Trepanation / Trephination | Drilling Holes Into the Skull

- Trepanning operation filmed on 16mm Kodachrome film Trepanning is said to be the oldest known surgical procedure. As we can see here, the procedure itself is not very complicated, and there have indeed been several well documented cases of people performing it on themselves.
Sir, I really love the videos you posted! Thank you very much!
When you fall asleep first at the sleepover
This showed uo on my DIY wood working recomends... I can't help but wonder if this doc is using a Black & Becker drill or DeWalt?
Notice that these screws were put into the patient's forehead; that makes me wonder if he's going to get a halo (broken neck, maybe?)
I think the taps were placed to see if there would be drainage indicating that the screws had penetrated membranes which wouldn't be desirable. Then they aspirated with the empty syringes checking for fluid or blood.
The fluid injected afterwards was probably antibiotics.
Fascinating stuff! Thanks, @ArchiveMC!
Lies again? Aspirin has similar effects in head through blood thinner
I came here from Homunculus 💀
Same here, how bout we do self-trepanation like Nakoshi ⁉️👀
Same 💀
Real
Didn’t know it was an actual thing until I read the manga. Really interesting tho
bruh ... same . Really shocked to see this in real life tho .
I am wondering, is there any risks involved using the same tools without cleaning them for both holes? Also, since there were holes drilled through the skull, does the skull need to rebuild the lost nine structure or do the holes just stay?
There shouldn't be a problem with using the same drill bit as long as long as sterility is maintained. It's a contiguous area which would have been disinfected. The holes seen here are very small and would eventually close by healing and bone remodelling. A very large hole could well remain open for many years, up until a natural death
@@MentalHealthTreatment thank you for posting such interesting and historical videos!! ❤️😀👍
@@MentalHealthTreatment they didnt leave the holes directly open, they would put a piece of silver like a coin in the gap and the bone would regrow around it
What are the needles that were jammed into the head?
There's something extra freaky about the way the drill pops through, once it's penertrated the skull, exactly like when a drill breaches a piece of wood/plastic, metal, etc.
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine. Your kind cling to your flesh, as though it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call the temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortal…
My head hurts alot
No blood?
What were those injections for right at the beginning? I'd love to learn more about it.
probably a vasoconstrictor to reduce bleeding. But I don't know what is being injected after the holes are drilled. I hope someone will tell me
The 1st injections were most likely a numbing substance, like Lidocaine or Benzocaine. 💉 The drug companies DO make injectable anesthetic WITH a vasoconstrictor included, which is excellent for very vascular areas of the body.
The 2nd use of a syringe 💉 was Not an injection! 😉 The medical professional was attempting to reduce the pressure in the skull by extracting any free fluids.
I'm a surgical nurse with 30+ years of experience. I would be happy to answer questions. If I don't know, I'll let you know! 😊
💖🙏💞
Maybe Lidocaine 2% with epinephrine.
@ 3:04, It doesn't look like extracting fluids. It looks like something is being administered to the epidural area of the brain.
It is a numbing agent meant for numbing pain and it also creates more space between the scalp and skull( slows bleeding as well)
What was this procedure for? To release pressure and reduce inflammation, possibly??
i've read some articles and testimonials of positive benefits in terms of mood, creativity. i've also read that it has no point. not sure why it was conducted in this video.
My professor told us that some people did this to "release evil spirits". Knowing that this was the 1900s, Idk what to believe.
Dr Death down in the lab with Dracula and his crew having fun. It's supposed to release hydro pressure and relieve migraine and blurred vision. Cave men did it. It's one of the first medical procedures ever done..
Watching this at night , pretty creepy :(
Creepy but interesting
2:31am to be precise 😂😂
Were is the blood? Wow…I am SOOOO gonna try this tonight! Wonder if my Dewalt 20V will have enough ass to do it?
I came here because IG had a story about an old guy doing this to perma hallucinate
What does this do
Im sorry, my English is not very good.i have a question and need your opinions : is this really helps????
No it is an old thing that is considered bad
@@_MFM thank for answer !!!!
@@_MFM if it's a bad thing why those things were carried out before then ?
@@Alice-eq4oh
Because back then the medicine was based upon myths, not like today which we build our knowledge depending upon evidence based knowledge.
@@Alice-eq4oh because nobody had knowledge of what’s good or not, it was based on myths. They also thought bloodletting was helpful
Hi, I have no idea what's going on and I'm just deeply fascinated with historical or medical archives I see on the internet. May I ask how this procedure benefits the patient? Is it still being practiced in modern medicine?
Skull drilling is going on here , may it be a medical process I think , use for cure head injuries or head pain etc.
it helps the blood circulate easier due to less pressure in the head, a very low rate of people do it this days but in the past it was made by some cultures, with different proposes
No ofc we don’t use it in modern medicine. It’s just an old procedures of old surgery. I think so(((
In the past, some doctors believe that by draining some amount of blood in the brain could "cure" mental disorders
It apparently drills a hole in your skull to drain infected blood
wall installation
this looks like an antenna implant lmao
can someone explain why blood does not come out?
I was wondering the same. My guess is the fluid injected before the drilling prevented the blood for coming out.
I do wonder who though of this procedure and why they were carried out?
usually done as interventions for cranial trauma and other neurological diseases (bleeding in the brain for an example). sometimes done by our ancestors as initiation rights. they believe that the hole in the trepanned skull gives passages to spirits to enter in and out of the body.
@@plutonian4941 ahh thank you for the info! :)
@@plutonian4941 technically they were correct… your spirit will indeed be leaving your body
Isdo seria a lobotomia ?
Como cuando te dice que te hace falta dos tornillos
Interesting
i watched this before reading the homunculus manga
My headache is gone
Ouch !!😢
Here after a guy intentionally drilled his head to be high 24/7
lmao same
Same. Still wondering how tho
Saaaame !
Anyone trepanation done..?
it gives me agony
Y'all, please don't drill holes in your heads
I want to see them tho
I wanna see homunculi tho

What on gods green earth
а где продолжение?
А что конкретно вы хотели увидеть? Как зарастают отверстия?😂
Kochers's points maybe...
Its for what
Is that guy dead?
Why? If he is, they wouldn't have given him an analgesic injection before injecting the main drug.
Jd kesemutan ini ubun² liat nya
Ужас
😣😣
Goodbye poor mans brain
this is one of the sussecful procedure and still in use in other forms
Or welcome back poor mans brain
@@LohityaReddy , and what was that procedure?
It is a trepanation, it does not reach the Dura mater, it only creates a hole in the skull.
Ok ok I’ll talk just don’t do that to me!
I came here from the big fat quiz.
THIS IS NOT AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE
Kinda rough, also those needles have to be poking the brain. No thanks. I would rather die.
this is the most unnecessary surgery ever
I'm gonna do this to myself
I believe you're jocking?)
No no no NOOOOO
Bro reading too much homunculus
Still more sane to get this done than certain forced items being pushed en masse.
Lmao no way you're saying this is better than a vaccine you're mental
Always remember: Jesus loves you and wants to build a relationship with you!
Amen🙌🏾
Then why do his people have so much hate in their hearts? Something isn't adding up.
yes
@@metaphysicalgraffiti the same can be said about anyone, but everyone has the choice to be a bad person. Being religious doesn't stop that
Christianity is a man made religion and the Bible ain't the word of GOD but everybody is free to believe what the want (belief is accepting something to be true With or without proof) the Bible is not a reliable source of information, some things in it might be true but not everything there is true so it is not the verbatum word of the creator because otherwise it would be free from errors (numerical for example) and contradictions. May the GOD of Abraham guide you to the truth.
