When I was 15 in 1994 a small, but rough, town in Norfolk called Thetford held a U-16 rave called Hyperdance in the local sports hall. It was only about an 8th full. But Ratpack played for a fraction of their normal fee. I lived for the scene then, my bedroom was literally wallpapered with fliers. They played a wicked long set and were incredible. At the end when everyone was leaving I went to the toilet and saw the youth ventre organiser and in my ecstasy fuelled state thanked her for organising it......and in the corner chilling out were some blackblokes with dreads, a rare sight in a small Norfolk town.....then it dawned on me ...IT WAS THE RATPACK, I asked the youth worker if I could talk to them, she said yes. As a skinny naive 15 year old white boy, who got intimidated just getting fliers from record shops, I was very intimdated they were all well built smoking weed which was rare then cos all you could get was hash back then. But I went up to them and praised them on their wicked live set, and they pulled up a chair for me, and each one took the time to sign my Fantazia top. Lovely blokes, found it hilarious talking to this twitching little 15 year old with rolling eyes and a stuckout jaw. They inspired me to start Djing, Inever made it big, but was a good and respected techno DJ whoused to play at all the illegals in Norfolk after Hardcore evolved intojungle, then D and B. Cos Norfolkis reallyrural with no clubs raves were held in mainly marquees in fields, barn,or the beach, and occassionally unused warehouses in Norwich.
I remember listening to this play on pirate station Kool FM whilst at boarding school in Croydon, South London in 1992. TDK tapes at the ready, finger on the record button! Those were the days!
Had a beer with Mark in my local boozer a few years ago. There was a piano in the pub and he busted out all the old rave anthems on there. Absolute legend. This is a stone cold classic
I believe the natural state of human beings is peace and love and mostly wanting to live in harmony. But society is set up in so many ways to take us away from that state. It wasn't long after the raving times that cola became the main taste, I think it was done purposefully because if more & more had caught on to coming together in love the people with power would lose their control over us. Divide & conquer is not just a saying. I think those of us who experienced that feeling & probably those of the 60s who also experienced being together in love have got an important role to play in doing the best we can to try bring that love & unity into our lives and the world. 1 love.
@@lollylula6399 beautifully said. I feel the same. We've got a responsibility to show the next generations how to come together in love and peace. We can't let the people in charge dictate how we live and how see and relate to one another. Peace and love all
