Your dad's fantastic for having recorded this. The first time I remember seeing this was Now is the Time's version. I'm fully a It's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow fan, but Now is the Time wasn't even wrong. We had some pretty big tech jumps that started in the 80's and early 90's.
Lizzy, I agree - I was there in 1981 with my parents and grandparents and when we would leave the park at night, we would all sing this on the way back to the hotel..... WONDERFUL memories... ❤❤
THIS 80's version is closer to the original 60s version than the current version which has been in place since mid 90s / 2000s version still in use today. The only difference of this 80's version and the original 60s is the voice actors and the obvious song change. Probably coz it's the first version I heard at the end of the 80's to about 1992. ☺ Great upload by the way! 😉
McKenna_Wagner I wish I went to Disney when If You Had Wings was still around. First time I went was 1990. I love Dreamflight but Wings looked pretty cool from the videos I've seen on UA-cam
+ibrake4butterflies Thanks, my father recorded this. He bought a video camera in 1978. The camera itself was heavy and huge, then you had to carry the VCR which was very heavy and huge also. Plus a bag with about 10 large batteries. Very difficult to record back then......
+VideofromGeorge I know. The camera, the vcr over the shoulder and the heavy giant batteries. I'm amazed. I'm sure he never know that 30 something years later he would bring this into lots of people's living rooms. I'm very grateful . My dad saw this at 1964 Worlds Fair. I love this ride. I'm not sure why, but I just do. TFS.
Great Video George, How comes he never updated the camera in 1981 when he went then-They were so much lighter but still had to carry battery bag, By 1982 as you know you didn't need one of those and by 1983 they-Videocamera started to reduce in size
Thank you for posting this. I remember seeing this version of the Carousel of Progress when I visited the Magic Kingdom in 1978. Act IV has been updated at least 2 times since then, which I have seen. But I like this version very much. It would be even better if Disney restored the original version as seen at Disneyland when this attraction first opened in the late 1960s. I have never seen Act IV circa 1968.
This is the version I grew up with, I like the voice actor that does the father and "Now is the Time" I think it's funnier that the current one. I like the current one with all the holidays, but it's more a list of historical facts, this one is about social progress as well as the technological advances that come with electricity, and I miss the New's Years Eve from Walt Disney World on the TV at the end

I found a video of the new carousel but the changes they have made are not for the better someone the human touch has been taken away.. Bless you for this gift. It took me back to my teenage years and being at the park with my family. This was one of my Mom's favorite attractions may she rest in peace...

GooglFascists Apparently, the original song is the one that is there now, but they changed it because GE didn't want people thinking that there's "a great big beautiful tomorrow" to buy their products, and so they changed it, to make people think that "now is the time" to buy their products, rather than having so much time to buy them. The song changed back after the contract ended.
Joseph Parodi the song at the World’s Fair was “Now is the Time” same as in this video. When the contract ended they changed it to what the Sherman brothers and Walt wanted. The voice was also Rex Allen.
Wrong. "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" was the song at the Far and the 1967-73 Disneyland program was the same as the Fair. When the attraction moved to Florida it was completely overhauled with the new song, which reflected more caution ("Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow's" sentiments were badly out of date in the mid-70s) and a totally new voice cast. The father in this version was Andrew Duggan.
Take a serious note on this one, The Lip movement and animation on this version was much better than todays version. Disney is pissing me off because there not taking care of this attraction,

Hopefully they update it soon cause in the second scene the lips on the man isnt moving and some of the speakers are getting bad and are lower than the others
its actually because of all the PC people now where they have changed the entire speaking track for this ride to not offend certain people. YES Disney could take the time to change the mouth movement but I would rather see the original ride instead of the Shell of its former self that is now due to PC bullshit.
What are you talking about? The dialogue is nearly the same and some more adult jokes have been added in ("Don't tell your mother"). The dialogue and show had to be updated because1) General Electric is no longer a sponsor of the show and 2) the finale had to be updated, so all the voices had to be updated since the voice actors were no longer around. The ride should reflect, to a degree, the language appropriate to the current times. It’s the carousel of PROGRESS. The theme song was changed back to the original played at the world's fair to think about the future, also because of the end of the GE contract.
no, it just looks that way because of the low video quality. If you look at HD footage shot on 35mm from the 64 worlds fair you can see the lip movements are the same.
The narrator/father in this version of COP which ran at WDW from 1975-1993 is Andrew Duggan, best known for the TV series "Lancer" and also the movie "In Like Flint". This is also one of the latest points in time for the original Act IV which was redone later in 1981 with new voices for the other characters save Duggan's father and remained part of the show through 1993.
I'm not sure how my mom put up with me using almost all of our "E" tickets going back to this show over and over. Probably the only thing we visited more often than "It's a Small World." Something about it spoke to my child-brain.

The current version of the carousel is actually the original played at the New York World's Fair 1964 1965. Now is the time was only used when the ride was still G.E. and came back to the east coast from Disneyland.
Exactly. The current version is a creaky 1990s version that overlays the 64 song into a PC infested nostalgia trip with Jean Shepherd's doofus father and has nothing to do with the theme of progress. People have to get past their antipathy to the song change in this version to realize that this version was much truer to the spirit of the original but couched its message in less grandiose terms to fit in with the more cautious and more cynical 1970s where people had a much more jaded view of progress than they did in 1964 (as evidenced by how people stopped caring about spaceflight after the moon landing or didn't think about building big future cities of tomorrow like the original EPCOT design would have been).
Dave D sorry pal you're wrong there. In terms of script, THIS 80's version is closer to the original than the inferior 90s / 2000s version still in use today. The only difference ofvthe 80's is the voice actors and the song.
@@SteveCarras No. Rex Allen was the voice in the World's Fair and Disneyland version. When the COP came to Florida in 1975 it was totally redone and this version is the original 1975 version where Andrew Duggan is the voice of the Father. Later in 1981 they redid Act IV and brought in other voices for the supporting players with Duggan redoing his new lines (Acts 1-3 stayed unchanged) and that version was the one that remained in place with only some minor tweaks until 1993.

Man this ride used to have a long line, now when you go there’s hardly a line at all. Just shows unpopular it is now and it makes me sad. I hope Disney keeps it for a long time even though it’s not as popular as it used to.
Thank you! This is the version I always knew, with the General Electric song - I’m not a fan of “Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow.” “Best Time of Your Life” will always be the Carousel of Progress theme to me.
when they moved the ride from disneyland, they changed the song to "the best time of your life", but they changed it back in 1994 as a tribute to nostalgia
MrJonswift200 Apparently, the original song is the one that is there now, but they changed it because GE didn't want people thinking that there's "a great big beautiful tomorrow" to buy their products, and so they changed it, to make people think that "now is the time" to buy their products, rather than having so much time to buy them. What a shame this version isn't still playing at Disney World. For one thing, its elimination of the annoying "Carousel of Progress" song is a huge improvement.
+Rick M Yes because there IS NO "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, shining at the End of Every Day". 100 million Americans are unemployed; their jobs GONE FOREVER overseas, while Disney World hires Mexicans and lays Americans off.
Rick M I've commented this a couple of other times, but... GooglFascists hell it's mostly Hispanic population in the park as it is. We went yesterday at MK and damn .. instead of "most magical" .. try "most populated" on Earth! The ghetto still shows up but the border runners out number them exponentially. Honestly I think most are like Brazilian so that falls into like Portuguese but I've had pleasant conversations with most of them. Dude I met from the Bronx was cool too but the local natives of African decent were pretty much assholes. Not to take away from the local white douche bags as well that express theirselves with tasteless body art. Yes, I spoke my mind. Get over it.
My uncles been telling me about this song.....now I’ve heard it. Love the changes done to the shows over the years. I wish the Tiki room still had the new...now old Under new management with Iago & Zazu.
The very first time they ran this ride in disneyworld the worker running the controls was killed you can find video of it here on youtube you dont have to take my word for it look it up
Jonathan Dimmick Sorry, but you are incorrect. The death you're talking about happened at Disneyland and it was not Carousel of Progress. It was America Sings (which replaced COP when it was moved to WDW). And the accident happened 9 days after America Sings opened in the summer of 1974, not the very first time the show ran. When the Carousel Theatre housed COP at Disneyland, the theatre rotated clockwise around the central stage area. When it was switched to America Sings, they also reversed the way the theatre seating area rotated, making it go counter-clockwise, which meant that the walls moved towards each other on the left-hand side of the stage and closed in place to separate each theatre from its neighbors. An 18 year old cast member got too close to the wall of her stage. Apparently her theatre was empty and she was supposedly talking with a cast member in a neighboring theatre. So when the theatre started to rotate, the poor girl became trapped between a stationary wall and the wall that rotated with theatre. A guest in the theatre next door heard the cast member's screams and alerted staff, but by the time they found the cast member, she had been crushed to death. In response to the accident, Disneyland installed sensor lights which alerted the ride’s operators if anyone moved too close to the walls. Later the ride was fitted with breakaway walls designed to prevent a repeat of the incident even if the sensor system failed.
From what I can find there have been 6 different versions of this attraction.

This was the first song version I'd ever heard
Ah I see the last segment was different from when I went in 1990! It's the only one out of the 4 that was different from 1990.
Wow! So that's the old version from old days by Disney himself? Is it the original one?
I think the original one was a 1960’s scene at the end, this one is either 70s or 80s
The original was the World’s Fair/Disneyland version
7:48, Lol! 😄
headbanging 😂
General Electric would end its sponsorship in 1985.
The current version of the carousel is actually the original played at the New York World's Fair 1964 1965. Now is the time was only used when the ride was still G.E. and came back to the east coast from Disneyland.
The current version is not the original version...
The only difference ofvthe 80's is the voice actors and the song.
you know dat ge is genil ealick
Are the saints playing
Is jane suppose to be the girl in act 1
What was it back then about calling your wife 'mother'??
A line for COP??? Kids today don't know what they are missing! WDW needs more Carousel of Progress and less IP!
THIS ONE HAS THEDOG NAME CHANGE AS IT PROGRESSES IN TIME.
Wow!!!!!!!!!!! Now this is old!!!!! How did they have video cameras back then!!???????
R.i.p Andrew duggan
For some reason, the father sounds different. Did he get a new va?
Yeah, Rex Allen was the original from around 1964*-1977**
*New York World's Fair
**Early years at Disney World
Frankly, I prefer him...
Aparently i was mistaken aparently it was another version of the attraction i apologize and i enjoy being corrected it just shows me im not perfect thankyou for bringing my mistake to my attention
see the was america sing what happend was the worker went inbetween the theatres and tripped or fell and it was moving the other way against were the worker went and was killed but it cant happen again
♥️
the song is different now anyone know when they changed it?
when they moved the ride from disneyland, they changed the song to "the best time of your life", but they changed it back in 1994 as a tribute to nostalgia
MrJonswift200
Apparently, the original song is the one that is there now, but they changed it because GE didn't want people thinking that there's "a great big beautiful tomorrow" to buy their products, and so they changed it, to make people think that "now is the time" to buy their products, rather than having so much time to buy them. The song changed back after the contract ended.
@@jonathanmaxwell6763 Not after, they changed it after the major refurb in 94.
Great to see Michael Jackson in the show at 15:53
lol
Where is the grandpa in act 4
He’s there
#carousel of #Progress
What does this guy do? His poor wife
Didn't they change the name of the dog
In this version they change the name of the dog in each era. Rover, Queenie, Sport and Sport again. The details were better then.
@@ibrake4butterflies733 In Act II in the 60's version, he was called Buster. Today, he's named Rover throughout the whole show.
I watched this to confirm my indoctrination.
Yep. One example is @ 13:10 in, when the message is, women deserve equal pay.
Yikes what song are they singing?
The song “Now is the Best Time of your Life” is catchier than “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow”
Boy did he she get perssion to tape this last time vid this I tried to but they raise a big hissy fit
18:38 they turned sarah into michael jackson!
Ohoho, Women have rights now
It just isn't the same without you a great big beautiful tomorrow. I do like the voice acting and movement in this version, but I just can't enjoy it as much.
What a shame this version isn't still playing at Disney World. For one thing, its elimination of the annoying "Carousel of Progress" song is a huge improvement.
+Rick M Yes because there IS NO "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, shining
at the End of Every Day". 100 million Americans are unemployed; their jobs
GONE FOREVER overseas, while Disney World hires Mexicans and lays Americans off.

There's a great big beautiful tomorrow. It was a better song.
