Layered Loop Recording with Fixed Item Lanes - REAPER 7

- If you've used Fixed Item Lanes in REAPER 7 you've probably noticed the Layer New Lanes option. If you've tried it you might have noticed that as you Record new layers you don't hear previous layers, only on Playback.
You just need to enable Monitoring for the track media
Right-click Record arm, "Monitor track media when recording"
Now you can hear each layer stacking as you record into new track lanes.
But why is it different when loop recording into fixed-lanes?
By default REAPER doesn't create new files while looping recording, only one file when you stop. This can be changed in the preferences to an option that works better for loop recording and monitoring each layer.
Go to Preferences - Audio - Loop/Lane recording
When recording and looped, add recorded media to project: "at each loop"
Thanks for watching!

Bonus Tip: "A great way to get chords from a monophonic synth" 😂 As always, if it weren't for Jon and Kenny, I'd be TOTALLY lost in Reaper. Thanks for doing what you do.
Really nice function though, great lesson 👏
Absolutely helps big time!!!! thank you for a concise and accurate explanation.

How do you have it start recording when you press a midi note on your keyboard?
I'm recording in an track with existing lanes. I don't necesserely want to listen to all my recorded lanes while recording, but the thing is Reaper is continuing adding new lanes when recording. What I want is that it recorded in the existing empty lanes, not creating new ones. Any solution?
hi John i was trying to record yesterday with lanes two tracks a guitar track and a di track. there's a way to have the same comping done to both lanes or copy one comp from one track to the other?
Track grouping fir this
