Houses from the time frame you have there quite often had a central fireplace in the middle of the house. The main area was open all around it. What if instead of the fireplace, you add built in storage that is floor to ceiling there. On the kitchen side it becomes the built in pantry and the other side is for the game storage and stuff. Maybe just 6' wide or so. The area around it would be totally open. It would eliminate the need for the china hutches and give you the valuable storage space you need. Can you tell I used to flip houses? Flipping mid century houses are my favorite.
we just took down the tree and Christmas deco and the house now is so blah, I need to find some new decor for the winter to go with my blue glass. I usually use milk glass in the winter but I need a change. Our house was built in the 1950' and all the rooms except the kitchen (we remodeled) and the upstairs bedrooms. Any paneling we have also painted over. I also agree that the folks that have to be uot in this snowy/cold weather are awesome ( I don't like snow)

WOW Misty we had a silver pom pom tree just like yours when I was growing up! Tall (everything's tall when you're little) and 3 color spinning light wheel. It was my Mom's and my job to put up and take down. Putting those branches away row by row then into the box and down to the basement til the next year. I remember doing most of it but I loved doing it. Maybe as much as Mark loves snowblowing with his new electric snowblower!

Hi Dad ! Glad Mark got a snow blower. Great price too. We have 9" here in MO. Our friend recently became a mailman. Sun and Mon they were told to stay home. They drive up to mailboxes on the curb here. Tues the parking lot was not plowed. He was given a shovel to clear his truck from snow and ice. On the route, mailboxes and driveways were blocked from the snowplows. 😮 Take care.
I am in Okc. My house does not have a pantry either. I have 2 cats and they love to get in and eat my bread from the middle, so I have to keep it in the fridge or the freezer. The white cabinet will work out fine and you could always have Mark paint it. I have been stuck in the house for a few days to due to cold weather and now snow coming tomorrow. I love it. I am from California. Much rather have a little snow than all the fires out there. Have a great week.
This is contradictory to us vintage game hoarders but seems so smart - take them all out of boxes and use zip clear bags. Guess you could save the boxes themselves in the attic but this seems so clever space wise.

I think your tree is the prettiest I have seen. I absolutely love the the washer/dryer in the kitchen. Had it in kitchen growing up and also in my own home. Now it is outside and I hate it! In fact I don’t use it. I haul it all to daughter’s or Laundrymat to get done at once. Gave my Dad’s snow blower to co-worker. They are wonderful. Mark is a keeper. You are a perfect pair. You’ll love it when you switch out cabinets. I turned a bedroom into my pantry and big pots, love it. I have a really small kitchen. I love the paper weights in the front window. ❤ we live on the Ohio river and got 10 inches of snow plus ice. It’s been a nightmare! Kids probably won’t go back to school till next week. We was iced in the house. We just got someone to clear a path to get out today. Thank God for electricity. Ready to move to Florida.
Mo Mom had the washing machine in her kitchen and wanted It moved to the other side of the kitchen next to the dryer. It took two days for the construction crew to drill the cement foundation to move the washer water lines. The funny thing is the wall it went against was the garage, we should of put them in the garage and added a door from the kitchen into he garage! We hope to buy an old farm house to redo after both girls graduate high school! Steve does the same with the neighbors and will even salt the street in front of our house as we are on the corner and both street are a small up hill from us. Making sure no cars slide into our house.

I watched a video of a crafter who loves to color. She used Ohuhu alcohol markers. They were so smooth it looked like a printed picture when she was done! Just throwing that out there for you to look into.
I'm in the Northeast and we have had crazy wind all week. It is so annoying and at night kind of scary, sounds like a ghost howling.My pets hate it. Our doggo is 17 and he loves the snow, our cats just watch it from the window.
We got about 7 “ where I live on MD. It’s pretty to look at but a pita! I too took my decorations down on the Epiphany. It is sooo depressing isn’t it! I miss the lights and bright shiny things! We’ve gotten between this time and last week of 5 days we had additional 8” as of this morning so over a foot all together. So feel lucky. And it was my 67th birthday and driving was slick at times so, I couldn’t do anything but watch the snow!
Don't know if you were able to get to the post office but just a gentle reminder they are closed on January 9th for a federal day of mourning for President Carter burial/funeral. So no worries if you don't get your mail out!

I am a born and bred California girl. I married a Marine when i was 28 and when they get out they want to go back home. Home was Wyoming. The first real snow i was 9 months pregnant and bought myself a snow shovel. I was so excited lol. We lived in the country so no sidewalks to shovel. The following year I was pretty much over the snow. Six years there and i only had one white Christmas.
My mini doxi hates the snow we had to shovel a spot for her to pee her belly would drag on the snow. And Minnesota is no problem getting 6 plus inches over night.

Try being in East Texas, we get 1 in and a little ice, and everything shuts down here, and people are bat 💩 crazy and still drive like it's 90 out. The schools have already announced closure on the possibility of snow on 9th and 20th.

I have several coloring books and enjoy down time to relax and color. I use colored pencils. Mark is so sweet to take care of your neighbors

I use a double pie safe for an extra pantry. My husband replaced the thin shelves with 1 inch boards so it can hold heavy things without bowing.

I have trouble with those drinks. They say zero sugar which means they add artificial sweetener. They often add sucralose which I find intolerable.

You could just enclose the old dining room and have a huge laundry/pantry. That would give you tons of kitchen storage.

I dont have a pantry. The top of my frig is for cereal and the counter has a basket that always over flows with bread, chips, cookies etc lol.
