Media History Shorts: Spirit Photography of the 19th Century

The spirit photography craze of the late 1800s captured (and exploited) the growing fascination with photography, then a new technology that seemed to have the power to "freeze" or "capture" life. William Mumler and other photographer seized on this new fear and fascination, claiming they were able to capture invisible ghosts and spirits of deceased loved ones on film.
