    UFO Enemy Unknown ....
    A Classic.
    A real Treasure.
    One of the best Games ever played ^^
    When i first time played it i was addicted to the game, playing hours and hours deeply into the night just to wonder why the room gets so bright and notice the sun already was coming up ^^
    Yeah... it's a great Game, even now.

    I’ve never got big in to turn based squad tactics games. I’ve played a bit of several games here, who hasn't, but mostly just watched mates playing them.

    I remember having a demo cd with terror from the deep and ufo defense on it (among others). Played the UFO Defense demo so many times, killing the same snakemen and chryssalids in the same map over and over; playing like I was barricading in each house or store as I moved on. So much fun. Needless to say when I could finally buy the real thing I was all in. I think the only real 'flaw' I felt was the absolute ease at getting the big launcher and heavy plasma so quickly it trivialized the need for any in-between weapons, but I often made squads of lesser weapons just for fun.
    Terror was fun, too, but never hit that same place for me. The water maps were a cool idea, but felt more bland. Even the busier above ground maps just didn't feel the same as the terror missions and the like from UFO. And I think like many I hated the shipping lane missions lol. Even so, it was more of the same, so I played it a lot, too - just not *as* much.

    I'm so glad the Breach, Rules of Engagement, and Universe game are now available digitally. I never actually played Breach 1 until the re-release but I played Breach 2, Universe 3,and the Rules of Engagement games as a kid.
    I like Terror From The Deep but I prefer Jagged Alliance 1. I think the main reason most of the weapons and gear we had in X-Com UFO Defense weren't in Terror From the Deep was they didn't work, or didn't work well underwater, Deadly Games was my introduction to the Jagged Alliance series but I prefer the games with a strategic layer to it so I prefer the first game.

    I missed 1994's Sabre Team which was enjoyable for being very tactical, and kind of based on a realistic real world tactical squad.

    Also my favourite genre. I used to spend HOURS scanning lines of hex in the UFO games, looking for patterns in the numbers to edit for modding (not that it was known as that at the time ;P), experiments with the stats of aliens etc. Laser Squad on the ZX Spectrum was my intro to them.
    Yes, the "real time" feature of Apocalypse was a brave move but the series had a fairly entrenched fan base by then so most still went for the more familiar turn-based. Plus it was WAY too easy to miss a "Headhumper" behind a wall graphic!
    Off topic- Windows based UFO games:
    The ALTAR Interactive UFO series was fun (especially having a Granny in your team ;)), UFO: Extraterrestrials was awesome, Xenonauts 1&2 I very much enjoyed too, created by some serious Gallop fans and of course Phoenix Point, which I haven't played yet despite being a backer :P Not because it's crap or anything, just never gotten around to it :P
    I felt X-com 2, although a fun game (apart from the last DLC which changed the game TOO much), "strayed from the path" set down by our Lord and Master, The Gallop. BUT it is still very much worth playing (again, apart from the pathetic add-on Alien Hunters (between 15-40% reviews on Steam for goodness sake!!)).
    In the mean time, I seem to have aquired the ENTIRE X-Com 2 DLC....not sure how that happened but I STRONGLY suspect I'm going to be playing it again soon...thanks for that, if you hadn't done this video...I might never have seen that...in fact...I might just do ALL of them all over again ;D That's the next few months sorted ;D... life CAN be good to you. Once I get "paid" (benefits) I suspect you've got another Patreon (the Giga Chad level is EXTREMELY optimistic....but you never know ;D).

      @OldAndNewVideoGames  5 місяців тому

      If you enjoy the modern iterations, then I recommend "Long War" and "LongWar Rebalance" for the first "new" XCOM, and "Long War of the Chosen" for the second. They make the game better. The first one especially, it's like a total conversion taken to the tenth.
      Xenonauts I still have to get around to. Though I have it and am hoping to find time at some point. And Phoenix Point, even though I have it with all addons, I kinda bounced off of, something didn't suit with me with all the sea creatures. But that was few years back, and I should really give it another chance.

      @@unacceptablefailurerate6453 Oh, it's so good! The only real difference though is that there's no game master. I mean, there is one, but it's neither of the players. It's the computer. WHAT???? No Steel Panthers? By Strategic Simulations in 1995???? Steel Panthers drilled down WWII battles down to squad and individual vehicles tactics. You could fight Battalion to company-sized engagements for every major country of the second world war. Individual battle scenarios as well as multiple different campaigns.

    • @Tony_Cardoza
      @Tony_Cardoza 5 місяців тому +1

      It's a totally different type of experience. The first game is fine, but imo, part 2 is the way to go. It's a true masterpiece of a game and it's definitely in my top 10 possibly top 5 favorite games of all time. It holds up for sure. It's much more in depth and tactical than jagged alliance 1, which is a good game in its own right, however you could go straight to part 2 and not miss anything story or gameplay wise, since they changed up the gameplay so much. If you get JA2 on steam, there is an easy fix that I had to do in order to get the speed right. It was too slow at first but someone on steam posted about a single change you can edit in to the files in order to make it run perfectly on modern PCs. Then there's the excellent 1.16 update. It's not necessary to have a great time with the game, but I'd still recommend it since it adds so much and it's such an excellent addition to the vanilla experience. In fact, I'd just add 1.16 even for a first playthrough. It's that good.
      What a game though! If you're at all into squad based tactical games with rpg elements, you're going to adore jagged alliance 2. I can guarantee it.
      And don't be frightened off by the speed fix. You might not even need to do it, as not everyone has the problem I think. But even if you do, it's literally a single, easy file edit that completely fixes the speed. It made my game go from slow and annoying, nearly unplayable, to swift and perfect in every way. Exactly how an older game should run on modern hardware.

      @Tony_Cardoza answered your question perfectly. Both are great, both are different too. But JA2 is definitely the better one.
