      It's encouraged and it is also a selling point for actress and actors in future films to get more sales and views from the media. They give you the illusion that both your favorite actors and actresses will be able to get married and fantasize them on their journey. That's why they are also filled the role of lovers on screen.
      Also with P-pop Idols as well, A boy group member would be paired with a female group member to do an MV to get more promotions and songs by being paired as a couple.
      Filipinos love shipping, we don't have idols but we do have our lodis ( Idol spell backwards) used for someone you admire so much that they became your idols

    Oshi no Ko (推しの子) is a pretty untranslatable title. Oshi (推し) literally means to push, but in slang refers to the idol you support the most. It’s like the person you stan. No (の) is simply possessive. The thing with ko (子) is that it means children (could also mean child; Japanese doesn’t have plurals), but could also mean young woman. So the title can mean “The Girl I Support the Most” or “The Idol I Support the Most’s Children.” It can refer to either Ai or her children. Oshi no also sounds similar to Hoshino, Ai’s family name, which has star in it. So sounds like Star Child or Star Children or Star Young Woman. This is where titles like My Star comes from.

      This right here is a very good example of why so much gets lost in translation with Japanese. The Monogatari series is another one. It is filled with double or even triple meanings that simply can't be translated into an easily parsable spoken english form that will flow properly.

    Just some thoughts:
    On 12:47 he chased after the stalker guy because he was concerned that the stalker dude would come back and maybe try and harm Ai (which he did since he did end up killing her) and also thought that maybe he would expose that she was with child. Which was kind of weird now that I think about it that he didn't do that.
    And on 13:01 Ai wouldn't be casual about it if she was raped. Not speaking for any women who have experienced that, but I'd assume that would be the typical response.
    Great video overall, I love the discussion of this show as I love this manga to death. Few manga have made me care about the characters and fear for where they would be heading. The type where you just want nobody to get hurt and for everyone to be happy.

    Supposedly, the reason idols are not supposed to have a partner is because they are also selling the illusion to the fans that they may one day be able to be with their favorite idol.

    • @nox_tech_
      @nox_tech_ Рік тому

      on a more practical level, even if an idol group doesn't have a rule against dating, and/or isn't about selling the idea of a single woman having any interest in a person, frankly...with a big enough fanbase (that doesn't keep itself in check), immature fans are emotionally stupid enough to end up feeling jealous on their own, and end up demanding that the idol be single anyway (regardless of gender of idol or fan). that'll happen with any attractive public figure eventually. actors and singers are obvious, but it could happen to anybody. with idol managers pretty much going "aight bet" and indulging that, that japanese idols be attractive (whether looks, talent, personality, and so on) makes idol fan culture particularly potent in stoking such feelings. that said, some idols do continue being idols after such things are leaked, and fans do stick around. but it's hard for entire industries to kick old habits, so the fantasy continues.

    • @djhz2001
      @djhz2001 Рік тому

      @@nox_tech_ What I said is mentioned almost explicitly in this first episode, though I can't remember which character said it. Still, I tried watching some idol anime of girls becoming idols, but I ended up very bored and dropped the shows. I guess I don't understand how some people feel becoming fans of someone, be them idols, singers, etc. I went to an Iron Maiden concert with some friends, and they were jumping and singing all excited. I like Iron Maiden a lot, but never to the degree of becoming a fan like them. So, from that perspective, it will be hard for me to understand how some of those more hardcore idol fans feel, but it is clear that at least a few may have some issues and idol fandom may be an escape from their circumstances. As you said, the industry does not necessarily have to encourage idols not to have partners for fans to want it to be that way, so in the end it's an issue of the human condition. Whether we like to admit it or not, most of us will at least have a phase where we are trying to escape from our problems. Idols are just one of the outlets where some people escape, and I can speak from experience since I have done a lot of escaping from issues at work that I am not able to solve but just have to figure out a way to live with. Watching anime for me is a hobby, but it is also a form of escape for me, and I don't think there is something wrong with it in particular. The issue becomes to which degree you are a fan, etc, to the point where it starts to affect others.

    • @nox_tech_
      @nox_tech_ Рік тому

      @@djhz2001 yeah not contesting what you said - i've heard it elsewhere too. just tossing it in that sometimes the idol agencies decide to put in a "no dating" rule, and sometimes the idol agencies end up having to put the rule in place.
      as for idol anime, glad you gave it a shot, but i suppose it's not for everyone and that's fine. generally, with japanese idols, there's a pretty low bar with starting to become an idol - an attractive idol, or one with an interesting personality could coast for a while on those things alone. the appeal is in finding the underdog, and being able to support them as they grow. anyone could be fans of idols, so interest doesn't need to be romantic/sexual, it can be platonic - if someone's picking their oshi, their fave, the idol might feel like an older sister, a fun cousin, a darling nephew, or a talented classmate they'd be happy to see succeed. i've seen some people describe going to idol concerts as a place for them to just lose themselves in the vibe and fun, basically. there's a variety of ways that people seek out idols to get some reprieve from their own issues.
      i'm glad you've nailed the understanding of things on the head. people need an escape, but absent of healthy means, things turn toxic and destructive.

    regarding "you shouldn't have to lie," i think when it comes to lies as she uses it, ai means her persona as a performer. while i only started with the manga and dunno if ai was expanded on any further, at this point in time, her personality does track for someone who was abandoned by her parents. that she answers before she thinks to be agreeable with whoever she's around kinda feels like a bit of a defense mechanism, whether due to her parents, or other circumstances in her childhood. do nothing but what others want, so unsure about what happiness really is, fear of love, thinking she's a "'people-hating liar." i can believe someone like that exists. if someone were to tell her to "just be you," that would be hard for her, because she doesn't even know who she is. when the president was scouting her and trying to convince her on the basis of basically "fake it til you make it," i think to her, that was an opportunity to change her circumstances and try to explore who she really can be for once. that she did find she truly loved her kids to me sounds like she did actually manage to find who she was, but she was scared to accept and acknowledge it until it was too late. to me, it paints the possibility that - while she had that sense of "imposter syndrome" going on - she probably did actually feel what she could. so there were moments she definitely faked, and her happiest moments were likely when she was with her kids since that's what her mind flashed back to. but in between, i'm sure she cried real tears for the struggles, laughed some actual laughs, and cared for others because she actually cared. as it is with most things, like with acting, you have to draw from something real. while she reserved her expressions of true love for her family she built, to create a persona that loves the fans, i think she did actually love her fans, in some looser form.
    some supplementary notes to expand on stuff for fun:
    - to give a sense of scale, most everyone wants to perform at budokan - a venue that's for them at the cultural scale of people wanting to perform at madison square garden. that b komachi was already at budokan when sarina was a patient shows the degree of their popularity. the domes in japan, to my recollection, are usually for baseball and could seat tens of thousands of fans (IIRC tokyo dome has one of the largest concert capacities at 55k). for any artist to tour exclusively at the 6 major domes is really big. but also, for that degree of popularity, in terms of probability, creeps and stalkers are also so much more likely - deluded shut-ins who didn't talk to anybody (or only talked online in toxic cesspools).
    - what the babies were doing is wotagei - calls and chants, mixes, and moves (waza). it's basically fans doing their part to return the energy from the idols and increase the hype, like a feedback loop of fun. that "oi! oi! oi! oi!" from the other fans is the typical call that's done to the beat - there's other calls that are also used depending on song structure and the specific song. mixes would be chants used during the intro or the instrumental break. one part of idol fan culture is that, while the calls are mostly whatever fits the rhythm, fans may organize and customize the calls for each song, and what mixes may be used (one might say the "babu babu babu babu" is the twins' "babu" mix lol). the waza, the moves that the twins were doing, are its whole entire thing. mainstream venues may only allow calls, chants, and mixes, but no waza. uchishi, those who are actively into wotagei, maybe even as its own dance subculture, would have their own groups (some are active on youtube, tik tok, and so on). technically you can theoretically apply wotagei to any song, and uchishi have their own fun making their own art of it.
    - what the twins were waving around were UOs. ultra oranges, aka UOs, are super bright glowsticks. UOs get _very_ bright lol. they stay bright for only a few minutes, so you usually snap them right at the part of the song that gets you most hyped. if you look at the other fans, they have penlights, battery-powered lightsticks, noticable because of the handles. some may sell depending on a specific idol's color. but there's general penlights that can swap between several colors. kpop def has lightsticks that operate similarly.
    - the abdominal aorta's the biggest artery in the body - that blood on the ground doesn't look like clothes were mopped across it - that blood's just spilling out so quickly, she can't stand up straight.

    I'm pretty much a full time parasocial that lives vicariously though media lol
    But I have a strong sense of what is reality and what is fantasy, to the point that I don't really understand how they are blurred in some peoples heads but apparently many really struggle with this.
    The way it all comes across to me is the illusion that Idols/stars represent and the delusion that some fans can take to the extreme.
    Like those that always hate on and attack an actor/actress for actions the character they are playing did.
    The rest of us are just like o.0 "You do know this is make believe, for entertainment don't you?"
    "Don't you?!?"

    The idea that an idol is "pure" began in the 80's with a very popular group called Onyanko Club that created a lot of the standard themes of idols that carried through the next 20 years with no dating rules and teary graduation concerts. The producer of that group actually disbanded the group to marry one of the members to clearly the fantasy wasn't that strong to begin with lol. He actually went on to produce AKB48 one of the biggest groups of the 00's and 10's after a stint as a TV producer for a music show.
    The thing is the rules are not even that common anymore lol. I know of lots of idols who have been in relationships that the fans knew about and didn't care, an idol who is married that still performs and the fans don't care and so on. Crazy fans do exist, AKB48 the aforementioned huge idol group seems to have one incident every few years including a guy who attacked an idol with a meat cleaver at a handshake event. I have no idea how he managed to sneak it anywhere near her since security at these events is usually tight, you can't carry your bag anywhere near them and have to put it in a bin and empty your pockets like in an airport security check. There have also been incidents of fans finding out where they live and coming to their home, sending unsolicited gifts and so on, many big agencies get into real estate and buy their own apartment blocks to house talent who come from outside Tokyo to work for them so it often means if fans can find where that is they can figure out where a bunch of idols live.
    While some people with mental health issues or people who get too obsessed with a one sided relationship can take things too far the majority of idol fans are pretty normal.

    My speculation (I haven't read the manga) for the motives of the father being an accomplice is that he's probably also in the entertainment industry as a male idol or actor and it would damage his career if it became known he fathered children out of wedlock. He and Ai probably hooked up casually and the pregnancy was unplanned, so they agreed to mutual secrecy and that she would raise them alone, but he tried to off her by proxy at the hospital, which wasn't successful. But then she kept the secret, so he didn't bother with a 2nd attempt since out-of-sight out-of-mind. She contacts him later and tries to get him involved in the children's lives (and presumably discloses her address), which spooked him, thus the 2nd murder attempt.

    Never thought about it, but by deciding to go throught with her pregnancy she basically decided to prioritize her children. In a hospital they will be delivered one way or the other, a lasting scar is no issue for a doctor to safe your life. Might be thinking a bit to much about it, but I think it´s still a thing on your mind if you´re in hospital for months.

    from the looks of it, Ai is ok with the kids meeting their father but the father aint
    from what i see, both kids inherit some of their parents skills Ruby got her mother's side
    while Aqua got the father's side (since none of his trait and skill set matched with his mother)
    therefore i conclude that their father is a well known actor (since Aqua is an actor type)

    I don't know anything about actual Idols. I love a lot of stuff that is Idol related. Alt-Idol groups are awesome. I was a huge Babymetal fan now I am a big fan of Atarashii Gakko.

    would you prefer Ruby to experience the same thing as Ai? sometimes ruby's dream/happiness doesn't necessarily make ruby safe, what you say is overprotective this is what parents in asia and the middle east do, this doesn't mean parents control their daughters, they still give freedom to their daughters, but they have to be able to assume the responsibility to maintain the honor and safety of herself

    I'm happy to admit I'm a hypocrite
    I love humanity but at the same time I hate it
    I love it for the ingenuity we've done and created but I hate it for the things we have in our minds like intrusive thoughts, etc. And those things can't be removed as long as humans exist

    16:47 parasocial relationship. And idols aren't allowed to have a boyfriend or worse - children. They're supposed to be pure virgin girls/women, that are entirely devoted to their fans.

    The dumb thing the doctor did at the beginning wasn’t following but actually confirming she was there in the first place. He had to chase to cover up that screw up or call the cops. Obviously it goes into his obsession that he would care enough about a near stranger to try and run that guy down but the big mistake was confirming she was there in the first place. Best possible thing to do would be to say “who it that” and then go back insaide and call the cops (the only issue there is in America you have to report people under 18 that are pregnant if they don’t let the father know but I don’t know about Japan and if they were acting illegally) but he is also a crazy fan so he acted emotionally.

      I don't think it would've mattered. The stalker was obviously getting info from Ai's ex-BF so the doctor playing dumb would not have done much.

    Haven't read the manga so this is just speculation. My guess is that the father is someone who probably is married or already has a family. Since Ai decided to have her children instead of terminating her pregnancy he leaked the info to the stalker.

    I am not into IDOL culture, but I heard being in a relationship is a big taboo. BTS nembers are some of the most successful idols, but they aren't in a (publicly known) relationship because it would go against the lies/illusion( in Ai's words) their fans want
