Or an 18 foot Mickeson putt?
Happys put on the 18th to win the golf jacket is probably the most iconic shit of all time
Also my favorite shot. Tiger at his peak.
This is bad research. Justin Leonard’s putt didn’t win the Ryder Cup. Olazabal had a 20 or so footer to tie the hole and go all square after that putt. He missed it.
But this was a massive embarrassment and a complete breakdown of edicate and professionalism.
What if a Euro player and team did that with Tiger having a 20 footer to tie the hole. It would be a national outrage.
This selection is straight up stoopid!
Bubbas hook has got to be in the top 3. If you play golf, then you understand the pedigree of the difficulty to pull of that shot and win.
That last shot must've been worth millions in advertising for Nike. Very impressive and dramatic shot.
Ok but the hole in one to win a sudden death playoff is definitely number 1
Michael Block has entered the chat.
you're forgetting Jack Nicklaus' "want me to show you how to putt it?"
I don't even golf that last shot by tiger got me fired up
Jonathan Byrd pulled a Happy Gilmore “nah I’ll beat them right now”
I’m surprised Rory’s eagle on hole 16 in the final round at East Lake didn’t make it as an honorable mention
Phil's shot in 2010 from the pinstraw on #13 was better than his 2004 winning putt
This list is probably bush but I’ll watch
Chip Goldman’s 240 yard shot with an 8 iron from behind a tree, which rolled backwards into the hole for an albatross on a par 5 will always be my favourite shot ever.
Of course, Tiger's chip! ❤
Seamus Power back-to-back holes-in-one at the 2023 Masters par 3 competition! Anybody know the odds on that?
Best Golfplay : 2014 Victor Dubuisson against Jason Day Accenture at No 5 Hole ... that was playing Golf !!!
Congrats to the guy who has seen EVERY golf shot EVER to know that he can list the greatest shots of ALL TIME! Damn! What a lucky guy..
Speiths at the open when he was in the middle of nowhere was one of the best I’ve ever see
Playing GTA 5 golf has brought me here lol.
Honourable mentions -
Seves shot over the wall at the european masters
Christie Oconnor Jr's long iron at the belfry in the ryder cup
Colin montgomeries driver off the deck at the dubai desert classic
Tiger totally reenacted caddy shack 😂😂😂
Where's Andrew Magee's par 4 hole in one? The one where it came off Tom Byrum's putter and into the hole for an ace.
Just gonna be a tiger highlight
I'm amazed we don't have any more PGA moments on WatchMojo
then suggest more
@@jimbo9208 who's to say I haven't already?
@@cryospiral i do
@@jimbo9208 well, when you become someone I give a damn about please let me know.
This list is probably why. It’s awful. Especially Leonard’s putt which didn’t win anything and was an embarrassment for the USA because Olazabal had a putt to tie the hole and go all square to 18. Imagine if Olazabal was Tiger waiting to putt. This list sucks!
Tiger skipping across the water in the masters was iconic to me
3:32 THANK YOU for calling it an Albatross
edit 6:39 well guess you can't win em all 😅
They had to do only official competitions, or else Matt Scharff par 4 ace would be #1!
Lee Trevino's ace at the 1987 Skins Game would be here as well.
You would have to add now Nick Taylors putt from 72 feet in the 4th playoff hole to win the Canadian open. Epic.
The Justin Leonard Ryder Cup putt was extremely poor etiquette from the USA team. Olazábal still had a putt to halve the hole and all the team ran over his line, also the USA fans heckling on his backswing on the approach shot.
