    How are you keeping the inside slippery enough to lift clay? That is my problem.

      Recycle your slip. Put the slip into your cylinder while throwing so that you reserved enough for shaping.

      I used to teach at a community college, community centers, a private studio and home studio. Since the pandemic I am suspending all the classes.
