I did RAGBRAI back in 2012, and I took way too much clothing. But I kept it all separate Hefty Slide lock freezer bags. Those worked great. I just took way too many cloth. If I where to do the ride again, I would only take three pair of shorts, three "Jersey's". But I would take a clean pair of under where and socks for every day. Oh, I ride a two wheeled recumbent. So I don't need them fancy riding togs. As for money, I carried 30 dollars a day, but I had a Debit card, which I only used in Casey's and Restaurants. I carry my money in one of these little boxes, a Waterproof Sports Case, sometimes called a River Box. I had two, one for money, and one for every thing else. ID, Proof of Insurance, and so on. They have lanyards so I wore them, even in the shower. Keep all your money on you, at all times. In some kind of water proof box/pouch. I think now I would carry at least 40 dollars a day, but I do not drink beer, I am allergic.
I wear Shimano sandals during the warmer months and during RAGBRAI so I don't have to carry riding shoes and flip flops. Don't have to worry about getting hosed while on the bike either to cool down.
How about mesh bags or water resistant stuff sacks instead of plastic bags? Just get a waterproof duffel. I can’t imagine the amount of plastic waste Ragbrai produces every year!
It's a ton of plastic waste in each town with that many people, plates, cups, and so on. I've not found a mesh bag source for that gallon size. Our Patagonia duffel bags aren't waterproof, just water resistant. So I'm still using the zip locks. Which do get repurposed after the ride. I've also seen folks use the big dry bag like you'd see on a canoe trip. I feel the waterproof bags are out of many folks' price range, and they can use a bag they already have , beefing it up with the zip lock bags inside. Thanks for watching
@@philandthedash1682 you’re right, what the towns choose to use as far as plastic is not really in our control, but as bikepackers that enjoys camping in the woods, we can do our part individually. I’ve seen more mesh bags at canoe/kayak outfitters, even REI- water sports section. Naturally more likely near water recreation areas. Yes, most brand name waterproof duffels are priced too high, but there are some smaller companies who come out with decent ones at half the price of Patagonia.
Great job bud, perfect RAGBRAI info.
Ryno
Thanks. Hope you guys are safe after hearing about the big storms in the area.
What happened to their ferret? I feel bad for them. Very sad. Hopefully they can ride next year.

You're awesome man
Awe shucks. Thanks for the support
I am doing Ragbrai by myself but I am looking forward to me time among 20K strangers :) I am going with ‘Out Of Staters’ charter!
Best of luck! Potentially 20k opportunities to make a new friend
Shimano RAGBRAI Cycling Sandals? Who knew? Just ordered a pair.
Yeah. They are very popular. Thanks for watching

It’s a sad day when my ferret dies!!
Better days ahead, it's a process...

So if you don’t drink alcohol then $25/day. Got it :)
I do think if you take alcohol out of it $25 could still be tight.
