Jeremy Irons plays the part of Scar so bloody brilliantly. He also sings his own songs. And using James Earl Jones powerful voice to voice Mufasa is also great, even the scene when he talks to simba in the sky ALWAYS gives me chills. Like God talking to us all. This movie will always be my favorite Disney movie. The cast and the plot all so bloody brilliant.
I miss these kinds of movies. Honestly I think the 80's, 90's and late 2000's Disney movies were by far better than today's movies.

And now hearing Death from Puss in Boots said ‘fear’ I felt he should’ve been the perfect role for the Lion King remake (if they make the animation a little bit better than the music itself)
Well of course the plot is brilliant, it’s a modern version of Hamlet by Shakespeare, and Lion king 2 is a modern version of Romeo and Juliet.
I love how chilled James Earl Jones looks when he’s doing it. “Don’t turn your back on me scar.” It’s comes so natural to him.

I have no idea why they didn’t get Jeremy Irons for scar in the newer one but kept James Earl Jones. They’re a combo. You can’t replace Scar’s original voice nor can you replace Mufasa’s. Jeremy Irons brings a sense of villainy that the new person didn’t. It became apparent from that first line “Life’s not fair isn’t it?” Jeremy Irons’ voice is just as iconic as James Earl Jones’.
Worse of all the voice direction and audio quality from James Earl Jones was heartbreaking how bad.

@@thecinematicmind For the remake, Disney should have just reused all of James Earl Jones' archived voice recordings for Mufasa from 1994. His current voice just doesn't have the same booming, godlike sound anymore.

DG funny enough it was actually Jim Cummings, who voiced one of the hyenas in this movie. And yeah, I believe Jeremy Irons stops singing after “you won’t get a sniff without me”. Cummings did a great job, but if you listen close you can ever so slightly tell it’s another person. Really cool trivia!
They sound so similar in the song, too!
There's a video on youtube of Cummings on a convention panel saying that what they used in the final version was all him singing the song; that Irons had recorded a version but his voice was too gravely not from blowing his voice on that line, but just from decades of smoking.
Kikyo4815 interesting info, but I'm not convinced by that for the following reasons:
It's quite noticeably a different voice, and someone mimicking an accent, after "you won't get a sniff without me", and this clip we have of Jeremy Irons singing sounds very much like the same voice up until that point, and in fact, might even be the same take that was used in the movie, at least for some lines. Also the voice no longer syncs up with Scar's movements very well at the point where it seems to change, in the movie. Has anyone else noticed that?
The way this video is edited also makes it seem more obvious that the voice changes, for that last "be prepared"... where it no longer seems to match Jeremy Irons' performance, visually...
Jim Cummings probably did record a complete take and they may have intended to use his whole performance for the movie, but perhaps those involved with editing realised later on that it didn't match the visuals very well, and as a compromise, only replaced the part where they felt Jeremy Irons' voice sounded too rough?
I love footage like this. Good job they didn't have the bit where Jeremy Irons blows his vocal chords.

Since The Lion King was considered the less important movie (compared to pocahontas), they did not have the time to wait for him to recover, and Jim Cummings (the voice of Ed) took over the last part of the song.
AichiKitsune how was it the less important movie if they didn’t have the time to let him recover? If it’s less important, then they aren’t on a deadline to get it out. If it’s more important, then they don’t have time to let him rest and they need to bring in someone so they can finish it.
I think you miss understood.
Lion King was considered the 'less important' movie, compared to pocahontas, which the A-team was working on, which means they had to abide to a strict deadline, which couldn't be pushed. Pushing a deadline costs money for the studio, and is therefore not done unless the studio consider it a big or important movie.

Jeremy Irons was the perfect choice for Scar, he does Scar’s dry sarcasm so well, the line ‘Long live the king’ still gives me chills, and James Earl Jones was another perfect casting choice, his deep is a perfect mix of regal king-ness, and loving dad.

Jeremy Irons didn't even want to play Scar at first. After he signed on though, you can tell he was having a blast and he was willing to come back for the remake. Of course Disney, being idiots, didn't hire him.

Yeah the live action was pretty bad… if they’d made them more like the characters and less like national geographic it probably would if worked much better. Them making it too realistic ruined the feel the original lion king film gave to many. It was no longer the lion king ya know
News flash, it didn't live up to hype. The only thing I liked was Simba and Nala's singing and Mufasa DUH, they royally messed up Scars singing. I almost cried at Scars bad singing, 😭

The original voice of scar was supposed to be Tim Curry but he decided not to do it because he was doing Home Alone 2 at the time recordings started. I love this voice way more and the new voice did an amazing job at this character.
