This video kicked off my bizarre obsession with 80's epcot. Thank you so much for making me realize my weird early childhood memory of singing animatronic veggies wasn't just a strange fever-induced hallucination.
There are no words for how much I loved this show, and in my opinion, it still holds up fantastically. Such good music, well done Animatronic work, and memorable characters. Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit 4 life!
loved this aesthetic of animatronic, late 80's early 90's? just the way the animatronics were sculpted and the music was fascinating to me. wish i would've been able to see this in person
Me too. Despite going to Epcot in both 1990 and 1991, we never saw Kitchen Kabaret but I saw the characters in the pamphlets. Wish we saw it because it's a great show.
Thank you for this video. It brings me back to my visit to Epcot in 1988, during my 6 weeks in the US. The longest journey of my life, the most extraordinary. I love you America! It's a pity that I am Italian...
This attraction is long expired. Closed in 1994, replaced by food rocks 2 months later, that ran until 2004, shut down, and where the attraction used to be is where I'm pretty sure the queue for Soarin' is.
The audio animatronics in this show were better than what they have NOW at Monsters Inc. ride at Disneyland California Adventure. I saw this when I was very young. Maybe 4 years old. I will never forget seeing those singing veggies. Thank you Martin for all your work in digitally preserving these attractions, and for sharing them with the world.
showing my kids this video made them eat their veggies and meat they love this show so much. I fear the day i have to tell them they will never be able to see it live
I love how even after the Krackpots' show was over, the mustard saxophonist guy just kept spinning in circles. Guess he was having too much fun to stop! He certainly looks like he was entertained, lol! I know I'd get motion sick if I tried spinning in circles for so long!!
This show was awesome bro. I remember being their. It was so fantastic and amazing. The queue art is good and the sign never falls to impress me. I have such good memory and I even know the songs.
The strength of this show was that it wasn't trying to be current and hip. It was deliberately retro, even for 1982. It emulated the musical styles of bygone decades, but it wasn't just a jukebox show of parodies. Food Rocks, by contrast, was trying way too hard to be hip and ended up dating itself.
That was probably why food rocks made such a bad impression on me as a kid. If I was old enough to have seen Kitchen Kaberet, I'd have fonder memories of this. In addition, Food Rocks was an autistic kid's worst nightmare; way too loud. My auditory sensitivity was real bad back then. KK was smoother, easier on the ears. Not to mention: KK's animatronics seem much better.
when krafts sponsertship expired nesle came in and closed it down food rocks came in and when nesles sponsertship expired they brought soarin over Thats The Story
Thanks for posting this. While I was too young to remember, I was at Epcot several times in the 80s. I know I have seen this because the broccoli really stood out to me and he was very familiar. Great times.
If only all the attractions in Epcot combined fun and education like this one did. Who knows, universe of energy, world of motion, maelstrom and the living seas might still be open!
Connor Antalek this was made at a time when the music was relevant and popular. This show was one of the first attractions that Epcot had when it opened and it remained popular till they re-changed it, that's why the music remained that way for the longest time. Disney at the time wasn't about pop culture and changing to the latest trend it was about stepping back in time and enjoying a past that is no longer with us. Not this pop culture trash we have now..
I'm sad.... I've never seen food rocks or ever been in this building... to know it's still standing in Epcot and I see it all the time when we go.... I really want them to open it back up!
Interesting to note- Towards the end of Kitchen Kabaret's run, the show changed sponsors, and to reflect that the Mayonnaise animatronic was repainted to look like a jar of spaghetti sauce and the barbecue sauce bottle was repainted to look like a bottle of salad dressing
One of my favorite past gems of Epcot! Veggie FRUIT FRUIT! Also is the voice of the announcer the same guy as the "Please stand clear of the doors, por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas" monorail voice?
An outdated show, Kitchen Kabaret was hosted by the unexcited Bonnie Appetite, who was joined by animatronic kitchen cans and pots who performed healthy-eating-themed tunes to hits of the 1950s, which were distant from the time that Kitchen Kabaret existed. In addition, the USDA had changed its food chain system by 1992. Disney was definitely right in retiring this attraction.
I'm not disputing whether Soarin' is a great attraction. It is, I love it. The music is amazing. It's just a shame that one by one, all the animatronic attractions are being taken away. Food Rocks / Kitchen Cabaret, although I never saw either in person, is was a very clever way of teaching people about the food groups with some very catchy ditties. I am sad that you don't see it that way.
I miss this show! I missed Food Rocks too! I think I confused them with each other but I liked both! I hope maybe someday they can bring them back at least to help the lines for Soarin be a little easier and a place for people to go to cool off and have some good old fashioned fun. :)
I never seen Kitchen Kabaret or Food Rocks, but I got to say that Kitchen Kabaret has better soul and more entertainingly funny that a authentic Disney show should have, which is why Food Rocks is so bad.
