    Great video! What wasn't clear for me though was, why you would suggest getting a Sonos Arc instead of a Sonos Beam when your video is actually focusing on surround sound (virtual vs real) and both the Arc and the Beam DO offer that when connected with two One SL in the back.

    • @JonahMatthes
      @JonahMatthes  2 роки тому +1

      Great point! Yeah when I meant Sonos Beam I meant it by itself and by Arc, I meant the Arc, One SLs and Sub. But totally should’ve mentioned that you can connect One SLs to the Beam.

    Hey man, great video. I've been watching all of your videos lately they are all very informative. In a previous video you mentioned that you use an nVidia Shield TV to do a lot of your testing. Could you talk a little bit more about your nVidia Shield TV setup? I am trying to set up a really basic home theater setup with the JBL Bar 9.1 based on that same video, but my TV doesn't support Atmos natively. So I was thinking of getting the Shield to get access to Atmos. Do you connect your Shield directly to the soundbar, and then the soundbar to the TV? And if so does the JBL Bar 9.1 support that configuration?

    • @JonahMatthes
      @JonahMatthes  2 роки тому +1

      That's absolutely correct! Nvidia Shield TV connects to the Soundbar's HDMI input, then HDMI output from the soundbar to the TV. I have a plex media server where I put a lot of my test movies that have Dolby TrueHD audio, but also use Netflix, Hulu, etc. as well. The Nvidia Shield TV Pro is literally one of the best media streamers out there!

    • @playstationnextgenil491
      @playstationnextgenil491 10 місяців тому

      That has changed. The PS5 now supports Dolby Atmos for all titles supporting 3D Sound. Which is almost the entirety of its library. Also contrary to how the XBOX work it has no lag whatsoever. Mainly due to a seperate processing unit in charge of dealing with the sound.

    What happened to the HTIB systems including receiver/amplifier and speakers? Have any new ones been released in 2021? I've been using a Panasonic SC-HT56 5.1 system for the past 13 years in my 13x13ft listening room and have been very happy with it. Two surround speakers are on the ceiling on each side of my listening couch. The wires are all in place and am looking for something to replace it within a few years. The reason is NextGen TV which promises lossless Dolby/DTS transmission with goodies like Atmos thrown in. I will need a system that supports eARC to connect to the TV instead of the current optical connection. Do you think I will have to settle for a soundbar based system they way things are going? Is the Samsung Q850A that BestBuy sells might be a good fit for my needs if I felt like updating now?

    What about the Sony HT-9A when it’s finally released. I believe it’s great if you have a high end Sony TV as you can use that as the centre speaker (possibly the HT-A9 is only for those with Sony TVs?). I love the fact you can separate the front speakers like in a traditional Surround-sound system for better separation.

    Virtual surround is definitely a gimmick if the soundbar only has two driver cones. You'd be 💯 % much better off buying a similarly priced PC speaker set or powered HiFi bookshelf monitors (both options with Bluetooth and subwoofers of course) and connecting them directly to your TV's headphone/Line output, and then using the virtual surround sound features built-in to the TV. You'll save yourself spending money on features/services you already have (either in your TV or mobile phone) and you'll save yourself using up a precious HDMI input on your TV. Don't bother with connecting via optical as the virtual surround of the TV won't pass through, there is the usual issue of jitter and delay/lip-sync, and you won't be able to use your TV remote to control volume.
