20:58 It’s December 10, 1994 We’re at Texas Stadium in Irving, TX. The two-time defending Super Bowl champion 11-2 Dallas Cowboys are trailing the 9-4 Cleveland Browns by 5 with 10 seconds remaining in the game. So how did we get here? Let’s rewind
I was at this game. I was neither a fan of the cowboys or browns, but my friends were all cowboy fans. It was awkward sitting amongst them as their team was unmercifully taken apart by Cleveland.
Well as bad as the Cowboys played in this game(and they whup the Browns at least 8 out of 10 if they lined up that many times) they came within an inch of still pulling this one out.
I remember this game. A Saturday if I recall. The Browns played great that day. That's the last season they were truly dominate. I always loved seeing games broadcast from Texas Stadium. Dallas always wore white at home (and still does). The visiting teams colors always looked so vibrant and bright, much more vivid than at any other stadium, maybe it was because of the partial cover/roof. Texas Stadium always had the visiting teams colors and name on the goal post pad in the left end zone. I always thought that was a nice touch. I also remember the very wide white sideline stripe that Texas Stadium had; at least three times wider than any other stadium. Great memories from a Browns fan. BTW, in response to all the players with the huge pads......they had to have those huge pads. That old Astroturf was literally like playing on concrete. Finally, on the extra point after the Cowboys first TD early on, does anybody else think the goalpost looks a bit crooked?
That moment where you realize that Bill Belichick has Cleveland last playoff win, and every thing that skip has said about bills tenure in Cleveland is over exaggerated and meant to prop up Tom Brady
I listen to Leroy Hoard do a local radio show from Miami every day. I've grown to love listening to the guy. He knows his shit, doesn't take himself too seriously, and is absolute hilarious. That Browns defense in '94 was probably the best they ever had, not to mention a great special teams unit of Stover, Tupa, and Metcalf. They could've been Super Bowl contenders if their offense could score 25 points per game.
Great point. A lot of comments about Aikman throwing near-picks but I figure that this game might have been the first time he ever played against a pattern-match coverage scheme and he was probably confused as to what the hell the defense was doing
Wow, whatta game. It even has a Patriots type of ending LMFAO My notes from this game:1. Browns shoulda had like 7 interceptions. 2. I wouldn't rush to judge him on this game....his first time facing Belichick & Saban's pattern-matching coverage scheme that is a staple in modern college and pro defenses now, but in 1994 it was something that Aikman had likely never seen except watching film and they probably couldn't get it figured out in the one week they had to watch Browns film and come up with a game plan
Belichick had that team playing so well that sob browns owner revealed team was moving during the season. Never happened i believe announcing on season that you are going to move. The browns owner sabotaged the season. A lot harder to move a team that just won a super bowl or came close. All about money. Belichick and the coaches and players got screwed. Belichick best coach ever. Best coaching job was his victory over the rams the second time they played in the super bowl. Held them to 3 points! In the playoffs safest bet is bet on team with better defense.
There's a lot of interesting things about this game...the obvious one being Bill Bellichik coaching a Browns team that ended up 10-4 (14 game season) and went to the Divisional round of the playoffs, after winning in the Wild Card round.....but another things that struck me as I watched this was how horrible Troy Aikman looked pretty much from the start, he threw 2 picks but I counted about 7 that were wither dropped by the defender or just badly placed balls....also, Charles Haley had a monster game defensively for the Cowboys, a nice little sack and a whole bunch of tackles as well as that forced fumble at the goal line on Leroy Hoard (who was a stud at Michigan in the late 80s)....and the last thing is Matt Stover, who went 4-4 in this game in his 4th year in the league, and then went on to play for 15 more years
The opening to this game was pretty in depth. Talked about how the Packers, Steelers and 49ers dominated past decades of the Super Bowl era but none won it 3 straight years. Dallas was a 2 time defending champ this season and ended up winning 3 in 4 years, something the Patriots have also done.
It’s crazy to think how many great coaches came out of the Bill Parcells system. Belichick, Saban and Carroll all coached under him. Not to mention other guys who became NFL head coaches and coordinators.
Modell. He once made the statement, "I've been doing this a long time. I must have learned something." To which every Browns fan replied, "No, you haven't."
Every QB has a bad game and Belichick & Saban were running a coverage scheme ("pattern-matching") that was totally new at the time and this was surely his first time facing that style of defense.

In the playoffs safest bet is bet on team with better defense.
What a game.
There's a lot of interesting things about this game...the obvious one being Bill Bellichik coaching a Browns team that ended up 10-4 (14 game season) and went to the Divisional round of the playoffs, after winning in the Wild Card round.....but another things that struck me as I watched this was how horrible Troy Aikman looked pretty much from the start, he threw 2 picks but I counted about 7 that were wither dropped by the defender or just badly placed balls....also, Charles Haley had a monster game defensively for the Cowboys, a nice little sack and a whole bunch of tackles as well as that forced fumble at the goal line on Leroy Hoard (who was a stud at Michigan in the late 80s)....and the last thing is Matt Stover, who went 4-4 in this game in his 4th year in the league, and then went on to play for 15 more years
To be fair ,
im not an Aikman fan at all
but that Browns defense was known to make any QB look bad.
Man Antonio Langham should have had 3 INTs easy in this game….
Oh yeah, he looked like a really strong boy out there. Isn't that how you like your boyz? To be tight and strong?
Pretty sure the NFL had Aikman throw this game. He just looks like he don’t care about winning
We were at that game. How time flies!
Thanks for helping me snap off a late night loaf with this video 👌🚽🍻
.1:44 Charles Haley in a nutshell
Crazy lmao
The 5 time super bowl winner
The opening to this game was pretty in depth. Talked about how the Packers, Steelers and 49ers dominated past decades of the Super Bowl era but none won it 3 straight years.
Dallas was a 2 time defending champ this season and ended up winning 3 in 4 years, something the Patriots have also done.
Nick Saban with those glasses holy shit lol.
It’s crazy to think how many great coaches came out of the Bill Parcells system. Belichick, Saban and Carroll all coached under him. Not to mention other guys who became NFL head coaches and coordinators.
Back when the browns weren’t the laughing stock of the nfl (it begin in 1999)
Yeah but at least they have a good record now
The Jets own that spot now.
@@Kingofwhopper they won more games in one year than Hue Jackson in 3 years
These are my 2 favorite teams of all time My Browns and my Cowboys
Belichick vs Switzer worse coaching mismatch in sports history 🤭
On a Jimmy Johnson coached team this is a 20 point Cowboy victory
Man Cleveland players dropped so many balls. I'd like to see the replay on that last play. Looks like he might have crossed the goal line.
1:42 great hustle play by Charles Haley.
Heads were getting cracked in this game.
The 2020 game played out kinda similar to this.
Modell. He once made the statement, "I've been doing this a long time. I must have learned something." To which every Browns fan replied, "No, you haven't."
Leroy Hoard was a very underrated player
Other than the '98 Wild Card game against Arizona, this may have been the most shocked I've been at a Cowboys loss
Emmitt Smith would’ve been a HOF’er with any offensive line.
After watching this I’m amazed Troy Aikman made it into the hall of fame
Every QB has a bad game and Belichick & Saban were running a coverage scheme ("pattern-matching") that was totally new at the time and this was surely his first time facing that style of defense.
