  • oztooltalk check out the latest in cordless grinder technology from AEG Power Tools.
    The all new FUSION line brings us a 125mm / 5" grinder, with the easy-to-remember model number: BEWS18125BLP :/ It boasts a no-load speed of 11,000 RPM, a good 2,000 above it's rivals!
    AEG have also released a 235mm / 9-1/4" twin battery grinder, the BEWS18BLX230. It has a no-load speed of 5,500 .
    oztooltalk test these tools in real-world concrete and steel applications to see if they are ready for your job site. Both are tested using AEG's 9Ah Force HD batteries most of the time.

    Still have the 9" one here in NZ... (I don't have one) but a contractor came into work the other day and used one... (and I seen it at Bunnings)

    9 inch is very good for manual steel cutting because of the size of the blade, which allows you to work much longer before changing disc. This goes especially for pipes, tube, angles etc.

      yeah it makes sense. If i was doing a lot of steel cutting, i'd prefer a bandsaw though where possible.

    Got the 5 inch it's great, need to use the force batteries the older style batteries seem to cut out under load a lot

    Does anyone know the *side handle thread width* for the AEG grinder please? Ive bought this same used one and dont have a micrometer to measure it accurately. Thank you.

    That'd have to be the highest rpm cordless grinder, the only problem would be running speed I guess. I got asked that question last week and I said the cordless run slower and I don't know what sorts of run times you'd expect to get so it'd be good for small grinding jobs and cutting but this could be interesting to see what the run time is on different batteries.

    Now you have the 5 inch fusion AEG you should redo the test with the top 2 from the older 5 inch test. I have had mine for about 5 months and it is a heaps better tool than the Dewalt and Milwaukee. It is almost the same as a corded grinder.

    • @OZToolTalk

      Comparisons (especially grinders) are a LOT of work. We don't just redo them willy nilly ;)

      @@OZToolTalk , I understand that and appreciate the effort you put in when you Guys did the first test. That's why I said compare it with the top two winners from the first test. But if you still have the jig you made (which was genius by the way) maybe just test the new AEG fusion and compare the results with the other test. You have the older footage so you could make a pretty good video out of it. Just a suggestion.

    Another great review guys, haven't tried AEG tool yet, seem like they are playing power and high speed game as another American brand(probably reason aeg and milwaukee are owned by the same company ). Just wondering about tool durability, any feedback for that?? Aeg price looks good and also come with longer warranty

      Don't know too much about durability yet. But it's certainly priced and warranted up there with the best trade tools ....

    How does the 5 inch compare to the DeWALT brushless grinder?

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  5 років тому +2

      [Dwain] haven't compared directly, but I'd think it has more pure grunt than any other 18v grinder.

    The 5 smashed the 9 on the square steel.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  5 років тому

      I noticed that too. It's mainly because of disc thickness of course, 1mm vs 2.5mm.

    I didnt know they banned 9's on some work sites I love my 9's thats seems odd to me but I'm all farm use so I guess different animal.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  5 років тому +1

      yeah totally different. but there is a proportionally higher accident rate with 9" discs.

    • @zagan1
      @zagan1 5 років тому

      It's not banned as such, some safety people won't allow them.

      If people knew how to use a grinder and not bend the disk, they wouldn’t shatter and they wouldn’t need to ban them.

    It's always neat seeing how tools and applications vary in other parts of the world. I have the Ridgid Octane which is just like the Fusion 5" but only uses 4.5" discs and drops 400 RPM to 10,600. I actually got one for testing before release and it's a vary impressive unit. At $119 USD tool only it's probably the best power per dollar in North America. I wrote a vary in depth review on it for ToolCraze and have short video on it as well. I'm new to the review business so please give it a read and let me know how I can improve my writing and testing. toolcraze.net/ridgid-r86042-18v-octane-brushless-4-1-2-angle-grinder-in-depth-review-page-1/ .
    We also have the equivalent Ridgid model to the 9" but ours gets a promotion in speed to 6,700 rpm but gets demoted in disc size to a 7" wheel. I plan to pick one up soon for use in the shop and may also do a review on it as well. As always, excellent job on the testing and review!

    That big Cut Off saw/9inch grinder is a total waste of money. I bought this in April and after 3-4 jobs we just stopped using it. Sitting in a corner not being utilised at all.
    For concrete cutting they are absolutely useless. 4 cuts the top on a full battery. We lost a lot of time on charging batteries n stuff. We now use electric grinder/Cut off saw again. So if you are using that for Concreting purposes, please don’t waste your money. 🤙

    Use 9" grinders most days, sounds like some trade education is needed over there - why ban the use of when you could just train properly?

    • @OZToolTalk

      more accidents = more regulation i guess.
