Might be merited in the experience for many, but you lose the people's voice when you disregard the general moderate people.

The way Democrats gained popularity from the 90s to maybe 2010 was to stand in rational opposition to a party pandering to a blinkered crowd of identity politics "football fans", actively looking for confirmation of their "correct" opinions. The problem is that the new generation of Democrats have become the same thing they opposed but for a different "footbal team". And it is seriously dangerous.

Now, people are suggesting the leader who has finally united this group, step down and expose the party to a tumultuous primary fight 10 months before the general election? And what’s the reason for this? Because of the optics that he’s too old for office?

The media's obsession with the age of the candidates is a worry.
Frank Lloyd Wright was in his 90s when he designed the Guggenheim.
Rather than age, surely ethics and intent are more important?
Any and every POTUS is just the figurehead for the multiple teams of (hopefully) very capable elected candidates and dedicated public servants.

Always a pleaasure to see a John Stewart interview, but it is worth examining what publications like The Economist really stand for - and it's the centre-right economic concensus that got us to this benighted point in the first place. It's unsurprising that so many have found that a system that deliberately benefits an ever smaller percentage of the population is unappealing - and once again those who offer simplistic answers to complex problems accrue disproportionate popularity - they're effectively symptoms of the policies enacted over the past forty years. (Apologies for the rant, really nice to see JS back on the Daily Show)

I'm afraid in his zeal to appear balanced he will keep overcorrecting with "serious guests" like this one. Bad move Jon. I'm disappointed. This is an out of touch Brit with relic 90s politics and no particular insight into the American moment. That, and his apparent idea that doubling down on Biden gaffes will make make people understand how Trump is worse, almost make me wish he'd stayed on Apple TV.

Came here to say much of the same; Neoliberalism is what got us into this mess; where Fascists of all stripes can flourish under the economic protections & privatizations of, by, and for the rich allow for a subset of already wealthy individuals to further encroach upon the rights of the many. The control seized by the wealthy over everyday political and economic decisions of various western countries has been the reason why the desperate and foolish cling to Trump, Le Penn, and others and the Economist and their ilk see little problem, so long as the brunch menu's options haven't been curtailed.
Poor choice for a 1st guest with little to no rebuke of the overarching ideology and downstream effects. Still pleased Jon is back, however. Hopeful for better guests later.

People ask why I support President Biden and I tell them that he surrounds himself with experts in their fields whose advice he takes. I also tell them about his stance that Israel should not have a war of revenge because he supported that after 9/11 and he realized that it was a mistake that solved nothing and caused a lot of problems. I like someone who uses their past experience to alter their current views, especially when they were wrong before and understand that they need to change. Just those 2 things place him far above his rival.

This is wild. Watching a much more substantiative and incredibly informative discussion on foreign policy and the current state of the world on a comedy program instead of the actual news. I haven't seen anything like this on normal news channels in years. Crazy how much people can discuss when they're interested in honest conversation and giving people knowledge they can work with instead of inflaming political division.

I love this show/host. Going to college for my economics degree many years ago we would study this as a way to approach data explanation. For mathematical individuals like us, it was helpful to understand a layman's approach that was intellectual in essence...after living in multiple countries and speaking multiple languages I look back on this program as a tool for those responsible for making key decisions. Jon Stewart has indirectly become a professor for the millineal generation in more ways than one
