Amazing. It's like the embodiment of what people in the 80's thought the future would look like. This would look at home in Alien yes, but also Blade Runner, Tron, Highlander 2, Terminator, Robocop and Total Recall. Basically any 80's movie set in a dark or dystopian future.
We don't talk about Highlander 2...
There can only be one lol
lancer D *one of those movies.
By that I mean the 1st one.
If Master Chief ever needed to open cardboard boxes, that's the knife he'd use.
I think Master Chief would make a damn good mover.
Lol when he falls of the moving truck he dies from falling 2feet lol
+marco “t500” jonker Nah, that's only if there is water below him.
loot boxes
I got myself the black version of this knife and I absolutely love this blade almost a year ago. I thank this video for it.
The angles are so it isn't detected on enemy radar lol
XD
Steve Brule Almost correct
Doroteo Alvarez So what's the real purpose?
I like this knife - beautiful gem-like design, very fast opening. It would look more sleek without the thumb disc in my opinion, but as a whole - it's very smooth looking even with all the edges. Also it appears to be equally easy to use with left and right hand.
80's Tron vector looking stuff is my favorite aesthetic.
The alien movies? Hell no; too cyberpunk for alien. I'd say Blade runner or Tron.
Or Halo
YES the new MAGIC assist opening schrades are pretty nice!
Shades of grey?
How many?
49.
I think you mean, Schrades of grey.
Keegan Lampe I like the way you think.
of course a brony would say that
Keegan Lampe 50 Schrades of Gray
the square thumb disk acts as an emerson wave. it catches on your pocket so it automatically deploys as you take it out
Thx for the info! I honestly thought that it shaped like that for aesthetics.
holy crap I have this knife now its even more awesome
I'm a sucker for cyberpunk stuff. I got this knife after seeing this review. I think it's wonderful, thank you for this review.
bro I wasn't sure what to think about ya at first but I keep agreeing with you on so many points and opinions, I was finishing your sentences before this vid was out.
I... want one.... it is the most beautiful knife i have ever seen.
For the thumb disc it's not just for the thumb it can be used to catch the pocket and open the knife instantly
I think there might be another con: If I am right you had the problem that the knife already opened up while you were pulling it out of your pocket. This happened when you were talking about the belt clip. So this means if you forget to lock the safety it might open unintentionally and maybe even cut you.
That weird thumb stud thing is supposed to catch on the pocket as you draw it out, so that taking the knife out of the pocket and unfolding it occur in the same movement. It looks like you did it by accident at 9:11
with that finish, and that price...might just be my nest knife, thanks for showing it!!
You can use thumbplate/disc for snag or wave opening. Also thumbplate could be usefull if spring brake or fail.
Hey, I know it's been a while, this video has been uploaded, and I'm not sure you are still following the comments here, but the front disk you talk about on the back of the blade is made to allow you to put your thumb on it, when you are trying to cut into something tough or hard. It's quite more comfortable than a bare tiny steel back. ^^
I like the iridescent finish on the frame, and the sort of tanto point.
You gotta take a look at the Böker Magnum Sergeant, absolutely awesome budged folding knife.
I actually ended up putting some fabric around the clip and bending it out ever so slightly. Loosened the clip perfectly and it works great now.
I WANT IT!!!
The cons that are listed don't bother me because I just collect and this looks amazing!
so if the flipper isnt attached to the blade, wouldnt that make it a "button" and not be an assisted but an auto? specially if you take off that thumb plate, could get flack if your in an area where autos are no nos.
That "thumb disc" is actually a pocket catch like many cold steel knives use, check out videos on how they work, it would be cool if you made your own vid about them!
That's the point I was trying to get across on one of your other videos. Often it's just the cool factor that makes it worthwhile even if the knife isn't perfect.
It looks like it should be in the Bungie game Destiny! I agree that the text helps with that futuristic illusion. I'm going to get one soon. Thanks again for a great video Sir.
Wow. I'd just get this for looks. It looks amazing!
oh damn, check out the Smith&Wesson SWMP3BS. It's a very similar knife but with more mild design choices. Surprisingly all the patents are EXACTLY the same, except the SWMP3BS has an extra one. Hands down the SWMP3BS is the nicest knife I have ever held, and its manufactured by Smith & Wesson so you know its nice and solid. They have different models but the tanto blade is always my favored one.
Just to clear something up the "thumb disk" is made for quick deployment from the pocket. Identical to the Cold Steel Ak47.
cool knife i would like it more in a different color, it has that same color you always see on cheap 5 dollor knives that they use to make it more "pleasing to the eye" by the way you should do a asian sword special, especially info when buying something like a katana, i found you're video about "starting a sword collection"(sorry if i got the title wrong) so helpful and i already used so much of your advice
You can get the grey/black version in Budk, a smith & Wesson knife
Shades of gray, but are there 50?
The colors bring covenant weapons to mind. I find it quite beautiful.
Imagen if you had a little energy blade coming out of it. Yeah, its pretty covenant-esque, but more geometric and hard unlike the covenant's smooth, elegant, round, flowing style.
We can only hope for that type of technology in the future lol. Although it's shape doesn't match the smooth, flowing structure of covenant weaponry/ships/etc., I personally think the angular aesthetic fits this blade better than a smoothed one would. Just my opinion though.
Nick Kapp It's a very Forerunner-esque blade.
themastermason1 That actually makes a lot more sense than my first thought. In person it is even more badass. I've had it for a few months now ^_^
Josh Pressley Although, it could pass as a hybrid weapon forged after the sangheili/human alliance. (Third chapter of the master-chief saga (I.E. halo 3))
the whole entire time i was watching this i was thinking about killing zombies with it xD
this is cool, i would actually buy this knife, but i have no reason to own a knife although im sure i can find some use for it eventually like peeling an orange i guess
I use them to slay my foes a.k.a presents with socks inside
New socks are super comfortable tho
+zemeon2 Whoa. That's actually a good idea.
Could you do a video on Canadian knife laws? I've been wondering what is legal or not for everyday carry.
really like the design on this one, but ive heard they go dull pretty fast even if not using them
I don't quite understand the flipper arrangement on this blade. I'm sure it would cause a lot of problems in the UK where the only distinction made by the law between automatic (illegal) and assisted-opening (legal) is that assisted-openers like a Kershaw Leek have flippers which are part of the blade.
The working definition used by British Police for automatic knives is basically a blade actuated by a button or other mechanism that does not require touching the blade itself. I'm no expert, of course. What do other people think?
for you that want to know about the steel of the blade, its not carbon steel, and it technically isn't "stainless" how were used to either. this blade actually is Molybdenum steel, you can tell this by it's indicated 4000 series number, 1000 series would be your carbon steel. chromium is primarily used for our stainless steel, but it can be improved by adding Molybdenum. chromium steel would have a usually a 800 series. that's your typical stainless steel blade.
Like the look of the knife, very geometric/futuristic. Looks a bit bulky though. The assisted opening mechanism though...it seems to be the exact same concept as the Overdrive system Kershaw uses on the Od-1 and OD-2. I'm wondering if it just seems similar but isn't, if they ripped it off from Kershaw or if they received permission to use it?
Does it have a thumb disk perhaps in case the wielder is already missing a finger? So making it easier?
Would definetly buy it, really really cool knife
Really peculiar and interesting look, I like it! Reminds me of knives that British SAS forces use.
Now THIS... Is a nice weapon/tool/device.
Indeed, it is a nice weapon/tool/device/object/knife/thing.
this review helped me make up my mind to buy one. nice reviews
Can this be used for self-defense?
the Kershaw brawler's flipper comes back around and acts as a finger guard , pretty nice , but as far as this knife , its strange , but looks good
I'm sure you may have done a video on this or talked about it off subject in another video.
My question is: How long can Knife be before it would be considered to be short sword?
If you did a video on that can you please send a link. I'm just curious about this.
If you make a video on this subject question some neat examples to compare would be cool.
I wet my pants a little when i first saw this knife.... I also wet my pants a little when tye amazon price is less than half Schrade's price. Will DEFFINETLY be getting one of these to replace my cheap chinese folder i got a while back! Thanks for the review!
haha I agree with the "random data" look of the patent. I'll consider buying one!
I have a similar folding knife, an Asaklitt I forgot the mode of, and this seems a bit dangerous in comparison. From the footage, it seems like there is no thumb guard at all! Especially when you're camping, and have a handy folding knife to cut the food, you may get some greasy fingers, and with n thumb guard, that's just asking for cuts when closing. Other than that, the knife looks decent, and also really cool.
The "dissapearing" flipper is very similar to the Kershaw OD1 and OD2, and (in my opinion at least) those knives are much better looking. In a similar vein, there is the GTC Airborne (but the price range on this one is...well it's a custom knife). My all time favourite though is the NFF (non-flipper flipper) by Stan Wilson which is just a marvel of engineering in my opinion.
Tri-ad Lock superiority! You can Baton wood with it and it will still function flawlessly.
can you do a video on your opinion of gerber knives?
can you review the wasp gas injection knife? it may be expensive, but how cool is that?
Congratulations! You just acquired an undercover Decepticon.
I think the text on the blade adds to the futuristic design
That thing look AWSOME! I heard of that steel in a discussion about dentists tools^^
hey skall, have you made any videos on kukris?. if not could you?
The finish would be properly called Two-Toned or somewhat Iridescent. Reminds me of a bottle fly carapace.
You should review the black legion
are there 50 shades of grey?
This looks pretty cool! Too bad none of the online shops ever ships to the Netherlands :/
honestly i would really like to have one of these in the "weirder" color scheme. however, i would prefer to keep the blade shape but different material probably cold steel or carbon steel. On a last note i do like the "random Data" on the one side of the blade. I too think in a strange way it adds to the "futuristic" design. sorry for all the quotes.
that is an interesting handle on that one but i would rather have a modified clip point or a regular drop point unless you would rather use it for self defense.
From www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d19/d19-13-2-eng.html :
"An automatic knife that houses a blade that will open automatically by hand pressure applied to a *lever or button in or attached to the handle (but not on the blade) of the knife*. The blade is released by pressure on the lever or button, and opens with the assistance of an internal spring or mechanism."
Therefore, that particular Schrade can be seized at Canada Customs because the *lever* that spring-opens the blade out is *not attached to the knife blade, but to the handle*.
I like the UV paint!
ugh want it so bad , but unfortunatly i live in holland and spring assisted are prohibited here... :'(
Isn't a belt clip used to put the knife on your belt?
You are a man with an exquisite taste
Most of the knives you have reviewed are no longer on hrknives
If by futuristic you mean uncomfortable as all hell then yes. I do like that coating though. the way it changes colors based on the angle you view it at is neat. I would like to see black with red when you view it at an angle.
It's actually not uncomfortable because the edges are rounded off.
***** I will have to tale your word on it then.
I was thinking it would look at home in startrek. It's kind of half way between romulan and cardassian.
That iridescent color reminds me of (over) aged beef. ;) The hidden flipper is like the Kershaw Overdrive.
I think this is a very cool looking knife. A lot of hard angles and abrupt edges. Reminds me of a futuristic version of cubism.
I personally think of this as a collectible knife for display purposes. As Skallagrim stated, it doesn't have the highest carbon content for a knife, which is unfortunately, because the more Carbon you have in a knife, the sharper it can get, and the longer it holds it edge.
In my opinion, if I wanted a knife I could use as an EDC for everyday cutting utility tasks, I would want something like 440C, AUS-8A, 8Cr13MoV, 8Cr14MoV, or Sandvik 14C28N, something with a high Carbon content for sustained sharpness. For higher end steels, I would prefer 154CM, ATS-34 or S30V.
Yes, from what I understand 440C is definitely better than 4034.
***** 4034 is 420J2 steel, it's too soft.
What about nitrogen steel? it has the same properties of carbon steel, but it doesn't rust.
coooool knife! love the color and tango like blade!
Interesting. The handle/blade geometry reminds me of The Tumbler from Batman Begins. (which is an odd juxtaposition)
Doesn't the Kershaw OD-2 have a similar hiding flipper?
I have a Smith & Wesson M&P assisted opening knife that is similar to this schrade in a few ways.
I've had this vid in my watch later for many years
This was one of the first EDC knives I ever purchased, (the grey one, not like in the video) and my initial impressions of it were not good. At the time, though, it did its job well, and I can't complain much as far as aesthetics, though it did get a little uncomfortable to hold. My problem was about three or four months after getting it for an outrageous price (third party), it broke down on multiple levels. The thumb stud came off, the bolts that ran through both the pocket clip and the body of the knife came out entirely, and it developed blade play as a result. This was mainly because I beat the absolute s*** out of it, and I was generally not wise in how I handled it. I've been considering getting a replacement and seeing how it holds up.
EDIT: This model in the video is the Schrade M.A.G.I.C, and can be found on Amazon in different finishes for between about $30-$60 USD.
I hate you :-) because you made me buy one with this nice review !
it's the SCHA3CBS , the same but wit a serrated blade on the first inch.
I really like the cameleon handle , its changes color depending of the light or orientation.
Very nice collection knive with a total futuristic look but usefull too
Links to purchase are both error can't find page now!🤔
I have a few smith and wessons M&P knives with a similar flipper.
Looks almost like something out of the 1980's science fiction! Love it!
Dam, i like that knife....wonder if its allowed in Australia?
How many shades of grey does other version have? 50?
can the blade Lock using the safety lock when it's extended
Danny Stubbs =yup.
I've had this knife for about 2 years now. I really like it. However, I took off thumb stud when mine cracked on me. I honestly think it has a cleaner look without it.
I am a scout from Australia I am aloud to carry a knife 2 and from would is be allowed
I personally think it looks really cool.
If u wanna see a extremely fast assisted knife review the Gerber bear grylls assisted opening knife
Did you get it online or in a knife shop
Well this is an older thread but maybe for some peeps my findings are interesting. I checked amazon and ebay. The traders in europe charge 55-65 Euro for this model- that's without shipping fee which comes on top. It looks like it fell out of mass effect. Quite a collectible piece.
im looking to get a decent knife to carry around for around 50 bucks. what im looking for is for it to be of good quality, easy to open, and a bit of a novelty like the crkt snap lock knife you reviewed. im really interested in assisted open knives as well
The knife that he showed is around 40 bucks
+Nerdy red fox 398 well I ended up getting a benchmade barrage (large version) decided to wait longer to get something nicer. great knife!
I really like that knife.
It's called a Magic assist, I think.
Looks like my Shepherd on Mass Effect would use that knife totally looks like it belongs in that game :) its cool looking.
i love it the shapes an colors give me 80s vibes
Eddie Moyers you give me 80s vibes
