Well said. I remember IZ coming to our small high school in the country in the puna district on the big island in the 90’s and sang some songs for us and spoke about his history and the Hawaiian culture. I will never forget it. Powerful voice gives me chills.
after lahaina and now oahu suffering, my heart feels so heavy with grief and anger, but there's a restlessness to this feeling. the kind that deeply is hopeful that everyone in hawai'i will gain their autonomy back, their culture, their land, and their voice. voices like iz's and others, no matter how tired and shaken, that can remind us of the best of people at the worst of time. no matter who you are -- much love to you all forever and always.
This is just so powerful song, written around 1976. 17 years goes by to find the right powerful voice to become a masterpiece. Thank you Buddah IZ to take this amazing song to the place it deserves.
It always makes me really emotional whenever I see anything with indigenous peoples and cultures surviving into the modern era. How they managed to survive despite deliberate attempts to destroy them.
Sem palavras , ele era de um ativismo político e liderança profunda de um rei . Dom da palavra e da música. Que falta que ele faz a música e cultura havaiana...
That baseline coming in though... I swear Hawaiians per-capita have to represent the most musicians of anyone in the world. Music just seems to come naturally to them.
So good. All I can think is how important of a voice he would of been in defending hawaii after the Maui fires. I hope his energy and soul to fight for Hawaiians is with the people. I hope they know there are so many of us that will never forget them. I want Justice for them as if it happen to me directly because we are all Americans and they are Americans and I stand with all Americans. America first is Hawaii first and Hawaii first is Maui first. Stand strong. Demand justice. Don’t be quite until leaders not only hear you but fear you. Take back your lands and vote out these Hawaii last people. No Justice no peace. I hope the Hawaiian people also see no left wingers went out and protested for them. They did not riot targets and burn down businesses for them. They have been forgotten just like the people of east Palestine were.
The words of this beautiful & haunting song take on more significance with the terrible destruction of LaHaina. “Our land is in great great danger now” “Cry for the land that was taken away”. We must hold accountable those that are responsible for this atrocity & stop the land grab that is going on now
Beautiful song, along with so many others this very talented young man gave us....a young man who died way too early. But I am curious....how did the people on "all these islands, others and mediums" feel after the King conquered them? Just a fair question, no reason to get hostile now.
@@kamaaina3236 Listen to the words in the song from minutes 3:05 to 3:20. Speaks of the King's conquering "all these islands, others and mediums" and how he would feel if he saw Hawaii in the present day. So I was curious on how the people that he conquered in the early 1800's might have felt about being conquered. Just an honest question and not meant to diminish in any way the wrongs that have been done to the Hawaiian people over the years. As far as your specific question goes, I also don't get exactly what "others and mediums" means, the audible is somewhat unclear on my computer. But it was clear in saying "all the fighting that the King has done, he conquered all these islands". So my question would better be addressed to that line only. Ultimately not all that important, the music and the loss of IZ are. Best wishes.

What do you mean "all these islands, others and mediums"?

The lyrics are "he conquered all these islands, now there's condominiums."
@@jonnie312ify Thank you for the correction. Closed captioning says "mediums". Now it makes perfect sense with condominiums.
