...my archetype of D´n´B. Planes of beautiful chords and massive, raw and incredibly propulsive beats as counterpoint. Truly art. This was new and stays unique.
This is pure symphony. The pads and triangle tangs just make it more mysterious. Sooo ahead of its time, if it was released now we would say the same thing….
You need to remember these guy were about 18 or 19 when this track was made, I used to see them down at the Mars bar handing tunes to Bukem and Fabio to play out and everybody going crazy! Genius!
Speed night was absolutely legendary. Went many times between 94-96. Also went to the Speed reunion at XOYO in 2016 and even with ridiculously high expectations it blew me away
Heard this tune for the first time in London 2019 (Kemistry remembered 20th anniversary).. We came all the way from the Netherlands just for this party. We were walking out the room for a smoke when this one pulled off, ran instantly back with goosebumps. Absolute gem that can’t get old 😄
Something about the sound of the Amen feels more ethereal from this era. The piano and ambient pads compliment the drums perfectly in this track. It speaks to me in a way that a lot of other dnb doesn't, even after having listened to this genre for a long time. The 90s really did carry the essence of this genre. The evolution of jungle to the present day has still been very enjoyable, but the sound of this era cannot be replicated - it's beautiful!!
I find it hard to believe that after djing and listening to jungle & dnb for nearly 15 years I had never heard of source direct. Photek has always been a favourite but after seeing the interview with these guys on the dutch interview, i'm stunned. Sickened and confused by my lack of knowledge. And I had a jungle collection to rival most. Hangs head in serious shame. But comforted by my rediscovered love of jungle dnb via Source Direct.
DoomKaiserGliders Definitely rivaled by stuff thats around today. In my opinion this tune is a timeless classic, thats why im here. Im just saying there are producers still carrying the flame today and keeping this style well and truly alive and keeping the innovation :)
Agree. When I first heard jungle/d'n'b as a teenager in the 90's it sounded like total freakin' madness to me. But so interesting, it grabbed me and never let me go. This is one of England's best heritages.
Wondrous music and was lucky to be in my early 20’s when these tunes came out, got plenty in my vinyl collection - they are like holy musical tapestry’s, literally records of that time. Amen 🙏
Those, who know, they know the very special feeling of the cover in your hands. sometimes it is too dark to have a look inside your case. it felt rough, and it is... grey and blue, and you allways knew, when you started up a set, ... the crowd would raise, yeah, indeed, really tearing up the place. hammering!!!
So many videos on youtube. Hard to leave a comment on one. Anyway....dope track. I'll be a 50 year old dad rocking this in the car. Non stop. The background angels singing are the sh*t. I'll miss Source Direct hard.
Ive mixed this choon to death man AND i still find it haunting and enrgetic....a real challenege to mix without crowding the inward choon....absolute magic when nailed!....Love it!!
Timeless!! You could put this on in 50 + years time and still be amazed. When i brought this back when it 1st came out in 96, i laughed to myself and thought yet another SD amen classic. Whatever these guys made between 94 - 1999 i brought all on vinyl. Rough!!
@NorthPrime Concept & Design & Production jay sorry for the late reply, I’ve watch that movie so many times and when I first herd this track back in the 90’s I made the connection straight away!.
not to downplay this track at all but i think the future is bright. there's plenty of good jungle still coming out and younger producers like me striving everyday to make beautiful jungle tunes. don't relegate this kind of stuff to an untouchable past. there are no limitations on the future
sorry to say this bro, but perhaps music like this will cease to be produced anymore soon. dubstep was a great genre till it was tainted by us style. skrillex ruined the genre for the original fans. now it's buried in the ruins of the classic electronic music, haunted only by the true lovers of music, explorers of the deep and hidden.
@@dr.doctor2620 music cant be ruined, music is constantly changing, music is subjective, music cant seize to exist either, but skrillex is shite haha, theres a clear distinction between present US and UK dubstep so theres no way it can be ruined, its only classic because of your perspective, wait 10 years and youll see, like a massive flower. theres more to come
@@dr.doctor2620 I get your point with dubstep, but the point remains that absolutely storming dubstep is still produced by young producers by the bucket-load.
