      would be amazing, calisthenics and gymnastics world has more to offer these guys in terms of our understanding of biomechanics, and how we can use it to be strong and resilient, than we give ourselves credit for.
      similarly, these folks have a lot to feed back into our world that will improve our training and performance to the next level, using their learnings from training specifically the lower body for resilience, and applying the same principles to a calisthenics athlete or a gymnast sprucing up their shoulder girdle for better performance (aka what rings are for).
      overlap between calisthenics / gymnastics and physiotherapy is actually quite a bit, looking at history, with gymnastics starting out as a way to build resilience and mobility in the body - eliminating weakness, pain, and restrictions in the process.
      it would really take our fitness space to the next level of enlightenment, frankly, to have discussions like these where what seemed like utterly disparate perspectives converge onto a greater level of understanding of fitness, training, and of the human body in itself.

    the funny thing with alan saying that calisthenics (and gymnastics, all acrobatics etc.) is like circus tricks, is that strongman is also from the circus.
    acrobats and strongmen were two kinds of strength athletes who both showed off their skills at circus, so literally both are supposed to seem inaccessible and cool to the general public.
    but when you start training it demystifies itself pretty quick, and it all comes down to progressive overload and specific adaptations to imposed demands.

    Thank you for the video, I found out that investing is not for everybody, you just need a strong stomach too see your portfolio go down. It might be wiser for a novice to start with copy trading investing, but it is not easy. To invest in growth stocks it is another level, definitely you need to know what are you doing.

      From my own point of view, you need to invest smartly if you need the good things of life. so far i've made over $255k in raw profits from just 6 months into the market from my diversified portfolio strategy and i believe anyone can do it you have the right strategy, mutual funds takes long time but investing smartly is the key for short term. Most of us tend to pay more attention to the shiniest position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.

      She is a popular broker you might have heard of. I can correctly say she's worth her salt as a financial advisor as her diversification skills are top notch, because i see that in her results as my portfolio grows by averages of 10 to 15% on a monthly basis, unlike i can say for my IRA which has just been trudging along, my portfolio just mirrors what she trades and not just on some particular industries of my choosing.

    I do weighted side planks and never knew the divide in half to get rep equivalent. Thanks for useful. I did some calisthenics in the park during the Covid lockdown since all NYC gyms were closed down, I added weights I bring in a shopping cart that would break every time, so I pushed it broken to add resistance like a sled to the outdoor equipment. I would train using structured improvisation, but honestly have limited knowledge, and still deadlifted up to 520 pounds on an 80-year-old cold steel bar that did not bend at all at home. Knowing a rep conversion for time under tension as a powerlifter for static holds is useful since I carried over any useful callisthenic exercises to my powerlifting since the lockdown,

I would not have to improvise to target specific areas or smaller muscle groups directly. A device for everything. What gym is that? Is there one in NY? I do not have access to a car so within public transportation distance?

    Great pod as always. None of the non-calisthenic guys really know how hard calithenics is, all the super heavy guys just bash it (like mike isreatal) cause they cannot do the feats of strength we can do. Alan is one of the first ones who actually gave it respect and bothered to be open minded about calisthenics from the powerlifting / strong man world.
    Just to show im unbiased i am an elite level powerlifter who can do hspu, 1 arm pull ups, front lever etc so no bias here

    • @pomperidus
      @pomperidus 11 місяців тому +2

      I do not think Mike is truly bashing callisthenics, it is just that he is extremely hypertrophy focused, which means that even if it is extremely impressive and challenging he will pay little attention to feats that are involving a lot of technique, balancing, isometrics, or a rep range that is unpractical for hypertrophy, or simply does not have a good stimulus to fatigue ratio. But if a good old wide grip pull-up is challenging for 15 reps he will not dismiss it.

    Question for the experienced: i have no issues upping weights on chins/neutral grip pulls every week (currently @ 87kg 6'1 12kg added weight for 6 reps clean pause at top) and yet i cant seem to exceed 8 reps 3 sets for non weighted chins. Am i simply overestimating the carry over of focusing on strength vs higher reps?

    I am able to overhead press 30 kg with a 25mm barbell and I found out that I was also VERY easily able to lift a 15 kg suitcase overhead with poor grip clasping and asymmetrical grip widths around the suitcase. Does the argument that barbells don't translate into everyday strength apply to novices as well?
