He was a person of a lot of joys in the world brought and thanks to many recordings still brings. He has touched many people with his(its) music and has connected - music goes about borders and spreads hope. I hear him over and over again with pleasure.

I didn't hear of Iz until BJ Penn used his songs as entrance music. It saddens me to think of a world full of wretched human beings and not too many like this man. Rarely do I hear music that makes me so peaceful and happy.

This singer seemed to be a great thinker. His message is rock solid. It is pure and loving. This doesn't mean that it won't be hard to live out. If one doesn't try to live it out, then this person is a charlitine.

There is just something about Hawaii that makes me cry... I love it there in Hawaii.. I love the people, the music, the spirit... I think I feel the hurt and pain of the Hawaii nation and people... They deserve to have their own nation the way it was before... I am so so so sorry there are so many white people and japanese and others on your land treating it as their own... I pray some day we can create a hawaii only nation for the people for the spirits... for you! Bless you all and thank you..

I first heard this song during a UFC event which Hawaii native son BJ Penn played for his entrance music for a match. This is a beautiful song. I don't even know what is being said in the song, but I've watched the entrance time and time again. It truly captures your spirit, whether you are from Hawaii or a countryboy from rural Pennsylvania.

@hankakah , I totally agree with you, Not sure if you will ever see this, but I love what IZ, and all of the native Hawaiians feel.
You are right, you should have the same rights.
If everybody is equal, that should mean that all Natives are equal.
Some one should start a petition, for Native Hawaiian rights.
I wish the world was the way it should be, and not the way the people with the power want it.
I think the whole world would be a better place.
And IZ knew how to Change the world!

Development that gave people jobs, if you don't think that old polynesian life wasn't without difficulty, you were extremely wrong. People were still born with diseases, illnesses, deformities, infact some cultures(Polynesian ones also) threw babies away or killed them, as to not spread the genes. Reality and life isn't fair for anybody at any time. Great song though

Ive been to hawaii and loved it. Such a beautiful place. The part that kills me is the hatred towards mainlanders from hawaiians. I had nothing to do with what happened in the past. Why the hate for people that wanna visit for beautiful state and help your economy with our tourism.

Brudda Iz was a very large man. This is how large.
His body was displayed by popular demand in the capital square. An honor bestowed on 3 people in the entire history of Hawaii. The other 2 were royalty.
10,000 people visited his casket in the central square for the one day display.
The next day when his ashes were scattered in the beautiful Hawaiian waters, crowds of thousands cheered loudly for over an hour. His birthday is treated as a holiday in HI.
This is the largeness of brudda Iz.

The British DID take claim control over Hawaii, and that is the origina of the phrase "Ua mau ke ea o ka aina" in this song.
When, after 4 months, Hawaiian sovereignty was restored, Kamehameha used this phrase in his speech. It means "The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness"
