    Dying your hair does not conceal your age. There are too many other “tells.” They may think you are younger at first glance, but not after that. I think rocking your natural silver makes you look confident and authentic, like you aren’t trying too hard. There can be a harsh, incongruous look to dark hair on an older woman. I don’t miss chasing those roots!

    When I saw a woman whose age was very hard to determine at a flea market, I literally stared in admiration. He hair was long, layered, floating about in the gentle breeze. It was the most beautiful silver grey...she still inspires me when I get those doubts

    Like Joni, I pondered going silver for a year and a half before the lockdown and then I just did it. I'm 5 mos. in and not looking back. I think my hair stylist is not too happy with me. When they opened the salon, we could only get one service and I had her cut my hair. When she suggested I make my color appointment, I broke the news to her that I wasn't coloring anymore. She was stunned and I understand because color is really the "cash cow" for salons but I'm still happy with my decision. Thanks so much.

    I've been coloring my hair since my teen's because of hereditary premature greying. I'm 55 now... that's a LONG time!! After a bad scalp reaction with my last salon dye, I decided I was done! My husband is my biggest fan and was really the one who pushed and inspired me to do it. I'm on my third month, and although VERY trying, he keeps inspiring me!!

      @@tamimoncrief2264I’m now over a year ( 14 months) and my silvers are fully grown in !! I have a layered curly bixie cut! Now I’ll be spending the next 2 years growing it long again!! I have salt and pepper and I LOVE the natural highlights! Been experiencing with using espresso overtone at times which fades to a light golden and then back to silver. I personally like the effect but it’s not for everyone as it CAN stain your silvers. It looks great with my natural dark hair! Can’t wait for the length to return! Hope you are still on your journey!

    Jonie has beautiful hair. I've been told I do, too. Your hair is a big part of your identity. I've been losing mine mainly because of hormone deficiency. I stopped doing hair coloring because I didn't want to cause any more loss. I use only organic non chemical hair shampoo and hair conditioner "Native" brand. I wanted to be more natural. I also started Nutrafol to help with regrowth.

    im on that journey myself the dye was really damaging my hair and it was breaking off and thinning. Thats when i decided its time to stop and the darker colors were also too harsh for my skin since its so much lighter now. Since i stopped dying its so much healthier and getting thicker again im loving it :)

    I've never heard anyone say what I feel..... I am so emotionally tied to my hair that it is everything about me....My hair is my best feature, my crowning glory, my reason for living....I know this sounds stupid but it is how I have always felt. I can't even take the chance to go gray even though I'd like to. I have lived life by how my hair is. I've always made sure my hair is always done and in place. Someone said one time, (I think it was my best friend) wash your hair at night, it will be faster to do the next day....I said, "Wonder if there is an emergency and I have to go to the hospital", "I can't let anyone see me with just washed and dried hair". I have always had to have mascara on and my hair done, (washed, dried, curled, fixed, and hair sprayed.) I have slacked off a little because of covid, I only wash and do it once every week and a 1/2. My curl stays in for a week or more. Just do a little brushing, spray. It is kind of silly, feel like I need a therapist.

    Jonie takes good care of your hair, styles it, and it looks nice. Having grey hair though does not mean one has to wear grey and silver or black and white. I think Jonie would look good with gold jewlery and wearing rich, warm shade colors. In her case I would not wear a black frame for glasses.

    Hearing Jonie say how emotional over her hair, oh gosh tears, I am worse, being age six papa left mom, he used to sit me on his lap comb my waist length hair call it his corn silk, so after he left, mom in a fit, took a straight edge razon and scalped me, let me with cuts on my head, I remember being in the tub, with blood dripping off my fingers, and crying, waring a scarf to school with cut mark on my head no hair, so to this day, no scarfs no hats no nothing going to a hair dresser makes me cry. Talk about emotional and no going to go cold turkey, perhaps this is why I wake up in tears and not know why. And I still remember this clear as day and I am in my 60's trauma is so Nuts

    I went grey almost a year ago. I definitely like the convenience of not dying my hair, but to be honest I'm on the fence of going back. I have always been young looking for my age, but when I look back a year before I started dying, I really feel this has aged me. My husband was completely supportive of this and still is, but I just don't like how I look with grey hair. I'm 54, but when I see picture of me with my hair, I feel deflated

    • @KatieGoesPlatinum
      @KatieGoesPlatinum  4 роки тому +2

      I keep really strict boundaries with people so if they tried to say something negative, I would respond with "well, I like it." And if they tried to continue with me (which luckily never happened!), I would say something like "I already told you I like it. It's not up for discussion."
      I wrote an article that has other ways of responding, that might help you: katiegoesplatinum.com/gray-hair-makes-you-look-older/
      and I'm sorry that they're acting that way. It sucks not to get support from your family. Just make the topic off limits and find friends who support you on this journey! You can join my group, Silver Revolution, if you need support. It's on Facebook :-). Good luck!

    If your husband or boyfriend is not supportive, it has nothing to do with you personally it has everything to do with how they feel it’s going to make them look. I told my husband I was going to do it and at first he looked at me strange and I said oh this is not about me, this is about you and how it’s going to make you look. It’s your insecurities. But now he loves my hair he called me the silver fox sexy woman.

    It is earlier to go gray when you are in your 50’s as opposed to being in your 70’s. Completely different. Josie I am in my 70’s and have salt and pepper like yours and I don’t like it. I am giving it 2 years and then if I am not happier than now I maybe going back to dying it. My hair has always been my best asset but now it does not shine and is much coarser than when I was dying it.
