I'm a third in and when you said, "I hope there's no more like this..." I laughed. I walked the CREB in the early 80s when the Cairns Regional Electricity board still maintained the lines that ran up there and as a clear example of how harsh it is, the Electricity Board had a WW1 tank about half a km past the Daintree crossing that they used to access it when it was wet. There were also very high catwalks going over a creek crossing and a couple of old fibro building campsites for when they had to stay in there.
I was also a passenger in a short wheelbase Landcruiser after some rain around the same time. We spent four hours at one of the last big hills trying to get up it, but ended up turning around and going the long way. I'm heading back up to walk it again in the next couple of years, but I'll pick a dry time. Those hills are just grease in the wet. Thanks, mate. Your video is bringing back some cool memories of my hippy days.
EDIT: Back in those days, there were stories of short wheel base 4WDs flipping over backwards when attempting the last big hill after slipping a little.
Cheers mate, thanks for sharing!
Love to hear ol stories like this particularly from the 80s, I'm obsessed with the 80's. Fibro was that another word for asbestos in the 80s, 🤔
@@bears2604 Yeah, mate. The huts were basically made of steel, concrete and fibro, the only stuff that could handle the wet and humidity. Fibro pamels were an asbestos mix.
In the early 80s I watch two LandCruisers come down your first hill using chains. They rolled from the top with the clutch engaged it in reverse gear. Every time the car started to slide sideways the let the clutch out and the car dragged itself straight again. Most amazing piece of driving I've seen.
Beautiful country but bloody tough going. A credit to you, Steve and MalaKAI for capturing the adventure on cameras. It was more enjoyable because you didn’t cover up the sounds of your cars with senseless music and allowed the engine noises to bring out the suspense of the muddy hill climbs. Cheers guys. 👍🏻🙏🏽😷🦘
Thanks mate, appreciate it!
Next time I’m packing my footy boots! 😂
Cheers for an awesome day mate! Can’t wait to see the rest of the series 👍
@@chriscoyne4827 haha cheers mate!
Footy boots would do the trick!
Great video. Man, your 4wd skills, video skills, sound quality, the whole package really is improving exponentially not to mention the fantastic aerial drone work. Your content is as good as any 4wd channel at this stage and I reckon it will surpass most in not too short a time. Thanks for all the hard work. We appreciate it.
Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback!
I love the combined look of excitement and terror on your face when hammering up that track. Absolute gold. Cant wait for the rest of this series!
Thanks mate! Was a fairly hectic track haha
Bloody awesome mate, had a smile on my face for the whole video. I think because I could see how much you were enjoying it. You must be so happy with the truck, looks so solid. Can't wait for the rest of the series, great job.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
the real locals carry mud chains for both front and rear tyres, with these you are able to drive the track no matter how wet it gets. Swimming hole at the end was the beach area on the Roaring Meg. Average rainfall here on the CREB is 3.5-4 meters/ year
Yeah except for big red thats a scary one even with the chains my pop louie on top of gold hill in the 80s used to have to be in reverse going down big red some wetseasons just so you werent sliding to fast 🤣
X100%. Mud chains are the only way when the coefficient is so poor
Far out thats no joke hey. The guy in the cruiser is a legend. A few cases went his way im sure.
Done it twice in the rain. Got myself a Raptor twin locked with 35's and a good winch. Took me (by myself) about 7hrs to do. Absolute fun.
You can't beat wheel chains for traction in slippery conditions. Sixty odd years ago my father drove every where in the bush in a 1950s FC Holden panel van, at times with heavy wheel chains fitted to the rear wheels. He drove this vehicle up hill and down hill over unbroken ground that would scare most of today's 4x4 drivers. That Holden was driven to remote locations from FNQ to Victoria to SA on deer hunting trips. The worst thing to happen to the Holden was broken engine mounts which gave him a twenty six mile hike over steep terrain to a station telephone to arrange help. As a young boy I used to rest my feet on a piece of wood about six inches in diameter that had pierced and broken off in the vehicle's passenger seat floor. That wood was jamed so tight it stayed there until the Holden was retired. Cheers
the old army bar treads were much better than these road pattern you use
Wow!
Thank you (both) for your tenacity!
That is (most likely) the only way that people like me will ever see a track like that.
Thanks for sharing
Cheers
Thanks mate!
I've lately been devouring videos of stuff from up North. Every time I watch one it helps to motivate me to get things done so I can get back home. I've been in Brissie way too long now. I actually lived and worked at Bloomfield for a while.
If you do a lot of mud, a set of tyre chains makes a real difference. I remember as a kid traveling from Darwin to North Queensland in the back of the old man's fj45 trayback, 2500 k's no bitumen back then, wet season, huddling under a tarp with my brother and cousin. The old man had chains on and the only thing that stopped us was the mud building Up in the guards and stopping the tyres from turning. We'd dig it out with crowbars and shovels, the black soil was that sticky it looked like we had 16" wide tyres.
Great advice!,
That is a great idea 💡! Will 100% be using that in the future when you know you’re going to have lots of mud.
Yep its amazing what a set of chains can do in mud like that a lot will say they just destroy the track but they are the ppl that have never used them , chains will get you up the track first go without spinning wheels .
@@jackofjr they might destroy the track but you'll do a lot more damage without them
@@4weeksleave l don’t believe chains do destroy the track , I was saying that’s what others say / believe but they are the ones that probably have never used them
Up the mighty Nav. notice all the 79 fan boys are a tad quiet seeing it completely out perform the twin locked 79. great vid man!
😂😂 which bit?
Vehicle weight probably plays a big role here.
Haha, I know which sounded better!!
Better tyres on the Nav? The Cruiser's tyres looked a little worn, the tyres on the Nav looked nearly new. Of course most of the time all tyres were full of mud so it's a bit hard to be sure.
@@bingobango4892 did you not watch the entire video?
that last go-pro view stint up the hill was bloody awesome
We drove that track in 1991 in an old 2A land rover. No winching, just drove it. It was dry and nowhere near as rutted as this video shows, so much easier than now. Good video.
Honest and natural film and not one "yibbity yibida" comment like that other channel.
Once again another great vid. I was impressed with your wheel work, lock to lock. Gold medal to Tyler for mud surfing
That was hectic!! Great fun doing it in the dry…that looks next level insanity in the wet! 😲 I think seeing Bob’s Hill again has given my Mrs PTSD. Mud-skating looks like a new Olympic sport. Nice cameo from True North Adventures 👍
Awesome vid, that Cruiser sounds so sweet hauling up all those tracks. On audibleness it makes any red blooded fourbier want one for sure
I don't know what was more entertaining..... watching you drive it or watching you slide it lol.
😂😂
A big FULL SEND from Bakersfield California!!!
Great episode Tyler, this series is going to be outstanding. Awesome driving Buddy, top notch. Had my wife's eyebrows raised! Can't wait for more.
It was Such a different prospective to the usual, which made it more interesting than most others, nice job Tyler
Thanks mate
Should have pumped up the True North Adventure boys, bloody legends creating cool content
Cheers mate!!! 👍
Wow, what a mission, thats what its all about but ay! Good to see dude from TNA giving you a hand, 👍👍
🙌
As a local, snowchains and workboots.
I don't do the track without bulk recovery gear wet or dry.
Service the winch.
Spares for the winch, ie spare solenoid spare rope, even a spare motor if possible.
In the dry it's a half day run.
In the wet multiple days.
Take food and a swag if it's been drizzling to rain.
You should have dropped the tyre pressures and crawled it.....lol.
Great vid!
you do this to yourself because you love it. lucky you had the local to help.
i grew up in the Daintree area, on a farm, been up the CREB many times, 4x4 and dirtbikes, and i tell you something, never again will i but a 4x4 with a Manual, i'll go an auto box any day, the moden 6 speed sports shift auto, massive difference. when you need a gear, with no loss of momentum.
Hooley Dooley that's crazy mate! Love seeing you throw the Nav around like that.
Awesome video and can't wait to see the rest of this series!
We love your vids Tyler, your candour & honesty is a rare thing to see. A lot of people would want to paint a picture of everything going perfect, you & the young bloke give it to us warts & all. The quality of your content is super good. You can be proud of what you're giving us all. ✌
Thank you!
Awesome episode. Looks like great fun😁😁. I cringed when old mate you helped out ran over the winch rope.🥴
Love the mud surfing on the creb track
About time a video that actually shows the grade of hill your talking about. Great video pal 🤙
Cheers!
Drop the tyre pressures and crawl it. Ha ha.
😂
That was a ripper episode!!! The Nav is working bloody well:D Good to see one of the fellas from Far North Adv as well. Thanks heaps for all the hard work Tyler.
Thanks mate!
I did the creb track on trail bikes 15 years ago. It was wet and it took us more than ten hours to get through . We couldn't even stand up on some of the hills it was that slippery.
Crazy trip
Such a good series to come. Combined with the fact you have no camera car flowing you like some. . . . . Cant wait
Thanks mate
So good I watched it twice. Nice pics by the young fella too mate
your exploration and video quality is superb now mate, bloody hell
MAAAAATE so appreciate your massive effort to show us that track. holy heck we were riveted and cheering when ya made it to the top. love ya work . Cheers from 2 west aussies in Saudi
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bloody awesome Ep Tyler, great skill and editing mate, well done. Such an awesome experience for Kai, geez he has grown up and looks like he is loving time with Dad. Great helper with all your footage. The cruiser sounds awesome in the forest. Good decision to go fulltime with UA-cam mate. Look forward to the rest of the series, cheers
Thanks mate, appreciate it!
My favourite episode of your videos yet! Felt all your fear and excitement the whole way, that was awesome mate. Fantastic camerawork too, some of those aerial shots are incredible, particularly when you made it right to the top of the monster hill. Keen for the rest of the series.
Glad you enjoyed it mate!
Remind me to never, ever ,ever do the Creb track in and after rain 😳😳🤣👍
Wow what a track top notch video mate. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Full on driving right there. Could play a drinking game with that one, take a sip every turn of the steering wheel.
Dude sick edit at the start. Loving the content, keep it up man the channel will blow up in no time.
Thanks mate!
Being rainforest (grew up and lived all my life here)can rain anytime in the year....then comes the wet season
Absolutely brilliant man! Can’t wait to see it for myself! Your work is top notch mate, can’t wait for the next episode
Thanks mate!
Some day I will be as experiencedas you Tyler.... bloody ripper being with you on your entire youtube journey mate.. you are teaching alot of us things to do mate legend
So good! I have done the CREB in the dry, can’t believe you managed it in the wet! Awesome episode.
Fast becoming the best channel on YT. Epic video mate. You can see how hard you work in getting great shots and editing is mint. Can’t wait for the next part 🍻
Been so keen for this series...sorted the kids out cracked a beer and ready to watch doesn't get much better
That last stint on the hill, awesome part of the video. Shout out to Stevie from True North Adv too.
Cheers mate!! Yeh that last climb was insane!!!!!!
Great. Watching now. Will be totally wrecked after Cyclone Jasper. Good show. 👍
Awesome Tyler and Kai!
Great driving! You're a legend taking your son on such a great adventure. The Creb track is definitely on my bucket list, on the other hand it scares me to death. My blood got pumping just watching your amazing video!
Thanks for sharing it
cheers mate!
Epic adventure, well done! Hope to do it myself one day...
Looks like a tonne of fun mate love the smile on the young blokes face coming up those mud hills
I drove it a few months ago in the dry and was in 2wd the whole time, crazy how it changes so dramatically
Looks like you should’ve taken snow chains
A wise man never air’s down until he needs to.
episode 1 CREB track was wild n woolly Tyler n Malakais photography👍👍, also Steve n the final destination was stunning. really is awesome seeing Malakai sharing these adventures with u Tyler, he will look bak on these vids in years to come with fondness. people buying 4wds with no experience going into places like this n their ill equipped as well, head shaking. then other people have to help them n risk their safety n vehicle. doctor youtube, the advice from experts free n useless. bring on ep2.
Thanks mate, appreciate it!
the creb in the dry is a glorified dirt road,, WHOLE different ball game in the wet ;) i did it towing a camper and it pissed down as we did that first hill, was heaps of fun only just made it up big red,, 3 fully kitted patrols/cruisers in a convoy mustve started it the same morning and they ended up stuck and had to walk away and leave their vehicles there for 3-4days untill it was dry enough to recover them
That was insane, roller coaster
I only have one word - wow!
What a beautiful getaway and a tough one at that! SO nice to see you and your son having a great time..
chains are the go for there in the wet and if you only have one set then put them on the front so they pull you up, if they are on the rear it will push you across the treck and you may roll the vehicle. Have seen it a few times up there
Mate good effort, can’t wait to see the next video.
Thanks for doing that track , I’ve decided I don’t need to now… great effort
Thanks for the video. I am not sure when the track was constructed however as a boy, either in the late sixties or early seventies I remember experiencing the big hill. The circumstances were a grader operators who had worked on the track, drove my father and I over the CREB. It was better maintained at the time. I remember the experience vividly as as I holding on in the back of a canvas covered short wheel base land rover.
I am simply envious!
Wow! That's insane (in a good way). Watched it with the kids and Belinda. They got a kick out of watching Kai and now want to know when we're going to give it a go 😂. Belinda was like... nup! Funny thing is our ute was built for a Cape York trip. Just need to build up skills and confidence to match the vehicle 😆
Thanks mate, glad you guys enjoyed it!
very cool adventure in a very beautiful rainforest landscape :-)
Awesome track! That will be no joke for sure in the wet!!!!!
Great video mate.
More wheel work than a P-plater on a rainy night hahaha. Love it.
That Nav of yours is a beast mate, sick video. Always makes my Sunday watching them. Keep doing what you're doing legend 🤙🤙
Thanks mate!
Another great video Tyler that looked awsome also scary
First trip north and you have picked some of the hardest tracks in the world.
11:00 you need like studded snow tires to drive on that! and maybe a toboggan to get back down!
Something to be said from a light weight set up. Nav made easy work of that last bit where the cruiser struggled. Great video Tyler ✌🏼
Thanks mate!
Really enjoyed yr video, every moment, thxs to everyone
Thanks mate!
I've only done the Creb in the dry and it was an absolute doddle. Doesn't take much to turn it into that mess! Glad you got through ok.
A week ago I started watching your channel and I’m thoroughly enjoying it bro 🤟🏻
This episode is mad … well played good sir 👍🏻
Glad you enjoy it!
Tyler I take my hat off to you mate.I just was going… OMG!! Or words to that effect. One slippery piece of track. I went to Cooktown last year, but I drove the bitumen track to get there Cheers 🍻🐨🦘
Thanks mate!
Amazing to watch mate 👍
Winch......check, satellite phone.....check, spiky garden aerator slip on shoes...nooooooo!
This track is like glass when dry.. serious
Nicely filmed and edited.
Great video! We got caught in there with 15 cars about 6 weeks ago. Had to turn around at big red started pouring down rain, doesn’t look like it’s dried out much though even though it’s supposed to be the dry season
Hi Tyler, thanks for the video. Really enjoyed watching it, I would think that you all had a great nights sleep after working so hard getting through the creb track. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers
Thanks mate!
Good effort on bobs Hill mate! Some mates and I went down it on the trail bikes, I was pretty much sitting on the rear guard the hole way down 🤣
Bloody steep hill haha
That track is so different wet to dry. We did it September 18 and was easy as because it was dry. You can see the shit fight when wet. Well done getting through.
Cheers mate!
Magic vid 👌🏻
Well done and looked like so much fun.
if you did drop the tire pressure to 10psi you would have remover the tires from the rims with all the steering movements you had to do.10 psi works good on sand but definitely not on rutted muddy tracks. been there done that and had to wait and camp. we where stuck for four days before we got out. even the ranger got stuck bring back the tires and rims i could not get back on. when stuck even the flat area that we camped in was really slick and slippery, was an adventure just to get to the toilet and shower block and by the time you got back to camp site you had mud half way up to knees. but had a great time anyway.
Top video mate and awesome photos from the young fella. Looking forward to the next one.
31:20 The scary thing is, if someone got stuck, or worse, broke down and were at the bottom at a creek, when it rains upstream, mountains of water can end up roaring down into those low spots. They rise and fall very fast and could easily drag a vehicle downstream.
